Edmond was looking for Jay everywhere. They need to have a talk. Coming up to the roof top, he found Jay smoking cigarettes while looking over the horizon in deep thoughts.
Edmond approaching Jay: "Can I have a cigarette?"
Jay was surprised seeing him there: "Are you allowed to smoke? I bet your doctor strongly advised you not to."
Edmond trying to make the mood lighter: "True, but my doctor is not here, right. I won't tell if you won't."
Jay was annoyed. Edmond knew how he feels about the situation and yet here he is trying to be funny but not funny. In a mocking tone, he replied:
"Why did you live. You should have just died with heart attack. It'll be easier for everybody that way."
Edmond sensed Jay's anger. He responded in a serious tone:
"I should have.... I wanted to... but I didn't. I guess I still have a purpose to continue to live.
