Today I was awakened by the sound of my ringtone. It was Yui-san, she was calling me. It must be something about Hasegawa-san. I answered the call.
[Y]"Good morning, Tanaka-san."
[T]"G-good morning."
[T]"It's about my sister. The investigation was closed. But I have yet to hear what happened to my sister. My mom is keeping me in the dark about this case."
[T]"W-when?"
[Y]"Just now, mom told me."
[T]"W-where I-is S-she?"
[Y]"Sister? She's currently here at our house because our dad got arrested. Mom said she was involved in this case."
[T]"W-what now?"
[Y]"I was planning on talking to her, but I figured I should leave her alone for a while, or It's just me not wanting to know what happened."
[T]"A-are you o-okay?"
[Y]"I'm not even sure myself. Right now, I'm confused and scared. I wouldn't even know what to say to my sister if I talk to her right now."
[T]"W-what is s-she doing?"
[Y]"She locked herself up in the guest bedroom. She hasn't even come out for breakfast. I'm worried about her, but at this moment I don't know what to do. I don't even know what happened to her. I have an idea, but I don't want to jump to conclusions. It might even make the current situation worse."
[I regained a bit of my speaking ability, but this is still not enough to give off a proper response to Yui-san.]
[T]"I w-will text y-you."
[Y]"Uh, oh, sure."
[T]"#What details do you know about Hasegawa-san."
[Y]"I don't know anything else aside from what I told you. I keep trying to ask my mom, but she avoids answering the question."
[T]"#I'm also worried about Hasegawa-san, but I also don't know what to do. Especially with my condition, but I won't give up just yet. I'll try to figure something out."
[Y]"It's late to ask this, but why are you so determined to help my sister? I don't mean to be rude, but I just wanted to know your reason."
[T]"#It's not an interesting story, but sure I could tell you about it."
[Y]"I'd like to hear it or read in this case."
[T]"#Well, before I met Hasegawa-san, I was just a good-for-nothing. I stayed cooped up inside my room, playing video games, watching anime, and such. I ignored everything around me, even my family. I spent my days wanting to be the character in the anime I was watching."
[Y]"Oh, so in short words, you were a weirdo?"
[T]"#You couldn't be blunter about that, can you?"
[Y]"Hehe."
[T]"#Moving forward, I first met Hasegawa-san in town. It was raining at that time, and she was soaking wet. She didn't have an umbrella with her at that time. I pitied her and gave her mine. After that, I just ran off in the pouring rain."
[Y]"So, you're that type of weirdo that gives out umbrellas to strangers."
[T]"#I just pitied her, and I'm no weirdo end of the story. Continuing, I meet Hasegawa-san again at the place where we visited a few days ago, and she returned my umbrella. Then after that, we talked for a while and exchanged phone numbers."
[Y]"Ah, I get it now. You're hitting on my sister, aren't you?"
[T]"There's never a dull moment with you, huh?"
[Y]"Hehe."
[T]"#Let's continue, then after that, we met during weekends. At first, we only met at weekends to deal with Hasegawa-san's problems. Then, at some point, it was me who was having problems. Talk about turning tables. But I was glad that she was there. I was able to bring out the things I wanted to say."
[Y]"You guys are weird."
[T]"#Why"
[Y]"Who tells a person all their problems after they just met?"
[T]"#I can't argue with that. But I can tell you that I felt something after talking to Hasegawa-san. I can't put it into words, but there's this weird feeling that we both understand each other."
[Y]"Well, there's no point in wandering about the past now, but at least I got to know your reason. You weren't wrong when you said it was not that interesting."
[T]"#I told you so."
[Y]"I know this is sudden, but can I come over to your place later?"
[T]"#Eh, why?"
[Y]"I want to have a personal chat with you."
[T]"#Why not just talk about it on the phone?"
[Y]"It's easier to explain some things personally."
[T]"#like what things?"
[Y]"I'll just come over there whether you like it or not."
[T]"#Yui-san, wait."
*the call ends.
It's still early in the morning. I'm too lazy to get out of bed, but I have no choice here, do I? I head downstairs for breakfast. When I got there, there was already food prepared on the table.
[A]"Oh, you're already awake. It's unusual for you to wake up this early. Did something happen?"
[T]"Yui-san c-called."
[A]"Oh, Yui-san. Don't tell me your hitting on her?"
[Oh, come on, not you too.]
[T]"I a-am not!"
[A]"It was just a joke no need to get mad. I also noticed that you can talk a bit more clearer now."
[T]"Yui-san i-is coming o-over."
[A]"Wait, today?"
[T]"Y-yes."
[A]"I need to prepare more food then."
Aoi heads back to the kitchen to prepare more food. As I was about to take my first bite, I heard the sound of the doorbell. Aoi was busy cooking, so I was the one who opened the door. I rolled up to the front door with my wheelchair and opened the door. I open the door, and it was Yui-san. I was expecting her to be here, but she's early. It hasn't even been thirty minutes yet since she called.
[Y]"Oh, good morning, Tanaka-san."
[T]"Y-you're early!"
[Aoi heard me and came to the front door.]
[A]"Yui-san."
[Y]"Good morning, Aoi-san."
[A]"Good morning too. Please come in."
[Y]"Pardon the intrusion."
[A]"Have you eaten breakfast yet?"
[Y]"No, I haven't."
[A]"Then would you like to join us for breakfast?"
[Y]"I would love to."
[A]"Let me just finish up then."
[Y]"Oh, sure."
All of us went to the kitchen for breakfast. As Yui-san and I sat down, we smell the delicious aroma of salmon along with the sizzling sound of omelets in a pan.
[N]~In Japan, they use the word "Ojamashimasu" when entering someone's house. The Japanese expression "Ojamashimasu" means "I will disturb you" or "I will get in your way." It is used as a polite greeting when entering someone's house. You don't use it for your own house.~
