As I walked around the open plains, I began to notice some sort of road out in the open a few minutes away. Since I had nowhere to go and, most importantly, absolutely no idea where I was standing at, I decided to try and follow it in order to find some sort of settlement or something similar where I could find food or water since I also didn't had any of those either.
As I approached it, it began to enter some sort of forest. It was pretty different to the forests I was used to. What I mean is that it was formed by trees so big they could easily be bigger than a two-story building. As I started to wonder how in the world did these get so tall, I started to hear what seemed to be some sort of cart moving on the pebble road.
I moved aside and decided to try and hide behind some tall bushes and one of those trees from before. I was different from what a normal human would be in my former world, and by what I already knew about people, and the fact that probably coming across other people would be really bad at the moment, I decided to hide in order to keep myself safe. Just in case.
As if my thoughts had become reality, a cart passed by at moderate speed. It was being pulled by horses, but these were far larger and much more muscular than the usual ones I saw at Earth. They could pretty much topple over any light-weight vehicle if I am to be honest. The man directing them was human, or at least so it seemed, after all, I had no information about how this world functioned to start with.
I decided to wait for it to pass by and then make my way behind it to try and follow the tracks into a settlement or wherever it has heading for since I was pretty bad at orientating myself in places like this. But something felt....Off. I heard the whistling sound of some sort of high-speed object and then the cart stopped on its tracks, the conductor fell on the road with an arrow in the neck and, as far as I saw it, very dead.
When I was alive I saw many horror or action movies where people were "killed" but as expected, the real deal is another whole thing. It was at this moment that I realized how wrong this could go for me if I were to be found by bandits, or if I had to defend myself against another person since I have never killed anybody.
"Got 'em boys. Search it."
A voice spoke up from within the bushes at the other side of the road, it was raspy and...Somehow she could already feel from the sole noise that it made that the man behind it was the leader of these "boys"....Well, bandits to be precise.
""Roger that, boss!""
They seemed to be a band of three people, all wearing black clothes and some few pieces of armor here and there. The leader had no weapon except some kind of gloves, the other two had a bow and some sort of scimitar. Certainly it was a bit of an overkill taking into account that the conductor of the cart was all alone and unarmed....Speaking of which, why was he all alone and without a weapon travelling in the middle of a forest? That sounds incredibly stu-
"Seems we finally tracked them down, right....Boys?"
Another voice spoke, this one was a little....Older I would say. Turning around to check the other side of the road, I noticed quite a few people mounted on the same kind of horse. They were all wearing some sort of uniformed armor that appeared to be very practical and much better crafted than the few scraps that the bandits had on them.
Needless to say, a fight started right there and then. Just then did I noticed the trap that was set up for this instance. The "conductor" was nothing but a mannequin disguised as some sort of civilian, and when I took a closer look, there was no blood on its body from the arrow so it made actual sense.
I never fought anyone with the intention to kill, so I chose to stay hidden in my place without moving a muscle whilst the fight continued, and just when it ended and the armored ones were about to go, I heard something that really gave me the chills.
"Hey you! The one who didn't fought, step out!"
It seems that I had been found out. Cold sweat covered my forehead and my hands started to tremble as I stepped out of the bushes and onto the main road. Unexpectedly, it seemed as if the man didn't had any intention to attack me on sight, so it was already a good thing, or so I thought until I heard his voice again.
"Capture her, this one needs to be interrogated."
As of instinct, I placed my hand on the handle of the sword that was sheathed on my waist and lowered my hips in order to keep a balanced and low center of gravity. I didn't really knew anything, but somehow I could understand what these people were saying, and I wasn't kind to the idea of being interrogated by a bunch of people that are able to kill like it's nothing.
Silence covered the road for a moment before two of the men dismounted and took out their weapons. They approached me at the same time with an amount of coordination that couldn't be achieved through regular kendo training....This people were serious. I grasped tightly my blade and when they were about to attack, I moved first.
I unsheathed my blade and immediatly attacked the one on my left with my pommel. I didn't wanted to kill people and I sincerely thought I couldn't if I had to, so all I had left was to try and defend myself without hurting them too much. The man backed a few steps away from the force of the impact and the pain, but his buddy attack me from the side. I somehow managed to turn my body in such a way that I evaded his downward strike, leaving me a chance to counterstrike with an uppercut to his jaw that would certainly hurt quite a lot.
The other man returned and tried to slash at me in a much more faster way than before, and once again I evaded his attack and counter attacked with my empty hand, this time punching him straight in the neck. He started coughing and dropped his weapon on the ground, but I had wasted a little bit too much time and his buddy got me.
I felt the cut in my back. It was shallow, which meant that I wouldn't probably die from it, but the pain was still something I wasn't very aware of in this new body, so the shock didn't helped me when he continued by kicking the blade out of my hand and pushing me to the ground head first. His buddy was stepped up and now I was being restrained.
".....Fuck...."
Was all that escaped my mouth before I was hit in the back of the head with something hard. This was the second time that I felt like I was falling, but it was much more shorter than before, and it only lated but a moment until I woke up inside some kind of room. It was made of wood so I could tell that I wasn't in some sort of dungeon, or so I hoped for.
"Ugh..."
My head was hurting and spinning all around as I came back to my senses. I was tied with rope to a chair in the middle of a wooden room with now windows whatsoever. I was still wearing my clothes so it meant that I wasn't stripped of them, which was great, but I also didn't had my blade or the scabbard with me, which was pretty bad.
I started to quickly think of some sort of excuse and backstory that I could come up with in order to get out of this situation quick and easy, but as I was thinking, the mand that seemed to be the leader of the armored people entered the room with a chair in hand. He placed it down and sat in front of me with and expressionless face, almost as if waiting for me to ask something....So I did.
"....Where am I?"
"You are currently on the Knight's facilities. Resisting capture is quite a heavy crime you know? Specially if you end up hurting not one but two Knights as well."
"....Who are you?"
"I am the Knight's Captain, Leo. And I have quite a few questions for you to answer."
"Such as?"
"What were you doing at such a place in such a moment? I am quite sure most people know that those forests are plagued with that kind of scum."
"....I don't remember. I woke up on the plains near the road and just followed it into the forest."
"....And you expect me to believe that, Dog?"
For some reason hearing him talking about me in such a way made me angry, and even more so as he called me by a nickname based on my new appearance. But I calmed down and decided to continue my gathering of information.
"It's not my problem if you believe me or not. I simply don't remember anything before that and I don't know those people you killed back there."
"Oh, but it turns out it is your problem after all. You see, I'm the one who makes the rules in this place, and if I want, I could have your ears ortail cut off if you are found to be lying."
Something sadistic in his tone of voice made me believe that he was actually telling the truth, and since I was not feeling like getting mutilated one of these days, I tried to convince him that I was telling the truth.
"I am not lying! I don't remember anything!"
"We shall see."
It was the last sentence I heard before it all started. It appeared that the sadistic tone I heard earlier really was part of his personaility.
The interrogation had just started, and it would go for very long.
