Jupiter's POV
"what happened?" I asked barging into the hospital ward.
"she's gone Ju, she's gone" Candice my little sister cried
"no she can't, she can't leave us, she can't" I rushed to my mothers lifeless body and shook her. "mum get up, get up, you promised me you wouldn't leave us, get up you promised, you promised!" I cried finding it hard to believe that my mother was no more "you promised"
"I'm very sorry for your loss girls" Luna Grace sympathized after we had buried our mother.
"thank you" we responded sincerely and she gave us both warm motherly hugs that my mum always gave us when we felt down.
"if you need anything, absolutely anything, you know where to find me" she said before leaving.
Candice and I stayed at the grave site longer thinking maybe if we did, we would return home and see her making us her famous blueberry pie but no, she really was gone.
"Jupiter and Candice you need to get a job if you want to be fed in this house" aunt Sarah spoke to me and my sister exactly 3 days after my mothers burial.
"what of the funds mum-" Candice started only to be cut off
"which mother, if I recall correctly, my sister neither had nor adopted any children, do you know of any Paul?" Sarah asked turning to uncle Paul who just shrugged "well then that's established, you both need to get jobs and start paying rent if you want to live in my house."
"your house" Candice growled
"yes my house sweetheart, I'm the legal owner of all my sisters assets as I'm the only blood relatively alive." she smirked
"yo-"
"it's not worth it Candy" I told my sister stopping her from causing any drama.
"now go on, go get jobs" Paul shooed
"there's no need, I'll work for both of us." I protested
"We don't care" Paul and Sarah said at the same time walking away.
"what do you mean by you'll work for us both" Candice looked at me
"exactly what it means, you've got to go to school, you can't do 2 things"
"but Ju that's a lot of pressure on you"
"I'm older and before mum died I promised her I would take care of you"
"but-"
"it's inevitable Candy don't argue" I shushed her.
"did mum really have to die" she sighed making me sigh too "all this wouldn't be happening if she just stuck around longer."
"it's not like she was happy to die and leave us in the hands of these 2 self-centered greedy people"
"I miss her Ju" she hugged me and I hugged her back
"I miss her a lot too"
After that day, I haunted for a job like a lioness haunting for food, until I finally found one as a maid at the pack house, its not what I would have gone for but Sarah and Paul had been starving us and seeing my little sister starve was not an option at all.
Working at the pack house wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, I usually cleaned the kitchen and did laundry sometimes even helped the cook, the cook was an amazing woman, so were most of my coworkers, but the best part of it all I'd that I had to work in the sane place with my best friend since we were in 3rd grade Marsha.
"I thought I'd definitely find you here" Marshals spoke after finding me in the library which was my favourite room in the entire pack house.
"hey Mars" I chuckled at my nickname for her.
"how did you even come up with that" she scrunched up her nose trying to act like she didn't like it as always.
"well cause my name is that of a planet and part of yours is that of a planet too" I shrugged putting down the book I was reading.
"oh my goodness, Shakespeare again" she frowned reading the title cover of the book
"if you must know, William Shakespeare is one of the greatest writers to have ever existed"
"and all he ever did was write tragic stories, who does that" she snarled
"William Shakespeare does" I chuckled
"gosh Ju you need yo read something apart from these sad tragic books"
"I do"
"OK then name 5"
"1. Lord of Scoundrels 2. Morning Glory 3. Shanna 4. Jane Eyre 5. Pride and Prejudice" I listed the novels for her "the list goes on and mind you, they are all romance/drama novels."
"you need to get a life outside these brown pages girl"
"nope no thank you, I'm waiting for my Knight and shining armor to come and rescue me from this tall tower I've been imprisoned in." I put my hands over my forehead and heart dramatically making Marsha laugh.
"and I suppose that is your mate"
"why yes my good sir" I curtsied playfully.
"you are such a character" we laughed.
"OK enough, goofing around, we need to dust this place clean" I told Marsha after collecting myself.
"sir yes sir" she saluted like a military soldier making us fall into another fit laughter again.
After our laughing session, Marsha and I cleaned every inch of the library and took our time to see some interesting books while at it, just like me Mars loved reading novels and just boils in general but she'd never admit that at least not to other people she wouldn't but like me she didn't have many friends as she's not the social type so we get along extremely well like to peas in a pot.
"So how was school?" I asked Candice as we sat eating dinner on the roof of the house.
"it was OK, nothing new really" she shrugged "you?"
"Mars and I cleaned the pack house library today, ooh and started reading Julius Cesar by-"
"Shakespeare one of the best writers of all times." she finished
"yep" I smiled
"how's Mars anyway, I haven't been seeing her much lately"
"she's OK, just trying to figure out ways of escaping the evil Queen of the west" I shrugged making her laugh. "what, her step mum is the evil Queen just like the wicked witch and her big bad wolf."
"will you ever stop referring to people as story characters?"
"nope"
"thought so" she laughed taking the last bite of her garlic bread and laying flat on her back so she was now looking at the sky. I finished up my own food and followed suit in Candice's actions.
"you know Candy, I can't wait for to find my mate" I told her as I gazed at the bright stars
"I bet he'll be kind and amazing just like you."
"I hope so, then he can take you and I away from this awful place."
"I can't wait, Sarah is getting on my nerves." she confessed.
"she always has" I joked making her laugh.
"tell me a story" she said as we pulled the blanket over ourselves and fluffed our pillows.
"once in a land far far away-"
"what is this, a Disney story" she huffed
"just shush" I shushed her and kept telling a story I was making up in my head with knowledge most books I had read.
"that's impossible" she gasped
"not in fiction it isn't, now quit disturbing me" I huffed
"OK OK, lie to me" she chuckled and all I did was roll my eyes in response before continuing my story until we both fell asleep.
