Chapter 4 - Chapter 4 | The Hunting Event

While she was on her way back to the mansion, her father, the Marquis of Valenstein was wondering whether he should bring his 9 year old daughter to the Hunting Event organized by the Royal Family every year in the season of spring.

Wondering what she could do in her free time, she fell asleep before realizing. The trip back to home wasn't short but when the carriage had arrived at her mansion, she hadn't woken up yet. The butler carried her from the carriage to her room and placed her on her bed and quietly left the room. When she woke up, it was already night. She was hungry because she had fallen asleep before eating anything.

She hadn't learnt how to cook so going to the kitchen to make something to eat was not an option for her. That's when she came up with a technique that would change the foundations of kingdoms to come by in the future. Although it had occurred to many, she was the first one to successfully do it. And the ability in question is sustaining a body with mana. Although she might've succeeded in performing it, she didn't plan to let it out yet. The spell wasn't perfectly safe for use and any adverse effect on the body wasn't accounted for.

The sun rose not much long after. Looking at her more eager than ever before to finish her breakfast, the populace of the mansion was confused but they left it at that. During her dance lessons, she was called by her father to his office. She was wondering about the reasons this could've happened but nothing came to her mind. When she arrived at his office, her father asked "Do you wish to attend the Annual Spring Hunting Event?"

She, without hesitation, replied, "Yes, I wish to do so." She had no contact with people other than the ones at her mansion. All her works were done by the servants and she didn't have anyone to whine about various issues to, precisely a friend. She might even learn more magical engineering and other stuff that might be more practical than etiquette and dance lessons.

She then thought how lonely her life actually is before taking her leave from the room. The Hunting Event was scheduled for the next week. Precisely 4 days later. That would be the 3rd day of the next week.

'Now that I think of it, my birthday's right around the corner too.' She thought to herself as she continued walking back to the room where she was supposed to practice dancing. When she arrived there, despite her efforts, she couldn't find her teacher.

A maid by the name of Celia explained her about the situation and after dismissing the maid, Ren returned to her room.

She currently wanted to make more progress in terms of magic but her parents wouldn't allow her to. 'Sure would be great if I was born as a magical race next time.'

Unknown to Death, nor known to life, she had just raised a flag. The next few days, she continued reading books that she chose randomly off the bookshelf. During this period, she managed to successfully activate a Tier 3 spell. While some grown up adults in their 30s would only manage to activate a Tier 2 spell, she managed to activate a spell one tier higher at the age of 9. She didn't know how lucky she was in terms of reincarnation blessings but that was a huge help to her. If she was raised by a talented Mage, she could possibly be the youngest Arch-mage. But currently, she had no plans to let her prowess be known to the public.

After all, in a setting like this, she could be backstabbed any moment. And her prowess at the moment while much higher than it was in her previous life, was quite significantly weak. A full-fletched Tier 3 mage can be subdued by 100 trained warriors, but she wasn't a full-fletched Tier 3 so she decided to play it safe. She controlled her mana to activate spells at low power levels to make sure that talent in terms of magic didn't leak out.

People thought that she only wanted to spend time by reading those books because it wasn't unnatural for people to be intrigued by magic. And her life was quite lonely. Grown up being sheltered by her over-protective parents, no friends or siblings to talk to, it really was a lonely life.

On the night before the day of the Hunting Event, she was hit by a sudden realization. 'Weapons and other equipments can increase your powers.' She had been training without a catalyst. Tier 1Aprrentice Mages use a wand to stabilize the flow of magic, high level mages may use some sort of objects like a cube, a sphere, a staff or a book to perform magic more efficiently and effectively.

She had completely overlooked that part but her ability without such items made her happy. To activate Tier 3 spells without equipment were things Tier 5 and above could perform.

She was very self-satisfied that she fell asleep before realizing. In the morning the next day, the preparations were mostly done, it was currently very early in the morning, since time measuring devices were not developed, she couldn't tell if things were going smoothly and efficiently or not. But the sun had just begun to rise.

She could still see the maids running around making preparations for the knights that were taking part in the Event. A few knights were allowed to participate in the Event in order to support the Young Master of the noble family they served. Only 4 knights were allowed to participate in the Event alongside the Noble.

There were 4 carriages prepared for the Event by the Valenstein Family. The first carriage was used by the first pair of knights, the second was used by the family, the third was used to store potions, medications and other resources and the last carriage was used by the second pair of knights and were accompanied by 4 knights riding horses.

The ride was very long and since the communication was pretty bad, they couldn't get the information about the weather. The route to the Hunting Forest included a road that was carved on the side of the hill. This is where the only child of Valenstein Family and the Mistress of the family would lose their life. The Master of the family grieved a lot. He spent a lot of time drinking and got a second wife that gave birth to a son that would continue the bloodline.

"Long time no see." Said the voice that she had forgotten about. Sitting in front of her, pouring tea in a cup in the same fashion 9 years ago, was the woman who would soon send her to her next life.
