Chapter 31 - Old Lines Crossed

From the line of Titus. From the line Aace. There was Isaac. He was a happy kid, always playing fair and just. He worked hard in Rodnest, becoming well known for his statecraft and by rumor, magical ability, especially at such a young age. After Hannibal the Tyrannical destroyed Rodnest, the remaining survivors went into hiding. After Hannibal's death, the survivors rebuilt Rodnest. They decided on a larger city, not a village. The city became well renowned for its beauty and trade location. Symphonia was rebuilt and became a bastion of musical learning. Academy was renovated and devoted to the pursuit of knowledge. The Knight's Company became the Council of Knights and ruled in the absence of true king and successor to Aace. Sir Christopher, in his twilight years, left Graiigreald from Sillsing to the Dragon Isles and has not been heard from since then.

Isaac went into the woods to collect firewood. He thought about the old story of King Aace and his crusade against Hannibal the Tyrannical. He thought of how Graiigreald was ruled by the Council of Knights, the old generation teaching the new. In his thinking, he wondered unto the Misted Lake. From the bank he looked across, seeing a headstone and a sword perfectly balanced on top. Intrigued, he swam over to see what the headstone said. It read, "Here lies King Aace the Unifier of Graiigreald, Great Challenger of King Failer, liberator of the people from Hannibal the Tyrannical, Lord Knight of the Knight's Company." He then read the inscription of the prophesy: "No wind can sway it. No earthquake can knock it down. No man can wield it. It shall move when evil returns and so it shall be wielded only by the one who is just."

Isaac was intrigued by the inscription, and decided to try and lift the Sword. When he grabbed it a bright wave of light flashed over him. He then went into a trance, seeing remnants of Titus' fight with Cromwell at Servinsrad, Aace's victory at the Siege of Draconia, his defeat of Lord Pierre during the Night of Chaos. He saw their families, their lives, and then it was known to him. He was descended from both Titus and Aace. When he came out of the trance, the globe-like orb of the pommel of the hilt was shining with emence brilliance. He felt as if he could lift a thousand dragons. Overexcited, he ran home, telling the people of Rodnest what had happened. An old mage named Sorincrad came to him to inspect his mind. He found only a burning passion of justice, a will to do what was right. As a well-read scholar, he new that this ment the evil had returned. He took Isaac in, teaching all he new before the evil revealed itself.

In the depths of the ruined city of Dragonrock, a baby was born. A small band of villagers settled in the ruins. They set up their altar to their god. It was a bust of Cromwell from the Age of Kings. The boy was born on the worship day, and thus was titled, Fredrick the Cruel. Little did they know of the extent of his cruelty. He was a child opposite from Isaac. He was cruel, cunning, brutal, chaotic, and evil. His own parents cursed his name and wished every ill they could upon them. He granted their wishes, reveling in his murderous behavior. He earned his namesake.

The Chief Priest in the Cult of Cromwell, Mortimer, took Fredrick in to mold him into the true successor of King Cromwell. They began with magic, restoring Dragonrock Castle to it's full glory. They trained with sword and axe and bow, and Fredrick honed every skill. His evil actions were rewarded. His evil was beyond a mere child. The Cult took to calling him "heir to the void," and "Dark Child." They were molding a master of evil, not a priest. The mages of Graiigreald were wrong to not fear them. Fredrick then spoke a warning to Graiigreald, a promise to the cult:

"Their cities will burn. Their people will die. Chaos will ensue, slavery will take root, and evil shall grow out of even the purest of hearts."

The Cult then responded with,"All hail the Dark Lord!"
