AKARI
The first part of the ride is silent.
Lt. Song is carefully tending to the younger kid's wound. The kid squirms from time to time, but tries his best to stay still. His older brother, Adrian, is watching closely. The rest of us are simply watching it all unfold.
I get to thinking. What have these two brothers gone through? How did they end up in the streets? How much have they suffered? Why did they choose to not get help?
I'm too unknowing of the world, I realize. Never before have I encountered an orphan in distress, never before have I tried to understand their situations. All this time I assumed that everyone just goes willingly to the orphanages, where they live happily. Never have I imagined there could be more to their stories. I've been so blind all this time.
