I finished the song and Nathaniel looks at me with wide eyes, mom was tearing up and Silvia was crying. I looked at everybody confused Nathaniel sits down quietly. His eyes sparkling.
"Why are you guys crying? Jax. Why did you make me sing?"
"What were you thinking of?"
"Well this song was writen with the inspiration of my father leaving, it was a sad time so I thought about something sad." Nathaniel didn't break his line of sight on the seat infront of him. He started biting his lip. Mom stoped crying and said we arrived.
We arrived at the coffee shop and got out of the vehicle. Nathaniel was lost in thought and didn't listen or see anything around him. I got frustrated and left with my parents to find a seat in the coffee shop. I look back and Nathaniel is leaning against the car, taking off his jacket.
I yell his name and our eyes connect. He smiles and starts to run toward me only to be knock down by a man who was running.
Worried I leaped toward Nathaniels direction to see if he was alright. The boy Nathaniel bumped into was young and had brown hair with light hazel eyes. He was shorter than me and had a small build but Nathaniels eyes were fixated on his.
The boy was underneath him, and Nathaniel stood up to help him. I watched them exchange numbers and smile at eachother. I yell his name again and yell schedule to remind him we have a time limit.
Nathaniel catches up with me and had an obnoxious look on his face. "Barf, wipe that look off your face before I slap it off you." Nathaniel looks at me rudely and sticks out his tongue. "You're such a child." I laugh.
Me, mom, Silvia and Nathaniel found a table for four. The meal was mostly mom, telling embarrassing storys about me when I was a child to Nathaniel, and he seemed to enjoy all of them. I didn't feel embarrased, mostly happy because my moms were, but I still didn't want Nathaniel to know about my childhood and all of the stupid and the embarrasing things I did.
He laughed at everystory but during the pauses he was lost in thought like he was in the car. I found myself thinking about Nathaniels look on his face when he met that boy. I didn't feel it but at the back of my mind I knew I was a little jealous. But I'd never admit it.
It was 8:10 and mom made me and Nathaniel pack everything up while she and her wife payed. I glanced at Nathaniel while he picked up his and Silvia meals. He was being productive but he had no expression.
"What are you feeling?"
"Obscured."
"Why?"
"I can't figure out a way to get better." He says vaguely. I didn't question him any longer. I just wanted to confirm that he wasn't thinking of the boy.
My parents come back and we get into the car. Silvia takes the wheel and my mom looks at the schedule. "Get there in twenty minutes." She says to Silvia. The ride was silent, I put on my songs still looking for some feedback, but Nathaniel didn't have anything to say.
When we arrived, as said on the schedule, we were at a mini-golf park. We had two hours of fun, I was partners with Nathaniel, and Meredith, my mom, was partners with Silvia.
With 100 levels, me and Nathaniel were demolishing my parents. We caught severals hole in ones and Silvia didn't know how to play, so it was easy to win. Nathaniel and I were having fun but there was the occasional times were Nathaniel would space out. The truth is that him spacing out while were suposed to be celebrating my birthday was making me angry.
When we won, I grab Nathaniels arm and I drag him to the bathroom. Nathaniel isn't surprised about my outbursts anymore. "What did I do now?" Nathaniel asks laughing.
"What the hell is so important that you have to space out and looking like a zombie."
"You really have a way with words don't you. If it's that important to you it's about my career and how I can make my voice influence others like you can." I smile, and shake my head.
"Honestly you should've just asked me, I love what my mom is doing but I like talking about music and thinking about ways to make our success, more than I like groupe activity's like this one."
"Thanks now that I know you'll help me I can relax and enjoy the rest of the day."
"Wait can't we talk about music a little more, I said I liked that more than-"
"Groupe activity's I know, but your mom made a perfect schedule and I'm not going to ruin it because of you." Nathaniel left the bathroom and I followed behind him. We stopped at where my parents were and they had already packed everything. I grabbed the bags my mom was carrying and Nathaniel grabbed Silvia's.
We dropped them off in the trunk of the car and I hopped in the passengers seat, while Nathaniel took the wheel.
"You have GPS right?" Nathaniel asked my mom worried. Meredith shook her head yes and set it up for our next destination. I read it and it says, Mojito's. I light up at the name and look at my mom. She shakes her head smiling and blows me a kiss. I grab the schedule from my moms hands and look at it. We're scheduled to stay at Mojito's for four hours and I suddenly get excited.
"Nathaniel Jax! My dead Grandma can walk faster than your driving. Hurry up!" Nathaniel sneers at me and speeds up. He looks at me and smiles. "Fast enough for you? Snowball?"
"Yeah. I can't wait to go to Mojito's, you're gonna love it."
