Chapter 4 - 3 - Closer

The final bell of the day has rung. Rick stood up and walked over to Lisa.

"Hey, I can bring you home? I have motorbike," he said blatantly in broken English.

"N-no, thank you. My mom is picking me up," she said back.

I looked at him in the eyes giving him a look. "Seriously?". He looked at me and sighed.

I ordered another online taxi and drove towards the supermarket. I just got a text from my mom asking me to buy groceries when I'm finished with school.

After purchasing a couple of vegetables and ingredients, I ordered an online taxi to drive me home.

When I arrive, I jumped out of the bike and paid the driver, and I saw a car going past my house. And it stopped right next to me. I heard from my mom that we got ourselves a new neighbor. So I waited to see what the neighbor is like.

And then the passenger door opened up. And I saw a person with long black hair stepping out of the car, and at that moment I just couldn't believe it.

SHE'S MY NEIGHBOR!? I thought

"Huh? Sam? You live here?" Lisa was as surprised as I was seeing her in my neighborhood.

"H-hi! I-I guess you're my neighbor!" I then said to her.

Something is going on… something weird is undoubtedly going on right now. First, she appeared in my school, a one in a million chance it could've happened. And then suddenly she's sitting here with my family, eating dinner! If today I pulled out a lottery, I might've won.

"EHH!? You're Lisa!? THAT LISA!?" my mom was shouting; she was stunned. She then looks at me, and I could already see her evil grin. "So… what are you into these days?" she asked.

Lisa finished her chewing first and then said, "I've been doing a few song covers."

"She's great, ma! I saw her doing all the guitar and drums," my little sister, Lara, filled in.

"Oh… I can see why Lara has taken an interest in you. You know, she'll be going to an art school next year, so why don't you teach her sometimes? I'll pay for the lessons," my dad said to her.

"I will, but you don't have to pay me for it…" she embarrassingly said; she looked cute.

"Ah… it's alright! It's like mowing the lawn, except you're teaching,"

And afterthought, she nodded, and we continued eating.

I walked her to the door. And then, when we got out, she stopped and turned around.

"Thanks for having me; your family was really nice," she said.

"Oh, don't mention it. I'm glad you came for dinner with us". I told her. And then we looked towards her house and see that the lights were still off.

"Do you want to take a walk? Maybe when we get back your parents will arrive".

We walked the quiet and empty neighborhood, with the bright moon shining above our heads. I didn't really know what to say, but honest to god, I'm still in shock at the fact that she is here. My heart is beating like never before, and I can feel the sweat pouring down my body on a windy night.

If this moment was captured on tape, I would rewind it every time to never end.

"So," I finally asked something, "How's the school over there?"

She looked at me, and I had the sudden urge to flinch away, but I held my ground and try to make eye contact. She's like kryptonite, but I'm a dumb Superman who's addicted to the pain that it gives.

"Well… nothing really, except that a lot of our friends after you left are gone. But other than that, it's the same old school,"

Her hands wrapped together as she walked, I saw her shivering a bit from the windy air. I took off my jacket, and I put it on her; well, easier said than done. At first, I was just offering it to her, and when she said the word, I insisted on putting it on for her.

We finally arrived back in front of her house. And it seems like the lights were set on, and her car has been parked in the parking space.

"Thanks for everything; you really helped me today," she said to me before returning the jacket. And then a clip of memory appeared in my mind.

"Hey Sam, can you help me with this math question?" Lisa, who was in third grade, asked.

"Uh… I can't help you, maybe ask Ken for the answers?" I, who was a dumb third grader, said.

And I saw her walking towards him, and he showed her the steps. At that time, I felt nothing, but now that I look back, maybe there was something that we could've done together.

"Uh… Sam?" present Lisa asked,

"Oh uh… your welcome. We're old friends, aren't we? I'm happy to help you anytime," I answered.

I took my jacket from her, we each said our goodbyes, and we went few meters apart to our homes.

I opened my door and walked straight into my room upstairs. I closed the door behind me and jumped straight into bed. Then I turned around and stared at the wall, where Lisa's house would be behind this wall.

If her room is behind this wall… I thought.
