Chapter 8 - Beloved

"Do you think she'll ever come back?"

"Perhaps. She might even bring me his head or a piece of his ear or something."

"Seriously? She wouldn't eat him….would she?"

"Kerina, when a half-breed is hungry then anything within arms length is considered food….even each other."

"I could never imagine. That's so awful."

"Kerina, as I recall…your species were no different. Did not you turn to canabilism because of lack of food? In fact, that is how you first started when you crossed over on your ships."

"You were there?"

"No, but my ancestors told me that you polluted our clean waters with the amount of dead rotten bodies that were thrown over throughtout the wars and other 'cargo' adventures. Don't even get me started on all the thrown out trash that just gets washed back to shore. I mean what did you expect? If you throw/dump something in the water; do you really expect it to drift away. Whether it drifts away or is crashed back homeward by the waves…at the end of the day it wil end up on somebody's shoreline one day. Lakes don't just go on forever and ever you know."

"Jade, I promise none of that will ever happen again."

"How can you be so sure?"

"I am so certain of that fact because now we have supermarkets and grocery stores that are always packed full of….um…Scarlett!!"

"What is it?"

"You got something on your ummm…"

"Ohh! That's where you are hiding little bugger. Guess I was saving that for later but now is a good time to. You know, the secret is to mix eyeballs with fresh blood and then just slurp it down like a gogurt as you watch it squirt everywhere. M…mhh.mmmmm!! Nothing tastes better than that. That's the best bet right there I am telling you. You gotta try it sometime."

"Mmhmm…Scarlett!!"

"What..oh, sorry, Kerina."

"No apology needed. You eat your way and we eat our ways. I'm sure you have never heard of the fork and spoon, but that's okay. I think I liked you better as a sweet innocent beautiful girl with your cute little foxxy ears and bushy tail."

" Haters can't be choosers."

" That's not….nevermind. Let's go."

"Grab onto me girls and close your eyes realll tight. Next stop…Ecrin."

"It's so beautiful!!"

"Austin, that's not even the best part. Watch this!"

"Flying water dolphins!!! They're so cute I just want to touch one. How do they fly?"

"Magic! This is one of the last few places where magic has gone unharmed and creatures of any kind can interact with each other in peace. You like it?"

"Like it? Josh, I love it. It's been so long since I was here, but the layout is coing back to me. How did you know to get here and about all of….this?"

"Don't be too surprised. Let's just say your father and my father were really close. He loves you and so does your mother. Don't forget that."

"I think you meant loved me."

"They don't love you anymore?"

"One one hand I had a mom who was always trying to keep me in line because, 'As a future queen of Ecrin it is your duty to know how to properly act. Stand up straight; don't slouch your back and always talk with confidence even if you personally have no idea how to handle a situation. A bold man talking to people and reassuring them is way better than a shy man who actually has a plan.'

She never let me do anything on my own. She was so protective that she even had guards stationed outside of the bathroom everytime I had to go in public. What, is she afraid I might get a swirly if left unattended? That's the only thing I can think of that could happen in a bathroom."

"Ha, a swirly!! You crack me up, princess."

"Josh, don't augh. I was being serious."

"Oh. Sorry, Austin. It's just that there are far more worse things that could happen in a bathroom besides a swirly."

"Is that so? Like what?"

"Umm. I don't think they are fit to be said to someone as young as you."

"Young? What, you're probably one maybe two years older than me at best."

"Yes, but a lot can happen in those two years and that's not what I meant."

"Then what did you mean?"

"When we say someones young; we are not talking about their age.We are referring to their mind and experience. We are poking at their level of maturity in a certain field or other."

"I'm mature."

"Hold the reins there, little pistol. Just because you were babied by your parents all your life and got perfect A's in school does not mean you're mature. All school teaches you is how to look at a book and memorize everything you read. Experience is what truly makes a man or a ladyman. Are you saying that you would rather be humiliated by thousands without protection instead of being overly protected by your parents?"

"Yes, Josh, that's what I'm saying. You could never understand. You were probably raised in a family where the worst thing you got was a paddle on your behind and nothing more. When you are born into royalty like me; every action of yours is scrutinized and judged harshly. If you step out of line even a little; you are heavily reprimanded for it. If you are still lost then just thinking of the life of a true pastor's kid and then times that by ten. I just want to be free for once in my life. We could sail away together where there would be no more rules….no more parents…no more bossiness…..and no more chains. That life is but a fantasy in every young princess' mind. I want my own destiny and not one already outlined in the stars of another or written in stone that cannot be etched away."

"Austin, I promise you that when we rule; we will be fair and not evil."

"You promise?"

"I promise!!"
