It had only been a week and I was already fed up with Stephano, he was like a combination of the previous 6 I'd failed, he was the worst.
"We've been going through this 5 times now!'' I exclaimed feeling agitated.
" I know" he shrugged turning to his phone.
"That's it, put your phone down" I told him.
''Or what, what will you do nerd" he taunted
"I'll- I'll" I stuttered not knowing what to say.
"Or I'll teach you a lesson." A voice came from behind. We both turned only to see the girl with purple and pink hair I met last week.
"Sure, nerd pro max" he laughed.
''I'm serious!"
"I know and I don't want to pay any attention to either of you."
"You will when I tell the school that the famous heart throb Stephano Innocenti is nothing but a pretender."
"And how exactly am I a pretender" he looked at the girl with amusement in his eyes.
"You aren't as dumb as you pose to be hell you aren't dumb at all'' She smirked.
"that's your word against mine" he glared
''Not when I've got proof." She took a crumpled paper out of her backpack.
"It's a crumpled paper" he rolled his eyes and I just sat there looking at them.
"With your correct physics answers on it.''
"let me see that'' I got the paper and straightened it
"A paper proves nothing.''
"Yeah but only you have this perfect cursive handwriting in the entire school."
"You've been wasting my time all this while!" I screamed at him
"Give me that" he grabbed the paper and threw it in his bag.
"There's more where that came from." She teased Stephano.
"What do you want" he gritted out.
"I want you to stop mistreating my best friend."
''I'm sorry best what now'' I looked her like she was confused.
"Best friend." She repeated "you treat her like a proper human being and we'll keep your secret."
"Whatever nerds." He rolled his eyes and left
"Thanks'' I told her
"No problem, I'm just tired of these brainless empty heads treating us like less all because we are more intelligent them"
"I know the feeling."
"I'm Leah, Leah Rodriguez.'' She offered a hand
"Caitriona Rosefield.'' I took her hand in mine and shook it.
"ah the intelligent girl.''
''You mean the nerd.'' I corrected
"nope'' she shook her head
''That's a first, almost everyone in this school calls me-"
"Einstein"
"Yeah"
''No worries, that used to be my nickname too." She brushed her hair back.
"I like your hair.''
"thanks" she smirked.
"So how did you know?"
"Know what?"
"That Stephano is intelligent."
"His in my physics class and I noticed he always throws away a piece of paper every after our quizzes or tests, at first I thought it was leakage but when I checked it wasn't and I've been wanting to use it against him for so long but I didn't have the chance."
"And today was your chance?"
"Yeah but also, I've seen the way he treats you, like it's not your fault you are intelligent and embrace it."
''Are you a senior like him?" I asked curiosity getting the best of me.
''Me, no, I just have advanced classes, you, although I don't think you are one, no offense."
''It's OK, I'm not a senior, I have advanced classes and likely to graduate early."
"You don't look a day over 15'' she gasped
"I know, I'm 15 although I'll be 16 in 5 months."
"I'm 16" she smirked
"You smirk a lot" I pointed out.
''I get that a lot" she laughed making me laugh too.
I looked at her closely and discovered she had blue green eyes, a button nose and pink lips.
"Are you Latina?''
"yeah"
"That explains so much" I laughed
"Like?''
"why you are a savage nerd."
"I'll take that as a compliment thank you." She smirked twirling a strand of hair.
We sat and talked for an hour before I was picked up.
"Morning'' I greeted my mother early the next morning.
"morning" she responded.
I walked past her and went to my room, placing the books I was using to study that were in my hands on my desk, I went to my closet and picked out my school outfit before going to take a shower.
After getting ready, I got my backpack and went downstairs, grabbed my vegetable strips and dip that was in a bowl and a Dr pepper from the refrigerator and went to the car where my ride was waiting.
"You seem happy why is that?" My mum asked out of nowhere.
"I got an A+ on my calculus quiz yesterday" I lied not wanting to hear the lecture she would give me when I told her the real reason was that I had made a friend, if I could call her that, for the first time in my life.
"OK" was her response before she turned back to her phone. I had to admit it did hurt that she couldn't tell that I was lying but then again, it was for the best.
"Bye" I bid her goodbye and walked into the school building, the hallways were not yet filled with people as it was still very early. I went to the library and decided to go through what I was to learn today.
After 30 minutes, the bell rung and I left the library for my locker, I got my AP physics books as it was my first class and walked to the laboratory even though it was still early but I preferred going early so I could have time to settle.
Within the next 10 minutes the class was packed.
"Morning class" our teacher greeted when he walked in.
"Morning" we all responded
"Take out your books and turn to unit 4" we all took out our books and the first lesson of the day begun.
"Hey best friend" Leah greeted as she took a seat beside me as I was in the during lunch.
"You're still stuck with that" I chuckled.
"Yep" she wiggled her eyebrows at me and I laughed.
"Don't you have somewhere to be?" I asked
"Like?" She got a carrot strip and chewed on it.
"I don't know, maybe hanging with your friends, it's lunch"
She just shrugged and got another carrot strip.
"Leah" I pressed
"Believe it or not, I don't have friends."
"You, you don't have friends, yah right" I scoffed
"It's true" she told me sincerely
"Why?" I looked at her shocked
"Cause, everyone in this school is either too up there or too nerdy you know" she shrugged
"And I'm not too nerdy?" I eyed her curiously
"Nope, you are super nerdy but you also know how to mind your business plus we have a connection."
I nodded at that, we really did have a connection, this was the first time in my life I had ever had such long conversations with someone who was my age group and we talked about things that weren't only school related, it was the first time I actually felt real around a real human being and I had to admit it felt great, really great.
