"Get low said Durgan as he and Aniba crept toward the edge of the cliff. Pressing their nostrils against the thick grass hiding their faces.
Nadia and her sister followed closely behind as Durgan, Baraxis, and Aniba led the way until at last all five were sitting to the edge of a slopped cliff leading down into a expansive green valley.
The air was alive with discernable rumbling noise below.
The heard has been feasting for hours.
The collection of bestial savage boars, each the size of a small house were grouped into a mass of imposing brown flesh and hairy hides near the edge of a river. Each creature lumbering lazily, pressing their rounded scarred snouts deep into the underground for hard roots and grubs the size of boulders they so craved. They hadn't a care in the world at the moment, not many creatures messed with bestials. How could they if they tried. Nadia counted at least fifty, including females and piglets huddled closely together in the center of the defensive ring. On the outskirts were the young males watching a fight. Two bestials were Sparring aggressively over competition of mates while the tired old elders acted as sentries, watching for any approaching dangers that threatened their unaware heard. The young males were all restless. Stomping their hoofs into the ground as they watched the fight, snorting and squealing. Their bloodshot eyes couldn't look away from the spectacle of which of the largest males in the heard would win this oh so common fight to the death.
So, which one is it? Asked Baraxis as he crawled up further besides Durgan watching the skirmish below between two boars.
Ill tell you in a minute. Responded Durgan watching through the telescope he had packed.
A horrendous sound resounded throughout the valley, as suddenly the larger of the two flipped the pretender on his backside before shoving his two sharpened tusks deep into its soft underbelly. The overly ambitious pretender twitched and writhed before growing silent, bleeding out int othe dirt, whimpering until it was at last still. The champion, a black boar riddled with scars and snapped off spear tips, with a sudden violent reverse thrust it had clearly done before, removed his now red coated tusks dripping with blood to return to the center of the heard for his prize leaving his defeated foe to the birds.
That one. Resplied Durgan giving his answer. Lets go.
The two hunters slid back down the slope into the jungle bush to prepare for the fight ahead.
That black monster down there was what they would be going up against soon. Thought Nadia nervously. A creature that could so easily take down a group of hunters as if it weren't even a challenge to it. Nadia had caught normal boars with her father, but never anything like this. These weren't prey, they were armored tanks with fur. She wasn't even sure if her webbing would hold them in place let along hinder them. But there was no going back now. She had made a deal. And she must repay it.
She followed the two hunters back down into the clearing below to prepare.
So whats the plan? She asked. Donning her bow. What's my role in all this?
Well cleary it would be stupid to go up against an entire bestial herd. Were going to have to draw him out to catch him.
Ok? and how exactly do we do that?
Bait.
Give him something big to charge at. A beast that big and dumb won't resist the chance to prove itself to its hered as the biggest and strongest. Well use that to our advantage.
Aniba stepped foward excitiedly. And hungrily.
No not for you. Replied durgan. We need it alive. No snack not this time. Snack after.
The bestial lizard grunted and scampered back into place. A clear indication of whatever.
Me and Aniba will step onto the field and play the part of approaching predator. The Males will see us and form a defensive wall and charge all at once. Now since she can't take them all at the same time, I'll be in the saddle with her to guide her back into the jungle where the trees will help provide cover and slow their advance on us. That's where you three come in.
You and your sister stay here and Set up web traps and fences between the trees, leading them along an artificial path to funnel them tighter and tighter together until there neck and neck with no way to move. Once they are all in, you'll have to work fast to seal of their exit. I'm trusting that web of yours will hold up. Don't disappoint me. Once we have them, Baraxis will keep to the trees and use mist bombs to put them all to sleep. With no open space or way to run it will be easy pickings. Just don't get stepped on once they charge and we should be fine. At all costs stay out of their way.
