The five of us walked into an abandoned warehouse with our weapons ready. "Magnus' lair is right behind there." Jace said pointing.
"Magnus lives in a warehouse?" Clary asked
"Warlock glamour." I tell her
"Something's wrong its far to easy to get this close." Izzy says raining her hand
"His protective wards must be down." Jace predicted
"You." Alec says looking at Clary "Don't get in the way." He glares at her and she glares back.
We hear noises to our right and turn our heads to look a circle member is fighting a warlock and a little girl is standing to the side. "Oh, God! Valentine found Magnus." Clary says
I run over to the little girl as CLary runs up to the circle member and kills him, "daddy, daddy get up please." A man with a Seraph blade walks towards the girl but i kill him before he can reach her, i crouch in front of the girl.
"What's your name?" I ask her
"Zoe." She says sniffling
"That's a pretty name, it suits you... im Hayley." I tell her i pull her into a hug and lift her up "I wont let anything happen to you i promise."
"Hey." Izzy came running over to us "Stay close, its safest if we stay together."
"Now, lets get you to Magnus." I say
I walk slightly behind the others until we reach a door, we open it and see Magnus and some other warlock in the room.
"Magnus." I say putting the girl down and she runs over to Magnus and hugs him
"Go join the others my dear, this is no place for a little girl." The girl began to walk towards the others but looked back at Magnus halfway "Go"
"I heard what you did for Zoe." He tells Clary
"That's okay." Clary says
"Excuse me im right here as well." I tell him
"I know." Magnus says looking at me "I already knew you would save a warlock." He smiles at me and i smile back
He turns back to Clary "you risked your life without hesitation to save a young warlock child."
"She was just a little girl and she was in trouble, i had no choice." Clary says
"You always have a choice." Magnus explained "Your not like the others CLary Fairchild nor are you Hayley, most shadowhunters protect downworlders out of a sense of duty, but you saved young Zoey because of what was inside your heart." Magnus turns to look at CLary "you're more like your mother than you'll ever know."
"Magnus please, you cant hide from this battle." Clary told the Mags, "Valentine found you once he will find you again." Mags rolled his eyes "We need to work together, help me."
"I can summon a demon but you will have to make the demand." Mags paused for effect "Now, i warn you, retrieving your memories will not be easy."
"It hasn't been easy so far." Clary admits
"All right." Mags says "Were not safe here, the lairs location has been compromised." He explains "Hold tight everyone were about to move." He says
"Ah. Much better." He said our new location was his apartment overlooking the Brooklyn Bridge. "Ugh, its inevitable, after each move i get the itch to redecorate." He inform us "Normally, i love a dirty lair but this one is just sloppy." Mags smirks looking at Alec who just looks confused
"Mags you cant go stealing your friends man... its against the rules." I drawl
Mags looks at Izzy "I believe in payment for services rendered." He pulled out the ruby necklace "Thank you for defending the Warlocks."
"I couldn't." Izzy says as Mags fastens the necklace around her neck.
"Oh but you could and you should." He says as Izzy touches the ruby "The Lightwoods have been wearing this for years." He leaned in closer to the girl "Besides this would look silly on your brother." Izzy laughed. "About your brother is he more of a flower or a cologne man?"
"Magnus." I scold and he raises his hands in defeat
"Okay, so how do we summon this memory demon?" Clary asked changing the subject
"Are you certain?" He said walking up to her "Summoning such a powerful demon could be lethal."
"Ill do anything to save my mother."
"Okay." Mags nodded his head "Pretty boy get your team ready."
"You know what to do." Jace starts to walk forwards
"He not talkin bout you Jace." I say looking at Alec
"Come with me." Mags told me and Clary
He leads us to an empty room "Everyone wants the Mortal Cup, dont trust anyone especially the Clave."
"And why should i trust you?" Clary questioned
"You shouldn't." Mags started "Only trust yourself." He said handing CLary something leather
Clary untied the string and opened it to see coloured chalk "These chalks are beautiful, what are they for?"
"For a person who wants there memories to return they must draw the pentagram to summon the demon." Mags explains unfolding a piece of yellow paper. "I can walk you through it if you like."
Clary looked at Mags "I've got this."
"Ill be moral support." I tell them and Mags rolls his eyes and walks back out of the door
"Jocelyn was right.' Mags said as him and the others entered the room "You're artistry is beyond compare." I opened my mouth to say something but he cut me off "And your moral support was much needed." Mags sighs
"Thank you." I say "I'm very skilled."
Mags smirks "The only other person I've known who could draw as well as that was Michelangelo." Mags informed us "He was excellent in bed, i might add." Mags says smirking at Alec
"Mags i swear to God..."I start
"Shut up" Clary says cutting me off
"You know... the pentagram kinda looks like the mark Thor leaves on the ground when he leaves earth." I say
"Seriously." Clary sighs
Mags started to walk to the top of the pentagram. "Okay." He says rolling up his sleeves "There are only five place so one of you will have to it this out." He tells us
"I will." Alec says and we nod
"Were ready everyone take your rightful place on the pentagram." We each stand on one point on the pentagram im standing on the point between Clary and Mags. "We must initiate the bond.' Mags explains "Once the bond is sealed, it cannot be broke until the demon retreats, no matter what happens we must not let go of each others hands." Magnus held his hand out to Jace who jumped.
"You guys are pathetic." Izzy says holding her hand out to CLary, i join my hand with Clary and Mags and the bond is initiated.
"I will lead the ceremony, and all must do exactly as i say." Mags demanded "The demons name is Valak, and at some point he will ask for payment in exchange for Clarys memories."
"What do you mean?" Jace questioned "What kind of payment?"
Mags looked at Blondy "We will see, let us begin." Mags started speaking Latin or something
"The necklace." Izzy shouted "Its pulsing."
A black cloud appeared in the centre of the pentagram "Valak is among us, do not break the bond." I held onto Clarys hand tighter
"Hold on!" Jace shouted to CLary
"I'm trying." She yells back
The wind picked up in the room "It is time, the demon demands payment.."
"What does it want?" I asked Mags
"We must relinquish a memory of the one we love the most." An image was pulled out of Jace, Izzy and Clary when it got to me it pulled out an image of my little sister running up and hugging me, that was the day before she was killed, "No." I whispered, I pulled my hand from Clary breaking the bond the wind pushed us all back, i hit the wall and slid down it crying.
I looked up when i heard screaming the demon had grabbed Jace, Izzy and Alec were pulling him by the arms
"The demon is growing stronger." Mags said trying to contain the demon
"Clary, Hayley help us." Izzy yelled i stayed frozen but CLary grabbed a Seraph Blade
"Clary if you kill the demon, your memories will be lot forever." Mags said but CLary ran forwards and stabbed the demon causing the four of them near the demon to fall to the floor, i was still leaning against the wall tears silently falling down my cheeks.
"Jace." Clary said kneeling beside the unconscious Blonde "OhMyGod Jace."
"Jace get up." Alec said but he didn't move
"Is he gonna be okay?" I ask Mags as i get up from the floor
"I dont know, does he normally just lay like that without moving?" He says normally i would laugh but I didn't want to make the situation even worse, Clary glared at him
"Get up Jace." Alec said roughly
"Jace."
Jace gasped for air "Im alright." He breathed out "Im alright, im alright, I'm just getting my second wind."
"I'm sorry." I say wiping the tears of my cheeks "This is my fault i...i just... im sorry." I say as i back towards the door.
"This is your fault." Clary and Mags said
"Yes it is." I say looking at all of them "Its my fault Clary wont get her memories back, its my fault Jace almost got killed... its all my fault because i cant get over what happened 6 years ago." I say my voice trembling and i start to cry again, i run out of the room and go into the spare bedroom, i sit on the bed and keep crying.
Magnus' POV
"What happened?" Isabelle asked, CLary looked at me and nodded
"Hayley had a younger sister Shay, they were four years apart." I say looking at the shadowhunters "Six years ago a group of rogue shadowhunters showed up at the front door to the house, Hayley was home by herself looking after Shay and when she wouldn't open the door the three shadowhunters broke down the door." I look at CLary and she looks like shes about to cry "Hayley locked herself and Shay in the bathroom when the three rouge shadowhunters broke down the door they were to strong for her she killed one of them but then she got stabbed, they thought they killed her so they left her there and turned to Shay she was crying and Hayley watched the two shadowhunters kill her sister and run off and there was nothing she could do about it." I look towards Alec "She still blames herself for her sisters death."
"I didn't know." Izzy says looking at the floor
"I think you should go talk to her." I tell Alec he nods his head and starts to walk out the room "shes in the spare bedroom."
I look back to the others and see that they all sad
"Shes so happy all of the time though." Jace says
"Shes hides her pain, she doesn't want people to pity her and think shes fragile. She is a Herondale after all." I say
Back to Hayley's POV
I hear someone knock on the door
"Go away." I say
I look up and see Alec walk in anyway, he walks over and sits on the bed next to me
"Magnus told us." He says
"So he told you its my fault shes dead." I tell him
He puts his arm around me and i lean into him "Its not your fault." He says "You were young and plus your sister would be so proud to see what you have become a beautiful, strong, kind, brave woman." He says looking down at me
"Thank you, but can we talk about something else." I ask him
"Im always here if you need to talk." He says pulling me closer to him, i snuggle into his side and lean my head on his shoulder we sit in silence for a while
I look up at Alec he looks like he's about to say something but i press my lips against his, his surprised at first but then he deepens the kiss, he runs his thumbs along my cheeks wiping away the tears, i wrap my arms around his neck and he lifts me onto his lap so im straddling his waist. I break this kiss to catch my breath and he leans his forehead against mine.
"You need to sleep." He tells me, I stand up pulling him with "We should get back to the Institute the others are already there." I nod
I say goodbye to Mags and he makes a portal so we dont have to walk back to the Institute, Alec walks me to my door
"Goodnight." He says
"Night." I say kissing his cheek and walking into the room
I get dressed and fall asleep the second my head hits the pillow.
