Chereads / Abyss Mage / Chapter 41 - Prodigy

Chapter 41 - Prodigy

As soon as Gremory arrived in his room, he became obsessed with reading those notes until the end. The first mechanism of a rune is the mechanism responsible for the movement of mana because this process is essential for the activation of any rune.

As a result, Tier 1 runes are mostly useless, but the implications that higher Tier runes could impose on this world were too high for Gremory to simply ignore.

Before he could notice, the day had already dawned, and Vendryt was again calling them for another training day.

'The concepts of the first mechanism are simple, but now I need to test it.'

We followed him to another classroom since the previous one had been destroyed and again Vendryt activated the rune and everyone started to sit inside, letting themselves be carried away by the trance of the rune.

Gremory had not paid much attention to the runic inscriptions until now, but now he was studying the rune from afar. It had 4 circles which meant 4 mechanisms.

'This must be one of the complex runes created by a rune blacksmith.'

Yuno seeing that Gremory stayed behind asked Vendryt about his indiscipline.

"Master, Gremory is just watching." She said.

"He has already completed this training, so he will just be watching your training until all of you finish. If it bothers you then focus on finishing soon, it is shameful for descendants so close to the mainline to be overcome by a simple peasant." Vendryt spoke sincerely without giving a damn about Gremory presence in that room.

'As always, he makes sure to show his disdain for me, but it doesn't matter in the end.'

Gremory was not alone in this situation, Vendryt was an old man with a lot of respect for the power of the house and always addressed with respect when talking to Xander, Yuno, or Luther. Kiel and Mary were treated the same as Gremory.

Luther was as weak as the other two, so it implied that Vendryt's respect was directly linked to his lineage.

"Hey, I finished reading your Tier 1 rune notes, can I see Tier 2 runes notes now?" I spoke while approaching the chair he was sitting on, preventing him from sleeping.

"You did it already? Look, to be honest, I figured you were going to finish quickly, but I just delivered the notes to you yesterday, you will need to prove it to me." He spoke while grabbing what looked like a small glass crystal out of his pocket.

"What is it?"

"Oh, this? Sometimes I forget that there wasn't this kind of thing from where you came from. This is Mitre Crystal, a piece of it to be more exact. A Mitre Crystal is used a lot to store mana, from Tier 3 an enchanter can use it to create golems, and in Tier 4 he can break the crystal into multiple pieces for multiple golems with reduced strength. This process involves elementary conversion too, but I'll explain that later. " He spoke while grabbing a bag from his pocket with small Mitre Crystals.

"Okay, but what do I do with it then?"

"I want you to use the same concept of Tier 1 runes to store your mana in this crystal. Since it is just one process you don't even have to make any inscription, just move your mana."

Part of the reason why it was so easy for to Gremory to learn Tier 1 Runes is due to the mana manipulation process being no different from shadow manipulation.

Then, with the flowing lines of mana in his head, he just moved them to the Small Mitre Crystal. He started to vibrated until he got a color so dark that it seemed to suck the light from the environment.

Vendryt was brutally interrupted by the quick result while he was still speaking. "I brought these crystals for you to practice and don't worry about breaking them, because it is normal to break a lot of these Crystals in the beginn... How did you.. You are a prodigy!"

"This is it?" I replied a little confused by the surprise.

'Manipulating the mana lines is the same as manipulating the shadows, I think I got lucky to have experience already haha.'

"Wait here, boy, I'll be back." Vendryt said while he hurriedly left the room.

It only took a few minutes for him to come back with a huge book under his arms.

"You guys aren't allowed to pick up books from the library yet, but this one I took using my name because you deserved it. Here's everything you need to know about Tier 2 runes." He spoke as he placed the book on the table, the book was so big that the table trembled with its weight.

'He hates me, but his weak point is teaching, even though he wants my failure, he ends up helping... There are very strange people here.'

---

The days that followed passed without many surprises, the rest of the group trained their control over the flow of mana while I read and Vendryt slept. The concepts of Tier 2 involved the connection to Tier 1, which made everything twice as difficult. The notebooks that were handed to make notes were being filled out as fast as Gremory read.

Yet the content was so interesting that Gremory spent all his free time reading and still sacrificed his nights of sleep.

Gremory could skip sleep, but by doing that, his hunger grew faster. Even though he knew this, he was not able to hold back and soon became comfortable with the idea of testing Tier 2.

The training of control over the mana flow also had surprises. Everyone finished after 5 days which was the average, except for Xander who finished in 3, and for the next two days, he was staring at me as if I had done something against him.

The fifth day of training ended earlier and instead of receiving a break since everyone had successfully acquired control over the flow of mana. Vendryt decided it was time to move on to the next step.

"Now I am going to teach you conjuration, we are going to start with the most basic spell for a fire mage that everyone should be able to do while sleeping, FIREBALL!" Vendryt spoke while he handed each one a small book. "You have until tomorrow to decorate everything in this book! I recommend that you all use the night to study like your classmate always does, or you will be left behind."

'Damn it, I won't have time to study my other book now...'
