Chapter 1 - One.

Chris sat at his desk in class while taking notes on the day's lesson. He was mindlessly writing when he felt a wave of muffled fear casted over him and pressure set on his chest. It was his soulmate again, the same feeling as always.

Everyday he would feel the same three things, fear, pain, and sadness. You see when you have a soulmate bond you are able to feel their emotions but not as strong as they do.

Meaning, if your soulmate we feeling happy then you in turn would feel the same but muffled with pressure on your chest. The stronger the emotion the more pressure.

Chris wished he could feel the happiness instead of this. He wants his soulmate to be happy and feel safe, if only he knew who they were.

A soft touch was felt on his waist, almost as if a ghost were holding it. This is something his soulmate would do when they were scared or anxious.

He has grown accustomed to the feelings and touches throughout his life, but something about today didn't sit right with him.

He raised his hand, asking to go to the infirmary on campus, before grabbing his things and running out of the door. As he walked through the campus he plugged in his headphones and turned on his calming music. One thing he's learned was when he listened to certain music it helped him focus on that rather than his soulmates emotions.

His feet had carried him to his group's favorite hangout spot near their college. They would all hang there on their off periods or when class was over. Today it looks like Peter and Sam were there being lovey-dovey as usual.

"Can you two not flirt for like 5 minutes? Please?" Chris said as he sat down on the picnic table with the couple.

Both of them giggled as Sam leaned her head onto her boyfriend's shoulder, "Oh Chris, you're just mad we are in love and you haven't found your soulmate yet."

Chris scoffed at the younger girl, "ya know if you weren't a girl I would've smacked that little smirk off your face."

Sam bursted out laughing, clutching her sides dramatically. Peter on the other hand winced as he could feel her digging her nails into her skin.

"Why is the hyena laughing so hard," a voice said from behind the three, "and why does Chris look like he wants to commit homicide?"

"Oh hey James!" Peter said with a smile, "well Sam made a joke about Chris not finding his soulmate so..."

James rolled his eyes as he sat down next to Chris, "Don't worry buddy, you'll find your soulmate soon."

"Yeah, whatever," Chris muttered, "where's Lix?"

"He got held up talking to the professor so he should be here any—"

"I hate algebra!"

A fed up looking Felix interrupted, slamming down an algebra textbook on the table. Papers were shoved inside and little sticky notes were poking out of the book, signifying that it was being used.

"Who the fuck thought it was a good idea to shove letters into math?!" Felix exclaimed as he sat down with a pout.

"Let me guess, you didn't get a good grade on your midterm?" James asked as he held Felix's hand in an attempt to soothe him.

Felix nodded as he stared down at the book in front of him, "I study my ass off and for what? To get a 85 on the midterm?"

"Well look at the bright side, you still passed the test!" Peter said optimistically, "and besides, it means you can work on the sections that you missed for the final."

Peter had a point, Felix had to admit, "I just hope I actually make it to the final cause at this rate I'm going to drop out!"

"Over my dead body!" Chris said as he slammed his hand on the table, "mom and dad would have both our asses if you did!"

The table erupted in giggles before they changed the subject. Chris tried his best to remain focused but his soulmate's pain was making it hard to. His arms and thighs were stinging and he felt lightheaded.

As soon as he felt like he might pass out from the pain, it just stopped. Almost all of the pressure left his chest and the stinging was nothing but heat.

"Sky!" Sam called out for her best friend and waved to her. Sky looked like she always did, blank face with puppy like eyes. She smiled at everyone as she stood at the end of the table.

"Hey guys," she says as she pulls her sleeves over her hands, "I can't stay but I thought I'd say hi before I head home."

Chris felt saddened by the fact that she wasn't going to stay and hang out but he brushed it off, "I can walk with you if you want?"

Sky hesitantly nodded before waving the group goodbye. Chris stood up and started to walk with her.

They were silent halfway through the walk, both not really knowing what to speak about. It wasn't an awkward silence by any means, but it also wasn't exactly comfortable. Well at least for Chris.

"So, did you have a good day?" He asked shyly.

"I guess you could say that," Sky responded with a nervous laugh.

It indeed was not a good day for her but she wasn't going to tell him that. Chris chuckled as he looked up at the sky. The sun was starting to set, the once clear blue sky was replaced with a beautiful ombré of yellows and pinks.

"The sky looks kinda like sherbet," Chris said with a giggle, "makes me kind of hungry."

Sky smiled as she looked at the ground, making sure not to step on the cracks in the sidewalk. The boy couldn't help but smile at the cuteness the other radiated. Something about her just made his heart feel warm and full.

As they approached her house the brunette boy couldn't help but feel sad about leaving her. Sky also felt this way, but again, she wouldn't tell him that.

"Thanks for walking with me Chris," she says with a warm smile, "We should do this again sometime."

"Yeah, definitely!"

As she waved good bye her anxiety only rises as she walked closer to the front door. She knew what would await her once she opened that door. Chris on the other hand, he just watched her walk away in fondness, unaware of her anxious steps.

"I'll see you tomorrow!" he said as she stepped inside the house. She waved back at him and closed the front door.
