Trish hurried out of the kitchen at the chaotic steps coming down the stairs. Tara was walking briskly to the front door but Trish grabbed her hand to bring her to a halt.
"Why the hurry, miss? You haven't had the cookies yet. Stay a little longer!" her British accent sounded soothing to Tara. Trish had been like a mother to her. Unfortunately, right now, she couldn't adhere to her wish.
Tara covered the woman's old wrinkly hand with both of hers and said apologetically, "It won't be possible today. I'll come another time to meet you, j-just that I have a lot on my list today. Let me go for now? I'll come soon. Promise!"
"You have to come soon. After moving away, it seems that you have forgotten the way to this home again. And when you finally return, that too is for business. Don't forget us again? It feels good to see you at home." Trish chided though her eyes were as warm as ever. She might be angry but she can never hold on to that anger for long.
"Let her go, Trish. She has done that long ago so why hold on to her for this long? Let her be happy away from here." Ryland had come down to ask for some food and heard Trish persuading Tara much to his annoyance. He wanted to give Tara the slightest feel of the pain she inflicted on him thus the harsh words.
"I'll go now. G-goodbye, Trish." Tara left through the door in a blur leaving behind a stiff smile for Trish to remember.
Ryland too went back upstairs after saying, "Send my breakfast to the study. I'll have it there."
Trish sighed looking left and right where the two people had disappeared- to tend to their wounds alone, hiding their emotions in the depth of their souls.
'Aish! what did they think? Just because they were turning a blind eye to their feelings, everyone else was blind as well? Anyone can see what's going on between these two. I just hope that these children can find their way out of the maze destiny has put them in.'- she released another sigh before returning to the kitchen.
Tara stood before her car, her back pressed against the door. She stood there silently, trying to calm her beating heart. She wanted to call Liliana to let her know of the situation.
The sunlight streamed through the transparent purple curtains and illuminated the room brightly. It reflected on the mirror on the opposite wall and fell over the crystal fountain placed in the middle of the room. Most of the accessories in the room were crystals and glasses. According to Liliana, transparency makes things less complex which humans were not, so why not things!
The walls were mostly purple with decor of black, prints and designs. Wall lamps hung from them. A small bookshelf was pushed against the wall beside a silver armchair. One wall held many musical instruments, violin, flute, variation of guitars, etc. A table stood before them where Liliana was scribbing away. The glossy floor was littered with crumbled musical notes.
She has been trying to bring out what she had in her mind for the theme song of Evergreen. All the attempts ended in failure. She couldn't find the contentment that she was seeking from even her own words. She didn't know what could satisfy the criteria she didn't she had set up. Or maybe...the right time for this song to be brought down on paper hadn't come yet.
She snatched the phone from the table on the first ring, "Hello, Tara."
"Yeah Lilia, I just met the boss. He approved my resignation. I can collect my stuff from the company any time now." came the stiff voice of Tara.
"That's great! One less thing to worry about." Liliana felt like it was a relief. Now, she didn't have to worry about not having someone reliable in a new territory. In Edison's territory. The thought made her smirk.
"True," Liliana had an incling that Tara didn't mean that. She sounded almost mechanical, nube to everything that Liliana didn't know was the matter.
"Your sucker mood tells me that Ryland Donovan was as grumpy as ever."
"Tell me about it." Tara rolled her eyes.
Liliana chuckled, "Did you notice any lumps on his head today?"
"What lumps?" Tara frowned in bewilderment then it dawned on her.
"Horns."
"Horns."
They said together which led to a laughing fit. It felt good to act like normal employees and let go the I-carry-a-world-on-my-shoulder act, that they had adapted to over time, once in a while.
"I'll hang up now. I haven't reached home yet. Talk to you later." Tara said. The smile hadn't left her lips yet. It was so rare for her to see Liliana in the nosy-employee mood.
"Okay, bye."
Tara hung up and Liliana put the phone down feeling a bit lighter. 'Hmm, lighter. I know how that feels, like gravity has left your side.' she tilted her lips upward at the recollection of something that had happened after she had become best friends with her new neighbor...
Dorrie was standing outside her house waiting for Edison to come out of his so that they could catch the school bus. Apparently, today the always punctual Edison had decided that he would take his time.
Dorrie felt her patience ticking away along with the time. She huffed and started matching for Edison's front door. How dare he make her wait this long. The bus would leave in a few minutes. 'Would he take me to school in a donkey cart then?' she was fuming in her mind.
She was stopped from stepping any further by a hand that held on to her wrist.
Dorrie turned around, ready to lash out on whoever stopped her but Edison's presence made her momentarily speechless with anger.
"Wher_" Dorrie wanted to scream at him but he placed his index over her lips and said,"Shh, not so loud." his hand still held on to her wrist.
So Dorrie whisper-yelled, "Where the hell were you?"
Edison stared at her with eyes wide opened, "Dorrie! Where did you learn that? Cussing is bad manners and you're still a child!" Edison mustered an adult-like tone which sounded ridiculous with his childish voice.
Dorrie placed her hands on her waist and said, "Don't you know it's very ungentlemanly to make a girl wait on your doorsteps!"
Edison scratched his head, "You didn't wait on my doorsteps but yours." he mumbled softly.
"W-whatever, you did make me wait. That counts." Dorrie was giving Edison a pointed look that made the boy more guilty.
But he perked up at the thought of what he had planned out for the day. His eyes held anticipation as he said, "We are bunking today. Let's do something else!" it was more of a question as he wasn't sure how Dorrie would take that idea.
"Okay..." she trailed, "And what are we going to do?" she was apprehensive.
He held her hand, dragging her along the opposite direction of the bus stand. He had a playful grin on his face while saying, "I found an awesome place yesterday. Let me show you."
