"Caitriona!" My mother called from the bottom of the stairs. "Caitriona!"
"Yes" I answered quickly running to her.
"I'm leaving for a business trip." She informed me
"Oh, OK, how long will you be gone for?" I tried my hardest to sound devastated about the situation.
"Probably a week or more depending on how it goes" she shrugged
"OK, have a safe trip."
"I will and don't trash my house while I'm away."
"I won't" I nodded and watched her leave with no goodbye hug, kiss or better yet just the words.
I went to my room and got some books before going to the study and I started doing what I do best. Halfway through what I was studying, my phone rang signaling an incoming video call. I looked at the Skype request ID and a smile appeared on my face.
"Hey best friend." I spoke with a smile plastered on my face at the sight of Leah.
"Hey, I miss you" she pouted.
"I miss you too." I frowned "what are you doing?"
"Watching a post Malone interview" She squealed knowing I loved him and his music.
"No way"
"Yes way." She smirked "what are you doing?"
"Studying"
"It's a Friday night are you insane!"
"No, it's fun"
"Firstly history and fun do not belong in one sentence and you need something better to do, girl it's Friday!" She exclaimed "watch a movie or something."
"Wanna come over?" I asked knowing I wouldn't get in trouble since my mother was out of town
"Like for a sleepover?"
"Yeah, like a sleepover."
"Send me your address, I'll be there."
"OK, see you." I hang up and texted her my address.
After that, I took a shower and changed into comfortable clothes before going to the kitchen and deciding bake myself and Leah some brownies before she arrived.
Leah and I had become pretty close these past weeks and I had to admit her company was really nice.
"Ms Caitriona there's a Leah Rodriguez here for you." A voice came through the intercom as I was pouring the batter for my brownies on a baking tray.
"Let her through." I responded
"OK"
Just after I put the brownies in the oven the door opened and I rushed to hug Leah who was already dressed in blue cotton pyjamas and had a bag on her back.
"It feels like I haven't seen you in forever." We said at the same time.
"Jinx!" We burst out laughing.
"Thank you Simon" I nodded at the guard who had escorted Leah in. He nodded and left.
"I brought pizza" she showed me a box.
"Of course you did." I chuckled taking it into the kitchen. "Let me give you a tour"
"You never told me you were this rich" she marvelled at the house as I gave her a tour.
"My mother is rich not me." I corrected
"There's no difference." She stated and I just shrugged.
By the time we finished the tour, the brownies were ready. I took them out of the oven and put them on a rack to cool.
"You know this is my first sleep over right" I told her
"Then we'll make it a memorable one" she wiggled her eyebrows at me and I giggled with excitement.
"First things first let's get the snacks." She grinned widely and walked into the pantry only to come out with a basket full of at least 2 different cookie boxes, chocolates and bags chips. "Get the ice cream tub, brownies and soda." She instructed and I did as told before we went to my room.
"Why is this so heavy!" Leah whined as we dragged the flat screen TV up the stairs to my room.
"I don't know" I panted, when we finally got to my room, she plugged it in while I set up the binbag chairs for us.
"Don't you just love the titanic." Leah squealed
"Yeah, it is or was one of the biggest ships to have ever existed, titanic" I looked at her
"Excuse me" she looked back at me with utter shock.
"You heard me, the titanic is one of the biggest ships" I repeated
"You have never seen the titanic?" Her mouth fell ajar when I shook my heat no.
"Of course not, I'm not centuries old"
"The movie not the boat" she barely made any sense
"There's a movie?"
"Yes, it's like the best yet saddest romance movie of all times, girl were have you been all your life."
"The spiritual realm" I joked
"Wow, you need to see it, like right now." She switched of the lights making the room dark leaving the light from the TV to illuminate it.
"So how was the movie?" Leah asked when the movie ended
"Not what I expected when you said saddest." I sniffed wiping away the tears that kept streaming down my face.
"I know" she also sniffed "I've seen this movie over a hundred times but I still can't grasp the fact that Jack died."
I had to admit, the movie was super romantic and sad, I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would even though Leah and I spent most of it crying in each others arms.
After another movie, one that was less emotional this time, Leah taught me how to do a pedicure on my own.
"I wanna show you something." I told her and took her hand leading her to the pantry.
"Don't tell me you are some to secret CIA spy" she teased when I moved the macaroni containers and pushed a button that moved the entire shelf reviling a steel door.
"Of course not then it wouldn't be a secret right" I laughed punching in the codes and it slid open.
"Wow" she marvelled at the room after I switched on the light.
"Welcome to my secret layer."
"Does your mum know about this"
"Nope" I smirked "it used to be my dad's escape room when him and my mum argued"
"You never speak much about your dad, why."
"There isn't anything to say" I shrugged
"Oh- OK" I know she knew there was more to the story but I was glad she decided not to inquire further. "Is this-"
"A collection of all the albums ever released by Ariana Grande, yes, yes it is" I grinned
"No way" she gasped
"I also have Post Malone, NF, Billie Ellish oh and of course boys to men and a little Nicky, Beatles, Celine and Whitney"
"Shut up!" She exclaimed
One of the many things Leah and I have in common was our taste of music, she literally like what I liked.
"Can I?" She asked tracing a finger on my classic
"Knock yourself out." I chuckled throwing myself on the cream couch, leaned my head back and closed my eyes.
-When I was young I never needed anyone- the song by Whitney Houston boomed through the speaker
"All by myself, don't wanna be all by myself." I couldn't help but sing along as this particular song was one of my favourites.
"Wow!"
"What!" My eyes snapped open when I heard Leah gasp almost breathlessly.
"You have a beautiful voice."
"No I don't"
"Yes you do, I heard you." She sat beside me "why don't you join the music club."
"Hell no, my mother would flip."
"OK, then sing something for me."
"No"
"Please, please, please, please, please" she screamed in my ears.
"You won't stop if I don't will you"
"You know it" she beamed.
"Any requests?" I stood up
"All the way-"
"Megan Trainor, you remembered" I chuckled and smiled at the fact that she remembered my favourite song.
"I'll never forget" she smiled genuinely.
"This is a different version but still the same lyrics." I told her as I got my guitar.
"You mean your version" she winked.
"Yeah, my version." I nodded and started playing the guitar.
I took a deep breath and closed my eyes.
"I need more details more text calls and emails-" the lyrics I knew like the back of my hand came out of my mouth with my fingers played with the guitar strings producing a beautiful sound that got me singing louder and louder.
"The way you love me" I finished the song.
"I feel like I just went to a private Megan Trainor concert" Leah cheered.
"And I'll be going to a Post Malone one" I wiggled my eyebrows at her.
"No, have you heard me sing, I could break glass literally."
"Rooms sound proof" I smirked
"Don't say I didn't warn you." She got a mop from the corner and used it as a microphone.
"Wow, go Post Maleah!" I cheered
"Post Maleah, really" she laughed
In the end we ended up singing many songs before going back to my room when hunger decided to knock on the doors of our tummies. We watched movies while we stuffed our faces with food.
"You have that goofy smile on your face." Leah pointed out.
"Do I?" I chuckled
"Yes you do, what's-"
Before she finished her sentence I got up and hugged her. I wasn't a hugger but I felt the need to.
"Thank you Leah" I told her
"For what?" She sounded confused
"For being my friend"
"Well thank you for being my friend too" she hugged me back
"Seriously Leah, you are the first friend I've ever had in my life, I know we've only known each other for a few weeks but regardless, I'm really happy to have you in my life."
"I'm happy to have you in my life too Caitriona." She hugged me tighter.
"You up for ice cream?" I asked
"You bet." We clanked our scoops together and dug into the tub of Oreo ice cream.
