(Authors Note< Hey guys, I don't know who's reading this but just so you know this is my first book and as an amateur writer. I would appreciate if you can tell me about any grammer mistakes I've created when I write this book.
Main character< Scarlett pov.
Winds blew the scorching heat and sand across the already barren land. Despite the fact there was an explosion in the backround, gunfire ringing through the air, and shouts from below telling people to move. Everything wasn't going to bad for Scarlett as she listened to her commanding officer yell out orders to retrieve enemy supplies. The heat crashed down on her in heat waves (she was already quite used to this), and her A-K 47 was in her hands pointing at the enemy hostages to prevent them from running.
Meanwhile, her mind was going through what she was going to do after she was done with this 3 week mission. Oh God, how much she wished she could get into a shower and just scrub the desert off of herself.
"Liutenant Hawthorne!" her commanding officer suddenly called out.
Shit. She almost didn't respond to the new name. Honestly forging new identities for her friends and herself was definitely gonna take some time to get used to. Turning her body to face her superior without taking the aim off the enemy.
She replied "Yes, Sir?!" in a her best version of a tough and soldier like voice.
"You'll be taking a break after this mission. You have not taken a vacation in the 5 years you've been here. As one of this teams best soldiers I don't want you over extending yourself. Do you understand Liutenant?"
Disguising herself and her friends into the most remote part of the army, and then forging them all new ID's had taken a lot of effort on her part. She could definitely use a vacation but was concerned about what would happen if she left even for a short period of time. As one of the best workers on her team she had a lot of advantages but it came with quite a lot of baggage. Like caring for the physical, mental, and emotional health of her team. She couldn't even count anymore the amount of times her close calls had saved someone's life at the last minute. Most of the soldiers there looked up to her and gave her respect since most of them were the ones saved last minute. A bomb expert, a hacking genius, and a translator for most of the citizens living in this remote place.
She heaved a sigh and responded with her only choice. "Yes, Sir I will definitely do so after this recon mission."
The commanding officer gave her a nod. "Move them to the vehicles," he gestured towards the people she still held at gun point, " And make sure to securely restrain them until they can be interrogated by our people. Then you are free to start your break."
"Yes, Sir!"
She advanced forward to start securing the prisoners. Making sure there was no way that any of them could possibly slip out of their restraints. This wasn't the time to underestimate her opponent since they were all part of the alleged terrorist organization called KEVA. What the letters stood for she didn't care and the name was stupid anyhow. Who names one of the most frightening terrorist groups in the world KEVA? Like so unoriginal.
As the prisoners were being securely loaded into vehicles that would take them all to separate military bases to be interrogated. A man who was next in line to be loaded broke his restraints and tackled the soldier restraining him. Successfully taking the soldiers gun while he was at it. Other people who were not holding onto someone started trying to pull the prisoner off. Suddenly a loud gunshot rang through the air.
Blood started pooling beneath the soldier being tackled. Apparently the terrorist had shot the soldier with his own gun. Scarlett rushed forward pushing past the other men trying to take hold of the situation. Reaching the center she witnessed something she should've checked when they first started restraining the terrorists. The terrorist had strapped onto his body a bomb and in his left hand the gun of the fallen soldier with his right the trigger to the bomb. Scarlett immediately knew that this man's intention was to kill everyone here in the name of KEVA. Gripping onto the A-K 47 and without hesitation aimed for his head in order to not trigger the bomb.
"Everyone! Hold your fire!" my commander yelled, then addressing the terrorist, "What do you want?!".
"In the name of KEVA! I will die and take you nonbelievers with me!" cackled the freaking suicidal terrorist. He gripped the detonator in his hand and was just about to press the button. Then suddenly the second gunshot rang off.
Scarlett was obviously watching the whole event with one thought running in her head. If no one moves now we're all going to die. Which lead to the terrorist being shot in the wrist by none other than Scarlett herself. The shot rang off so suddenly that everyone just froze for a second as Scarlett tackled the terrorist. Restraining him in chokehold as she tore the bomb off the man's body without causing it to go off.
Most of everyone felt immediate relief at seeing the threat taken care of so quickly and securely. Had the man taken everyone down with the bomb many of them would not be seeing their families again. Another thing to be grateful to the Liutenant for.
One person was livid though for having a soldier ignore their orders. Even though Liutenant Hawthorne was one of the most obedient soldier's she still ignored a command from her superior. That was not gonna slide this time.
"Liutenant Hawthorne! What did I just tell you to do?! I specifically told everyone to hd their fire. But what did you do?" The commanding officer suddenly yelled after the threat was taken care of.
"Sir! I fired against your orders, sir!" Scarlett responded.
"That is a court martial waiting to happen! How would you like to be demoted?!"
"Sounds pretty bad, Sir!" Scarlett decided on saying, knowing full well that despite this being against her commanding officer's orders it was necessary. Obviously she could've just tackled the guy but risk being to late and getting everyone killed any way. The shot stopped him from being able to use the detonator. Then when she attacked him while everyone was shocked it was perfect to catch him off guard and off balance. It ended with almost perfect results and it could've been worse.
Now the amount of disregard of the situation set the commanding officer off. Yelling he said " PRETTY BAD LIUTENANT? PRETTY BAD? I'LL HAVE YOU KNOW THAT THIS INCIDENT IS TO BE REPORTED WHEN WE GET BACK TO BASE!"
'Wow, that was pretty damn loud' thought Scarlett ' and there goes my vacation.' Silently crying inside as she took the ride home with the rest of the group. All of them giving her a pitying gaze but not a one could help her until the hearing. She let out a tired sigh as something foretelling was nagging her gut that this was not gonna go well.
