Chapter 19 - Chapter 20; Shrewd Vandalism

"Shhhh, don't make a sound", Bamus quietly mumurred to one of the fourth cohorts he had taken with him to loot and vandalize the third storehouse which was the next one indicated on the map. There were nine storehouse located at coordinate parts in the city as shown on the map which also indicated each path that led to each granary. Two main granaries, that kept large rations and other palliatives, was located at the southern end of the city which was near the south gate while two storehouses were also built at the eastern, western, and northern parts of the city, leaving a central storehouse in the mid-section of the city that had been earlier safeguarded by Ravon, Weymas and Makus which is now sealed with a strong force field, that prevent any intruder from gaining unauthorized access to the storehouse. Each granary were marked red on the map while the pathway to each of them were all blue-marked together with the text which shows the name and number of items as well as palliatives that is stored in each granary.

Bamus and his crew had succeeded in vandalizing and looting two granaries at the eastern section which had ignited several waves of protests and civil unrest in that part of the city at the council members incapability of securing the palliatives meant to replenish the increasing scarcity of food as well as material relief that had resulted after the plague and rendered the civilized lives of the plebs to wretched low standard of living. Wild false rumors that was masterminded by Akanon had circulated round the city but didn't make any significant impact on the plebs like he had hoped. However, it actually began going rampant in full force when the two granaries were looted and set ablaze after taking all the precious rations and palliatives from it without the knowledge of the sentry guards. The council saw it as a punch to their face as well as a dent to their prestige which prompted them to reinforce the sentry guards to eleven at the other storehouses that were protected by three guards.

Seeing that their recent success in looting those two granaries which had kick-started phase 2 that yielded good results after the incident, Bamus and his crew of ten had gone to the western section to carry out the same plans to vandalize the two storehouses and had utilized the map effectively in finding out the exact position of the storehouse beginning with the first one. There were six guards seems which took turns in securing the front yard of the perimeter to prevent anyone without an authorized pass that contain the council members insignia that was shared to those who were hungry and to those who had no livelihood who were also given some bag of crop seeds for planting.

They saw that the security was tight and had waited as well as studied the whole movements the whole day even at night, that were undertaken by the sentry guards, which enabled them to seize an opportunity and secretly entered into the perimeter over the back wall when nine guards on duty had retired to their rooms where they were fast asleep, leaving only two guards to watch the entrance gate.

"Take care not to make any noise that will arose the guards who will jeopardize our mission", Bamus whispered quietly to his companions who nodded in response to what he mumurred to them. They stealthily move with ease using fur shoes in order to lessen the sound of their footsteps, towards the granary inside the compound. When they arrived at the granary, Bamus ordered two of them to stealthily knock out the two guards to sleep at the gateway and to keep a lookout for any disturbances as well as two others should keep watch at the retired guard rooms while the remaining six including himself should clear out all the rations and palliatives from the set of catalogue and to use a torch to set it ablaze which they promptly obeyed and stealthily knocked out the two guards with ease as well as kept a lookout for the other crew that had finished looting the granary.

While four hastily moved the last palliatives to two others that were positioned outside the fenced perimeter at the back of the compound, the two others Bamus sent to keep watch over the retirees raised a silent signal that one of them had come outside from the room and was headed their way towards the granary. Bamus quickly signaled them to escape being seen as he slowly shut the door of the granary while his companions escaped by jumping over the fence which was surprisingly built having lower fences instead of having a raised one to prevent anyone from entering the compoun climbing over the wall to create unnecessary nuisance there.

The two burglars at the gateway quickly ran out of the compound through the gateway leaving a piece of white cloth on the ground lying close to the gate. The sentry guard who had woken up didn't notice anything amiss as he walked onwards towards the restroom close to the granary and went inside unaware of Bamus hiding behind the wall. After the guard had shut the door, Bamus heaved a sign of relief and quickly left where he was hiding earlier, treading on through the deep darkness to where he had left his crew behind to shut the door and was disappointed to see no one else there for they'll have ran away with the loot in fear of being caught by the guard.

Seeing that none of his companions are here present and that they have all left him, running away in total apprehension with the loot they stole from the granary, Bamus immediately climbed over the fence in an hurry to make up for lost time. He wasn't furious at them because he knew the reason why they left him and he would simply go to their hidden underground home base where they had worn their black cloak that was fitted for each other one,. which was used to steal the loots inside the granary. He remembered as he walked on. in the darkness, anthat because of the unexpected guard who came outside suddenly without prior warning making them unable to set the granary ablaze which was part of the plan of phase 2 of, breeding fear and insecurities into the hearts of the public so that they would turn against the council members whom they had hoped would be the one to solve all the problems.

Bamus walked on. totally engulfed in the darkness as he treaded on a pathway that had few thick bushes at both ends. He kept going not mindful of how tired he was because his strength had been drained drastically to a deeper level and this could be very deadly for him if he doesn't consume any thing at that moment, he may fall unconscious, since he would not be able to withstand continuous loss of energy. He had strolled trudgingly past two Rabok who owns two shop and had almost entered into a main street before he collapsed

to the ground but was held by the two Rabok that already knew that he was gonna collapse because they deduce from his of movement that he was going to fall down sooner or later if they hadn't come to his rescue.

The two Rabok took him to their shop where he was given some small meal together with a large jar of water drawn up from a waterfall nearby. Bamus began feeling that his weak energy had rejuvenated and his dry throat now wet with water that had healing properties . They placed him on a flatbed and lit up torches which brighten up the room

"Are you feeling alright now?", One of the Rabok whose name was Nutty inquired as he gave Bamus another meal which Bamus accepted,

"Yes..., I...am fine now", Bamus stammered quietly,"Thanks for your helping me out with some of your meal and water", and asked,"What are you doing here in this desolated place? And who are you?",he inquired further,

"Well, as you can see,we are both Raboks and most of us were found in the central city before the plague drove a lot of us when it began to ravage the entire city. While some of us migrated to the northern section, I and Ticlux went to the western section of the city. The aftermath wasn't pleasant since the plague had taken away many lives including my parents and Ticlux own as well, leaving both of us to fend for ourselves which was tough and very hard but we pull through since we were dedicated and determined to succeed in the city. So now, we have built our shop using our own hands of sweat and preservance", Nutty replied while patting Ticlux head.

"Don't you have any desire to come back to central city in order to repair the harm done by the plague?", Bamus asked again,

"Not yet but I will come back there someday when things are already settled here", Nutty answered with a smile across his face, "What about you? Where were you coming from before you collapse?", Nutty questioned and sat on the bed

"I was coming from a very far with some companion of mine who left me stranded far back there. Although I knew where they would be, there was no other way than to travel by foot to get there", Bamus said and rested his head on the feathered pillow,"I would love to talk with both of you but I am in an hurry to leave so I will leave the next sunrise",

"Okay then, I'll let you go and also give you something that will make your travelling more easier for you", Nutty. replied and left the room together with Ticlux
