Chapter 3 - Painted Wolf ~Luna~

I could feel Demetri staring me down as i walked away so i kept my confidence aura at 100. I knew he could feel it, i mean he was a werewolf after all. Learning how to sense species is one of the first things my uncle taught me when i came into my magic. Simple enough, most supernatural beings left a certain mystical aura about themselves. Werewolves kept a green glow.

I turned down a hall covered in art pieces, "120, 122, 124." I counted the rooms softly to myself stepping into my first class. Some people were already taking their seats and chatting among themselves.

I slowly approached the teachers desk. there sat a plump young woman, no older than 25, with short blond hair and big octagon framed glasses sitting on her small round nose. "Excuse me," i started, the women looked up at me with bright emeralds for eyes, " hi I'm-"

But before i could finish a bright smile lit her face and she raised her hand to shake mine. " oh, yes i was informed of a new student," she began, "you must be Luna Vasquez."

I nodded slightly smiling. " and you must be Ms.Lucas," i said, taking her hand shaking it.

"Yes ma'am I am, welcome to New Orleans Heights." She said brightly. "Hey class, this is Luna, she's a transfer student. Be welcoming, or else." She said smiling malevolently, even i shivered. "Luna i think there's a seat by the window. It's all yours for the remainder of the semester." I nodded, heading for my seat.

Once i was situated the bell rang and class began. "Good morning crew," Ms. Lucas said grabbing the attention of everyone. "Welcome back to Painting Techniques 101, and Happy Halloween!" She said brightly. The class began to cheer and small conversations of parties broke out. "Mmhmm," Ms. Lucas hummed getting everyone's attention. "So today, in honor of you all not wanting to pay much attention to me, not that it's much different of any other day" she mumbled the second half, "i say we chill out with a free paint day." She said plopping back down in her desk chair crossing her arms. That earned her a cheer through the room.

I smiled pulling out my sketch book looking out the window. The leaves turning, blowing from the trees made me thank back to this morning in my bedroom. It felt like a dream seeing my mom again, feeling her gift of the element of wind, but i knew it wasn't. Not when i woke up for school and seen Tìo's hand wrapped in a bandage from his offering to bring her back. Even if it was only for an hour. Yeah today was Halloween, but today was my 18th birthday. The day i received my blessing. I wasn't about to make a big deal about the day. I just wanted to get through this blessing in one piece. I've seen brujas and brujos lose their minds and go on tyrannical rampages from the process of absorbing more power then they were suppose to. Most outta greed, but there are a variety of reasons why.

I began to paint swirls of purple watercolor  paint on to the page in front of me, no clear idea of what I'm doing. Just then out of my peripheral, i noticed something, no...someone. I turned my attention out the window. there out on the track, in a hoodie and sweats was Demetri, jogging alongside another guy about his build, but unlike Demetri's midnight black clean cut, the guy wore his sandy grown har longer but slicked back. Laughing, his smile made butterflies dance in my stomach. I smile almost instantly.

I tried to focus on my work but every so often i found myself glancing out the window watching Demetri round the track. Before i knew it the bell was ringing releasing us for the next class. I hadn't noticed much, not that Demetri's class had gone inside or what i had been painting the whole class.

I had a habit of doing that, painting or drawling without paying attention. They always came out great, but usually the drawings had something to do with the future. My Tìo, always said it was my suppressed gift of foresight. I looked down at my picture noticing what i had painted. A giant black wolf stalking through wind patterns of purple blue and black and greys. His eyes an ocean blue-green, like...

I shook my head trying to ignore the thought, but i couldn't. I smirked at the irony of painting a wolf while staring one down like he was a piece of meat the whole class. I wondered what his wolf form looked like. I smiled to myself, absent mindedly tearing the page from my journal signing the bottom.

"Dope wolf," i heard a voice say. I looked up to see a girl staring at my painting. Green aura, Damn another wolf. This school seemed to be full of them, even a few witches.

"Thanks," i said dropping my sketch book back into my bag zipping it. I stood painting in hand to turn in.

"My names Jessie, You into wolves?" She ask while fallowing me to ms.Lucas desk.

We dropped off our work, and ms.Lucas smiled at us bidding us a good rest of our day.

As we walked into the hall i noticed Demetri walking up the staircase. Our eyes locked, only for a moment, but when he smiled at my butterflies erupted in my stomach again.

Just then i heard the Jessie trying to get my attention "hello earth to Luna."

"Hmmm?" I hummed turning my attention away from Demetri and back to Jessie. "I'm sorry, can you say that again i was dazed out."

"I see that," she smirked watching Demetri walk by us smiling at me. "He's sure is something huh"

" who is." I said heading down the hall trying to stop smiling.

"Demetri Russo," she said wiggling her eye brows at me.

"I don't know what you talking about." I said brushing her off.

"Mhmmm," she said rolling her eyes. " so you never answered my question," she started again. I raised my brow looking at her. She snorted a giggle, then asked again "do you like wolves?"

"They're growing on me."
