Chereads / Thorns & Roses / Chapter 2 - CHAPTER 2

Chapter 2 - CHAPTER 2

I just finished my last period - calculus - and was on my way to the parking lot.

As i was approaching my car, I noticed a figure on the hood of my baby.

"Are you seeing what I'm seeing Luca, there's someone on our car". I exclaimed.

Turns out it was a girl around my age. She had  brown eyes which accentuates her long, wavy, shiny, brown hair.  Although she was sitted, i could tell that her figure was to die for. "She comes off as a Victoria's Secret model".

"I've heard that one before". She said jumping off my hood. The sass, couldn't miss that.

"W-what?". I stutter surprised she heard me.

"Never mind that, so you're the new girl". She said eyeing me with curiosity.

"You could say that"

"Of course you are, I happened to be in some of your classes and also happened to notice you were wandering around alone, looking like a lost cause. So out of the goodness of my heart, I decided to help your case." She said, beaming with energy.

Pause.

The nerves of this girl. First she makes herself comfortable on the hood of my car, then she calls me a 'lost cause' and now she says she's going to help my case like nothing's wrong with that.  What am I? Fucking charity?

She's quite right. I didn't make any friends today making my day very stressful. I had to locate my classes alone and sit at lunch by myself. Not that I care.

"Ummm sorry but I don't think I need your 'help'. I said , placing emphasis on help.

"Here's the thing hun, there's no way you're gonna find your way around here, so you definitely do need my help"

"No I don't"

"Yes you do"

"No I don't". I say beginning to get irritated.

"Yes you do". She says gritting her teeth.

"I don't get why you're so hella bent on helping me". I said a bit too harsh

"And I don't get why you're being rude to me. Just offering some help." She said calmly,  clearly not affected by my change in attitude.

I kind of feel bad for the way I just spoke to her but I don't know if I can trust her.

She just pops out of nowhere and decides to offer me help which according to her I have to accept. Like who does that. I don't even know who she is, she might have an ulterior motive - maybe to make fun of the new girl with her friends.

"If you'll excuse me, I have somewhere to be". I try to open my door but she blocks my way."

"Stop being a bitch and get out of my way".

"And stop being an egostical stuck up snob and accept help from people who actually want to help you." She shouts back at me.

I was fazed by her reaction for a moment. I knew she was getting annoyed with me by the second but I didn't think she was going to get angry.

"Move" I said

And  to my surprise, she did. She stepped out of the way and I got into my car.

"Thank--" I was about to thank her for moving at least but she stopped me.

"Don't. Just keep in mind that by the time you realise you do need my help, I won't be accepting or forgiving your sorry ass that easily." And she walks away.

"Great". I say.

I got home but my parents weren't there and I wasn't surprised the least. They were lawyers so I hardly got to see them, they leave very early in the morning, return very late at night. Sometimes they don't even come home at all. They're always travelling for business meetings with clients or things of that sort.

"I really expected them to be home today. We just moved Luca." I say sadly.

Although I miss my parents a lot, I do understand that they do all they do for me and also themselves. I have everything I could ask for and I'm not complaining.

Ever since the incident, they started working over time. They barely make time for me and themselves.

I went up to my room and threw myself as well as my bag on the bed.

"Its been quite a long day today, so I deserve a nap". I said, yawning.

When I woke up, it was about 5pm, so I decided to start on my homework and get a little bit of studying done. After my homework and 40 minutes into my study session, my stomach started making noises. Thinking about it, I barely had anything today. So I went downstairs to start prepping dinner with the hopes my parents will come home.

"Oh my God, it smells sooo good Luca." I say as the smell of the Mac and cheese wafts through my nose. I've never really been one to cook for myself. For the past 2 years, I've grown accustomed to having takeout since mom hardly cooked for us after the incident. I only had homemade food when I was invited for dinner at my best friend's house.

After the incident, I began to consider her house as my second home and her family as my second family since my parents were always occupied with work and were never home. It was too lonely and the fact that everything about my former home reminded me of what I've lost and I had to face reality really hurt bad, so I started staying at my best friend's house frequently.

I slept there, ate there, cried there and did everything there. I basically moved in with them for the first 2 months after the incident.

Speaking of my best friend, I haven't heard from her in a very long time, which is actually my fault. After the 2 months I spent with her family, i started thinking I was a burden to her family because they were already struggling financially. I decided I needed to go back home.

Things went downhill for me. I struggled with school, I hardly ate or slept, i lost my friends,I didn't care about anyone or anything at the point because I felt hopeless and worthless. I needed a shoulder to cry on but didn't have one. My best friend, Sophie tried to reach out to me numerous times but I never bothered to respond because I felt like I didn't need to depend on Sophie at all times. I expected Adrian - my boyfriend - to be there for me but he never was. I basically cut everyone out of my life which was ironic because it was like my whole life was drained out of me.

That was how life turned out for me for a whole month after I left from Sophie's. Something a lot much worse and another life changing experience occurred after that.

The timer for the oven went off, interrupted my train of thoughts. I got up and removed the dish from the oven and moved to set the table. By the time I was done setting the table it was already 7pm and my parents weren't back home yet. Thinking they were probably on their way, I sat in the living room waiting for them  while watching some TV.

I woke up to the sound of keys falling to the ground.

"I'm sorry sweetie, I didn't mean to wake you up. Go to bed, alright?" Mom said

"No, it's okay. I must've fell asleep waiting for you to get home."

"I made dinner". I added

She looked over my shoulder to see that the table  was already set.

"Oh no, you didn't have to Jess" she said

"No biggie, now that you're home we can all eat together". I said smiling.

"You go ahead and eat. I'm sorry, I can't have food now. I only came back home to get some important documents. We're yet to wrap up work for the day. I hope you understand. Have some food, and go to bed. Okay?" She said, walking towards me she pulled me in for a hug.

"Okay mom." I said feeling deflated

"See you in the morning." With that she left, left me feeling lonely.

There was only one thing that could stop the loneliness from creeping into me. I put on my trainers, picked up my phone, airpods, and my house keys, and left, locking the door behind me.
