Again, I couldn't sleep.
Sitting in my room, I looked at the Moon.
I opened the window and the cool wind brought with it the scent of roses.
Putting on a robe, I left the room and headed towards the library.
Passing by the rooms, along a long corridor, I suddenly felt that someone was following me. Turning around, I saw Edelweiss.
"Professor, I hope I didn't wake you up," he whispered.
"No. I didn't even hear you."
"I was just reading poetry a little loud."
"It's all right."
"Why don't we go for a walk? The moon shines very beautifully in the sky today," he said.
"I was just about to go into the garden."
Another feature of this house was that the moonlight could be in almost every room. And as we went downstairs, I saw a gentle silver light in the living room. Everything was sparkling.
The first thing that came to my mind was that Leon would have found beauty in this light.
"How beautiful it is," Edelweiss whispered.
I silently headed towards the door and as soon as I went out, as the cool wind made me feel drowsy.
Tall trees, in complete silence, kept the secrets of the stars in the sky. And for a moment, I even heard the voice of the owl.
Everything around was filled with mystery.
But this world is not as mysterious as Leon.
Is he going to disappear forever without letting me solve any of his secrets?
For a while, we walked silently forward.
And when I sat down on the bench among the flowers, he said, "While everyone is happy, I, on the contrary, still suffer. And maybe you do, too. Professor, can we not be as happy as everyone else?"
"I have always asked myself this question. But soon, happiness for me became, just a fleeting phenomenon. And I just stopped thinking about it."
"Perhaps we are the people who do not belong to this world. We will always be sad, just as before."
I looked at him, but instead of his eyes, I saw Leon's eyes.
"Live and don't think about difficult things. You're young. So, just go ahead. Don't be sad," I said, still looking into the dark green eyes.
The next day, as expected, Eva threw a party.
No sooner had the music started to play, everyone started to dance and laugh. And they didn't care that almost the whole room was empty.
I noticed that Eva had a beautiful, green dress today.
But really, this color haunts me everywhere.
"I saw you in the garden last night. You should keep an eye on your sleep. Also, you look tired," she said.
"Too many thoughts."
"Where's your new friend? I think he looks like your other friend."
"I don't like to compare people and try to find similarities," I said and walked up to the window.
"Professor, can I invite you to dance?" she suddenly asked and reached out to me. "I know it's weird. But now everything has changed. If a person wants something, he or she will pursue it. Now, there are no boundaries."
"I don't think you're going to like dancing with me."
"Let me fulfill my little dream."
Once we were in the middle of a spacious room, as everyone followed our example.
Classical music began to play, and we, celebrating eternal and happy life, began to whirl by the light of the candles.
Eva, in my arms, felt almost weightless. And to my surprise, I turned out to be a good dancer.
"Professor, you know that I love you," she whispered into my ear.
As I continued to dance, I didn't know what to say.
"But don't be afraid, I know you don't need love. But I want to know what you need. What your soul dreams of."
"I will confess to you too. I don't know what my soul is dreaming about."
"You know, you need to go in search of him," she suddenly said, thereby surprising me.
I pretended I didn't understand what she was talking about.
"Without him, you look as if you are lost. And I think the reason for your insomnia is in him."
"Are you saying I'm in love with him?"
"No. It's not love. You can't waste time on such a simple and important thing as love. But I know that you are experiencing something different to this person. Maybe, he is just your soulmate," she said and stopped by the window.
For the first time, I noticed that she had very sad eyes and felt guilty that the reason for her sadness may have been in me.
Raising her eyes up, Eva looked at the moon and the stars. And at that moment, I wanted to understand her like never before. After all, in these eyes, there were millions of stories.
"Professor, I want you to be happy. I don't want you to be sad. Is my dream too unattainable?"
"People, dreaming of many things, have forgotten about the most important ones," I whispered.
"But you don't forget the most important thing," she said in response and slowly, elegantly, walked toward the people.
"Skyemoone! Tell us a little bit about yourself!" Camellia exclaimed.
"Well, no! Let the professor remain a secret for us. Otherwise, life will get boring," Claude said and laughed loudly.
"I haven't had a vacation like this for a long time. How happy I am now!"
"May, you've been saying that since yesterday. We know you're happy."
"Why don't we go to the garden?! Look at the sky! How many stars!"
"Professor, are you coming?"
The brilliance of evening dresses, the rustling of foliage, the smell of flowers and hundreds of stars, all this swirled before my eyes.
By the light of the little lanterns that surrounded the gazebo, everyone sat and looked silently at the sky. I thought that's it, happiness.
I was pleased to see people who finally found harmony and were not afraid of anything anymore.
As I calmed down, I closed my eyes and took a deep breath.
Soon, Claude began to talk about his life, and I, unnoticed by all, got up and headed towards a small forest.
And when the voices disappeared in the distance, I realized that I was too far away from everyone.
Suddenly, I wanted to climb a tree, as I did as a child.
Taking off my jacket and shoes, I began to climb a high tree.
Despite the darkness, I could see everything and soon, I was already high enough to lean against the tree and remember my childhood.
But often, I was sitting on a tree, falling asleep, and then Joseph had to look for me everywhere.
The cool wind and rustling of foliage began to soothe my thoughts, until I fell completely asleep.
It was a short dream, and when I woke up, I felt someone's presence nearby.
I looked around, and all of a sudden, I saw someone.
And I immediately had Leon in my head.
Looking at the silhouette in the darkness, I quickly descended from the tree.
A man stood among the bushes, right in front of me.
"Leon," I whispered and proceeded to go forward. But when I moved, suddenly I felt someone's hands on my back.
I couldn't turn around to see who it was. Because the next thing I remember is that I felt very dizzy.
Consequently, I passed out and when I woke up, there was no one around.
It was Leon. There was no doubt about that. Because I noticed there was a little envelope on my jacket.
Grabbing this, I looked around and quickly headed towards the house.
Running past people, I quickly found myself on the second floor and soon, in my room.
Having quickly opened the envelope, I began to read the letter.
It was Leon's handwriting. But I had to read the letter several times to understand it.
And when I realized, I suddenly felt funny and at the same time, I felt an unprecedented desire to go to where he was all this time.
