The intense aura generated by the cold together with the environment we were in, was forcing everyone to their limits to produce any kind of heat or flame.
Furthermore, the ice golens were shortening the distance with each second.
Xander was struggling just like everyone, but some sparks were seen in the air until a stream of fire came out of his hand hitting one of the ice golens.
When the stream of fire reached the golem, it exploded and spread around two other golens that were nearby, melting them.
It was a powerful attack, but as soon as its effect ended, Xander fell to his knees breathlessly.
"Come on guys, do something too" Xander spoke as he recovered his breath.
The others did not even bother to answer him while trying to resist the freezing atmosphere.
Even though it was difficult to conjure fire under such pressure and cold, with each passing second this difficulty only increased.
But then Yuno in the same way that Xander conjured a stream of fire, but much weaker, and after reaching the golem the explosion was small, killing only him and leaving her breathless in the same way as Xander.
Xander had already lifted from the ground and was trying again but in vain.
Despite having defeated 4 golens there were still a few dozen golems around us and more and more of them were climbing on the platform.
'The golens don't rush on us and are very weak against the fire element. I don't think it would be that hard to defeat them, but let's see what happens since I made a promise...'
But nothing else was conjured from them, the golens came close enough, and I freed up space for the fight by positioning myself behind them.
But they were completely helpless without magic, the moment they lost their distance they also lost their chance to win.
The golens massacred them with their massive strength.
The battle became one-sided with the so powerful mages now being crushed to the ground by multiple ice golens.
'Will anyone come here to help them?'
I look at the teacher who is sitting quietly in a chair, and everyone above us just looks with indifference.
The first to die was the short boy, Kiel, his face was totally disfigured on the ground.
But as soon as he died I could see that no black energy was released from his body.
'Is that runic power from the founder of the house?'
The next to die was Mary, her broken glasses now penetrated her skin.
The fat guy, Luther died just after her, with their guts sticking out of his body.
Xander tried to resist, but without the slightest force, his arms were broken on the first blow, and soon after his head was crushed.
Yuno tried to run but the cold atmosphere of all these golems slowed her movement a lot and without realizing it, she ran towards another golem that knocked her to the ground and killed her in the same way as with the others.
'I think I can help now, right?'
I conjure my short sword onto my hands and I use shadow evasion up.
Shadow evasion again and again and again, 10 times until reaching 50 meters high.
Standing at the same height as the people on the balcony of the castle.
From up there I cast the Mandrake Shield and again use shadow evasion repeatedly but this time pointing downwards while also leaning on a collision course with the ground.
I place the shield over my head which is now facing towards the ground.
The impulse generated by gravity in addition to shadow evasion put me at a very high speed.
Before I hit the ground I also activate shadow impulse on the shield.
---BOOOOOMMMMM----
Just like my allies' attack, mine also generated a huge explosion. The momentum of the shadow was as great as mine on the ground, releasing an explosion that encompassed the entire platform.
The blast's power decreased significantly over the range, but it was clear that these ice golens were not very tough compared to stone ones.
All the golens that were on the platform were destroyed, but so was the wooden totem too.
'Shit, I forgot about that'
And then finally Vendryt got up and lowered the bridge to the platform.
The fallen mage's bodies that were now in pieces due to the proximity to the explosion started to reconnect and regenerate at an unbelievable speed even for magic.
'So what Vendryt said was true after all, this is the power of an SSS rank mage! Unbelievable, I could have used something like that to save everyone from Tuska when they died...'
"What happened?"
"I thought I was dying"
"Did we won?"
They all came back confused with all the pieces of golems shattered around us.
"No, the totem was destroyed, so you lost your right to have breakfast today. Strive to earn lunch today!" Vendryt replied with a serious expression.
'All this for nothing? He can't be serious.'
"Hey, we literally died during this test. I think we deserve at least a quick snack" Luther spoke.
They were all stressed out by what happened and the hunger wasn't helping either.
"We were hungry before we started, and now you expect us to get better even though we're still hungry?" Mary spoke while picking up her broken glasses on the floor.
But Vendryt was just getting annoyed by the complaints.
"I decide what you deserve and what you should or shouldn't do. There is no point in feeding those who are of no use" He spoke.
That seemed pretty unfair even to me.
"Hey, we beat the golens at least" I spoke while staring at Vendryt.
"Your mission was to defend the totem for 10 minutes, not to defeat the golens. Now hurry up if you want to have lunch today, we'll have a long day" Vendryt answered.
