The orchestra went on to play after Anna left. A few murmurs of disappointment echoed when she ran towards the exit.
"What happened?"
"Is she alright?"
"Too bad she couldn't finish the song."
"I hope it's nothing serious."
Kristofer wanted to chase after her. He, too, was worried.
What could've startled Anna so suddenly that she paused? Did something happen? What was going on inside her head right now?
But he was stuck between making an excuse and raising a suspicious gaze from his parents or staying still.
He was great at pretending when he needed to be. Defying what his gut was trying to tell him, Kristofer finally signaled for a server and got himself a glass of champagne.
Neither his father nor his mother spared to look at him or reprimand him about drinking. He didn't intend to drink tonight. He wanted to stay sober until Anna met with his parents.
