Ellendise waited for a minute, intending to listen and appease her winged companion yet a few seconds had passed and Cestine remained silent.
"Cestine...?" Ellendise called out.
"What do you.."
The fairy huffed. "Cestine doesn't know! But Cestine wants to play. Cestine is tired of seeing Ellen doing boring things!"
Boring things...?
Ah. Ellendise heaved a sigh of relief. It was like that.
Well, the fairy was right. All the things that Ellendise had done the past two weeks while she was recuperating were considered 'boring' for someone who did not understand the reason behind them. She did not read books for nothing.
Ellendise was actually planning.
She was not wallowing in self-pity like what they thought she was doing. She was not bothered about the Count's betrayal and was merely keeping up an act of a daughter who was 'hurt and betrayed' due to her father's speculations which was the result of believing a stranger's nonsensical words.
She had also purposely kept Rachel and Jill out of her life as an excuse to make the Countess worry. Ellendise didn't need to know if the Count had told the Countess of their conversation. With the way the Countess was giving Ellendise her own personal space and time to recover, the Count must have lied and said some other things to pacify his wife.
The fact that the Count had betrayed Ellendise was not something she had taken to heart. She was used to things like this and only now did she realized that regardless of what world she was in, men were all jerks and humans were two-faced creatures.
When she was still Rianne, not a day has passed that her so called 'family' did not target her.
As Rianne, her cousins, aunts and uncles had done their fair share of schemes and plots to make her fall. Some took the white lotus route while the green tea bitches were smart enough to be more direct about it.
There were many such instances were she saw how a family member had betrayed her.
When she was still Rianne, she experienced having her first cousin 'accidentally' slip on the ground, pushing Rianne and causing her to fall on the cold lake during winter. Rianne ended up with a cold and was bedridden for days.
That very same cousin hired a 'doctor' and slipped drugs on her IV, causing her condition to worsen. If not for her immunity, Rianne would have died.
Then there was her aunt who gave her a rare flower from the West, 'ignorant' at the fact that it was actually poisonous and would cause the victim to suffer from a high fever, their insides rotting slowly as the toxic smell of the flower cause them hallucinations, deluding them until they go crazy.
There was also her adopted brother who gifted her a brand new car and that very same car that was newly bought had a 'minor' problem with its brakes. Rianne crashed on a tree and if not for her quick thinking, she would have suffered more wounds and might have even broken her legs in the process.
And what about her dear uncle who handed her a luxurious watch that was worth a billion euro? That very same watch contained a tracking device and a self-destructing function. When worn, the explosion would atleast cause severe damage to the wrist it was attached to, maybe even breaking said wrist and would make the victim a disabled.
Compared to the Count's actions, Ellendise has suffered worst than this.
Ellendise was not sulking in her room like everyone believed but she was just using this time to be alone where she wouldn't have to put up any pretense. She was also planning for the future.
Five years seemed like a short time.
Some people would call her paranoid for preparing so early and worrying about a matter that seemed so far away but Ellendise didn't want to take any chances.
The Archduke nearly killed her.
He tried to kill her.
He wanted to kill her.
And no doubt, as the villainess, she would experience more murder attempts in the future. Ellendise wasn't delusional enough to think that she was safe just because she knew the future or just because she was friends with the female lead and a few supporting characters.
The future isn't set in stone.
Sometimes, even when you did nothing to offend others, trouble would come knocking down your door. This was a novel cliché that always happened on transmigrated or reincarnated characters.
Ellendise was pretty sure that she was about to go down the same route of being a magnet for danger.
Anyway, with how ambitious she was, she was pretty sure that she would end up pissing one or two more villains no matter how much she tries to appear like a dodder flower, weak and insignificant.
There was also Cestine, a fairy with a weird temperament. Ellendise was not keen on making an enemy out of her winged companion especially when the fairy was still useful to her.
Fixing her expression, Ellendise smiled.
"Then, how about we play.."
