Chapter 4 - Chapter Four | Rescue

I'm almost to StoneCold when I hear something.

"Alexander, can you hear me?"

I know that voice, it was Liebe's.

'Liebe?'

"That's what they call me." He says, "Congratulations on surviving by the way."

'Thanks.'

'What's with all the demon stuff on those screens and my appearance.' I ask him in my mind, 'Did you turn me into a demon.'

"Sorta, I guess?" Liebe says.

'Why are you saying "Sorta" and "I guess" are you not even sure!'

"No, you're a demon now." He tells me.

I stop running and just stand on the sidewalk, dumbfounded.

"I mean you can check on your own." He says, "Just say < Character >."

'< Character >'

Without any knowledge of what would happen, a screen appears in front of me.

< Voice of Liebe >

-----------------------------------

'< Race: Inferior Demon >, you're kidding me!'

"You did say you'd accept anything for your sister." Liebe tells me.

'I didn't know I'd be a fucking Demon! Hell, I'm not even a full fledged demon, I'm an < Inferior Demon >!'

"We all have to start somewhere." He laughs.

'Screw this I need to find Eva!'

"Before you do that, you should invest your < Status Points > onto your stats." Liebe says.

'Guhhh! First I need to know what they do.'

'< Strength >, < Agility >, and < Intellect > all are pretty obvious, but < Stamina > can do something besides having energy. Like being related to health.'

'Since this "< System >" is like a video game I'm assuming < Spirit > is like Mana. < Awareness > just seems like my surroundings.'

"WoW! You're pretty good at this, points for figuring this out!" Libe says, "You're not really getting any point for the < System > though."

'I don't have any weapons on me so I can only attack with my fists unless there's an unused weapon where they're holding Eva. In that case, I should invest some into < Strength >.'

'Besides that, if < Awareness > is high enough I could possibly learn a < Skill > to find her.'

'< Status | Add >'

'< Strength: 5 >, < Stamina: 5 >, < Awareness: 15 >'

-----------------------------------

===< Character Sheet Updated >===

< Health Points: 130 / 130 >

< Strength: 75 >

< Stamina: 80 >

< Awareness: 75 >

-----------------------------------

'As I thought, < Stamina > relates to health.'

-----------------------------------

---< Spectral Sight | Inferior >---

Allows you to see enemies and people through physical barriers, as well as enemies that are invisible.

Allows you to see weapons that enemies and people are carrying.

Allows you to find the locations of people that you are close to or have seen you in < Metamorphosis >.

Losing < Health Points > or attacking cancels < Spectral Sight >.

-<>- Gained By: < Awareness: 75 > -<>-

-----------------------------------

'And I was right about raising my < Awareness > too. I should just be able to see where she is now.'

'< Spectral Sight | Evelyn Kleave >'

Suddenly it was like my vision was fleeing from my body. My sight was bolting down the sidewalk, through allies, and finally leading me to the Warehouse District where I saw Eva being kept. I couldn't see anything besides the outline of buildings and people.

People were different colors. When my sight went past the sidewalks everyone was yellow, when I arrived at the warehouse everyone was red except for Eva and a few, what I assume were other kidnapped girls. They were green.

My guessing was that Red are hostiles, yellow are neutral, and green are friendly.

I started running down the path < Spectral Vision > showed me and eventually got to the warehouse where Eva was being kept. I get ready to enter the building, but another screen appears.

-----------------------------------

===< Quest >===

---< Save the Princess >---

You have reached the warehouse where Evelyn is being kept along with other kidnapped girls. By using < Spectral Sight > you can see that there are 12 Betrayers and are armed and ready to kill any intruders.

< Quest Objective >

Kill all 12 Betrayers and rescue the hostages.

---< Quest Reward >---

< Eva >

< Surviving Hostages >

< Gold: +350 >

< Status Points: +15 >

---< Quest Failure or Refusal >---

< Hostages Die >

< Hostages Sold >

< Possible Death >

-----------------------------------

'Betrayers, no wonder they did this.'

"Betrayers: Hunters that have gone rogue and given up on helping humanity." Is the official definition. A simpler explanation is that they're Hunters who have become criminals.

-----------------------------------

===< Accept Quest >===

< Yes >

< No >

-----------------------------------

'< Yes >'

I walk up to the door of the warehouse and kick it in. As I walk inside I can see nine Betrayers on the ground floor.

'That means three are guarding the girls.'

Two of the Betrayers come after me. One of them seems to be a Barbarian and the other is a Sorcerer. The Barbarian immediately charges at me with a greatsword, while the Sorcerer starts casting a spell.

'Shadowstep'

I immediately appear behind the Sorcerer and strike him at the base of his skull, severing his cervical nerve. He immediately falls to the ground.

"H-he's dead." I mutter in disbelief.

'Someone shouldn't die from a normal strike to the neck unless the increase in my strength from the < System > could easily kill someone now.'

When I look back up to the Barbarian I see a small screen in the corner of my vision.

-----------------------------------

===< Character >===

< Health Points: 130 / 130 >

< Spirit Points: 65 / 90 >

-----------------------------------

'Well that's nice to know what my numbers are at and it's not obstructing my vision.'

The Barbarian turns around and sees his friend on the ground, stunned at how he died with no visible wounds. Although he sees what happened, he still decides to charge at me again.

'I don't want to use up all my < Spirit Points > by using < Shadowstep > over and over. From what I can tell either < Shadowstep > or < Spectral Sight > cost 10 < Spirit Points > and the other is 15 points.'

The Barbarian was in front of me before I knew it and raised his greatsword into the air, ready to cut me down. When he brought it down everything started moving a tiny bit slower and I could barely dodge the sword, as soon as I dodged everything went back to normal speed.

'This must be < Agility >.'

The greatsword lands hard into the concrete ground and becomes stuck. I quickly jab him in the side repeatedly while he's trying to get his sword out and he starts coughing up blood.

He crashes to the ground continuing to cough up blood. In the back of my mind, I could hear a voice telling me to drink it.

'That's not Liebe's voice, so who is it.'
