Chapter 38 - A New Game 5

The thought of leaving never cross his mind. Unlike being an operating system where he had been treated like a dog expected to do tricks every time he was commanded.

Indeed, kids are guided by their parents. Their environment forms their personalities. This was the phenomenon called growing up.

For Trex, he only grew old. He never had the experience of growing up. In contrast, he has the childhood of over ten people. For battles, he has the expertise of nine arcanists and one soldier, albeit a support one.

One reason he was so willing to call people around him as his parents are because he wanted to grow up.

'If I gain enough experience to turn theirs into mine, wouldn't that mean instead of possessing me, I learned from them.'

[Cross fighters ready?]

'I need to grow up faster, if I fear my own abilities as my enemies, I will never grow up.'

[3]

'The way I see things now, it needs to change. I'm not just a computer anymore who relies on what others did and copy them.'

[2]

'What I need now is to be able to discern what to do.'

[1]

'Something that only natural humans was able to do.'

[Fight!]

'The ability to decide for my own.'

With a sharp glint on his eyes, the moment he was able to move, an eight-runic spell circle appeared on his feet.

On the other side, Ben dashed with all his might.

Using the memories in his head, while the action seems to be similar, Trex could see the difference in Ben's current movement.

If earlier, there was a piercing intent to kill. Now there was apprehension. It was almost Ben feared Trex. Lacking the motive to kill, Trex knew Ben is trying to cancel his spell.

Unfortunately for him, the gap is enough for Ben to cast the eight-runic spell. Bren Draec was a tier two spell caster, after all.

When Ben closed the gap between him and Trex, lightning began to crackle all around the two.

If Ben wasn't a fragment of a previous player, he would've cussed out.

Regardless, the apprehension in his eyes grew more apparent, but his action remained the same.

Or so he thought.

Just before Trex could release the spell, Ben's sword began to glow.

The fight ended way too fast on the first round that Trex failed to know what exactly Ben's specialization was.

Swiftly, he aimed the sword on the floor, which began to crack and erode.

It didn't take time for Trex to understand what kind of mojo Ben used. It was a mojo in the form of a gem that can be socketed on a cold weapon—earth tremors.

The ground began to break and shake as the lightning was slowly devoured by the earth.

A common physics occurrence where lightning disperses at the ground.

Still, Trex continued to cast the thunder round spell. It was clear to him that Ben failed to understand exactly what kind of spell Trex used.

Unlike the fighter, the spectator completely saw what had transpired. Illana understood what happened.

During casting, the lightning field spell and the thunder round spell have the same initial effects that spark the floor.

The difference is that after casting, the lightning field creates an electrified area that buffs the user. The thunder round spell is different. Inside the site, whenever the caster casts a spell, it muffles the sound with loud thunder.

While both are utility spells, the effects are different, and so are the weaknesses.

If it was a lightning field, then the electrified floor would've been cleanly dispersed by the tremors of the land. Unfortunately, thunder round works differently as it creates lightning spheres that shoot down to the ground as thunderous roars flood the space.

Since it doesn't have to electrify the ground, the tremors don't affect Thunder Round in any capacity.

Immediately after casting, three runic spell circles appeared right after the other as ice bolts flew towards Ben.

*Boom*

*Boom*

As Ben realized his blunder, he quickly focused his vision as the sounds of thunder reverberated in the entire arena. There was no way to point where the spells were summoned.

*Boom*

Ben trembled. The ice bolt hasn't even landed yet, but there was already another magic thrown.

*Boom*

At this time, Ben was shocked. Not literally, though. He could only see two ice bolts, but there was another sound that appeared out of nowhere.

*Boom*

*Boom*

He hasn't even finished his thoughts when another two peals of thunder roared.

Seeing that the ice bolt was about to hit him, he swung his long sword cutting the ice into shards. Unable to see anything from his front, he used the momentum of his swing to turn around.

There he saw tendrils of shadow aiming at his back.

His sword glowed once more as silver light parried the shadowy tendrils. It was the other gem slotted at the other side of the guard. Arcanic Parley. The tendrils of mana quickly countered and disappeared with the shadow spike spell from Trex.

Ben screamed as he kneeled down. It was another ice bolt that hit the back of his ankle.

It was then, after half a second, the space on top of Ben distorted and formed a silhouette of a man. In the silhouette's hand is a floating runic orb currently trembling as it was being over-drafted.

The moment the trembling orb hit Ben in the head, he dispersed into the air.

["Waiting for another player.']

This time, in only a little over 12 seconds. Trex won.

In the first four seconds, he cast Thunder Round.

Another two seconds is where Ben attempted to counter.

In the next second, Trex shot out two ice bolts.

With the aid of the runic orb, he cast shadow spike in a second, flick in two seconds, and hexed his entire body, including the runic orb, for another second.

The last-second was Ben dispersing into particles.

It was unbelievably fast.

Even though Illana managed to see everything, it was another thing about comprehending what just happened.

The combinations of spells that Trex had used were something she has never seen anyone else do before. Especially with how clean, precise, and calculated each strike was.

Suddenly, Illana grinned from ear to ear. Her blood was boiling as she pulled out a card from her ring.

It was a Cross Arena card.
