I was busy, slowly but surely, putting everything away. I didn't know that the closet would be so big that it would make my clothes look really weird. It was so fancy and then there were some disgusting 'rags' in the corner, with the rest of the closet fully wide open. I sighed and closed it, not really in the mood to care.
When I finally got done, the room still looked so empty. I didn't have a lot to get but what I did know was that what I did have to give, was going to be the ring I had gotten prince William. A very expensive lapis ring that I hoped he would attempt to wear. What if he hated it because he wasn't a fan of cheap Village things. I carefully sneaked it under some folded clothes on my dresser, hoping it would stay there until the day I decided to give it.
A knock on the door caused me to turn to it. The prince said I would have a maid. I always thought it was a bit weird to have my own personal maid since that also meant that she would be working for someone she had a higher ranking of. I wasn't anything special so why did I deserve one? I opened the door to reveal a fancied-looking girl with her black hair neatly braided back as she carried a pile of folded clothes inside.
"Hello sir," She said, setting them down on the chair that laid in the corner of the room, "Would you like me to get you dressed in the properly dressed wear for the day as I show you around the castle?" She asked. I stared at the ground for a minute.
"You can call me Jess," I smiled, "What would you like me to call you?" I asked. Her face grew into a blush as she was surprised to hear such respect. She bowed.
"You may call me Maiden Sarah" She introduced. I nodded as she picked up one of the many folded clothes and started to undress me. She started with my shirt, unbuttoning it to the point I felt embarrassed. Is this how it felt to kings to get dressed or once they were married did their wives do this? Would I have to do this to William? My face heated up.
She dressed me in a silky blue suit with a white shirt under it and a black tie. My pants hung down to my ankles where the socks tucked neatly into the shoe. My hair was curled a little in the front, causing the sparks in my eyes to be filled with pure happiness. I looked in the mirror for a while, my eyes scanning over it. Every feature about me changed and yet it was the same. I was still Jess, but different. Something new changed in me, and to be honest I didn't know if I was scared or excited.
"Are you ready for the tour?" She asked, "There are some parts we cannot go in because it's for the royal family and they're having a meeting." Maiden Sarah said. I didn't speak, reaching my hand to my hair and brushing through it. I hummed an agreement as she walked towards the door. As we went out the door she decided to go left and show me the back of the castle. Close to the end, we saw every guest room, the bathrooms, the kitchen, the dining room, the many many stairs, the roof, some other interesting parts, and the bedroom of William. I didn't go in there because he didn't say I was allowed to.
"And this is the garden" Maiden Sarah outstretched her arm. I was amazed by the huge garden. The many different flowers, the pond that laid perfectly in the middle, the perfectly pale carved benches that were on the side. It was all so perfect. Since childhood, I wasn't really allowed in the garden because boys can't be so girly, but Father wouldn't pay attention sometimes or he would be at work, and I would go out in the back yard and look at some flowers. I gasped when I saw the royal garden.
Bending down, I let my hands gently dip in the pond. The way the ripples in it were in sync and it sent waves of wind flow through the garden and move the flowers back and forth. The place was beautiful, having a great view too.
"You must be Mr. Ashmane?" A deep voice spoke. I turned my head to a mysterious-looking man who looked down at me. I gave a quick nod, knowing it had to be someone royal in the family. He waved his hand to tell Maiden Sarah to leave, to which she quickly obeyed and walked off.
"Yes sir, I am" I spoke at last when he knelt down to my level. I had drawn my hand back from the pond and sat on my knees so I wouldn't fall in.
"I am Prince Deven" He introduced, "I am from the kingdom of the west from here. I just got out of a meeting with the king and prince. Seems to be going well for now, at least, but what about you? I have heard you have come here to find out if the prince is who you want to marry. Am I right?" he questioned.
I stood up slowly, cautiously, "Yes, I am". He had guessed I was getting a little uncomfortable.
"Oh please don't worry. I'm not here to harm you at all. In fact, I think you are quite an interesting boy" He hummed, scanning his eyes over me and walking in circles to check me out. I felt a little anxious with the eyes of someone looking at me. I fiddled with my fingers, feeling my hands heat up with embarrassment. I quickly crouched down and set my hands in the water, just in time to cover the fire.
"A-A beautiful pond, i-isn't it" I stated quickly, hoping he didn't see the smoke that came out of my hands seconds before.
"Yes, I suppose it is," He said, "But just as you know, mines bigger". I had thought about what he said for a minute. I thought he meant the pond but when he looked down at me with a smirk I knew what he was talking about.
"U-Um, I have to go now. I might not be the prince but I certainly have hobbies I could be doing. I love playing the violin so I should go practice now" I spat my words out quickly and turned to leave. Just as I did, his hands wrapped around my wrist.
"I love the violin. How about this, I'll come back tomorrow and we can play violin together. A perfect way to get to know each other" He added. I was about to decline when I remember that he could easily start a war with the kingdom. This means all the villages too. I would never live with myself if I caused so much pain and sorrow because of someone who wanted to play violin with me.
"Sure!" I smiled 'happily' "See you then" I then turned and walked away again, feeling eyes burn the back of my head. What a long day.
