"Damn!" Serenica cursed.
They found a wobbly bridge over the river nearby, but they did lose quite a lot of valuable time and they had now alerted the chief with their rash actions.
At least they now knew that the chief was up to no good. They spent all day following his tracks in the jungle, but the man knew how to cover up evidence of his presence.
Finally, just a moment before the sun went down and put an end to their efforts, the future chief caught a glimpse of something that looked like a piece from the clothes of the man.
They went further, as now the footprints were clear again, and came to a gruesome sight.
A big panther, bigger than Serenica would have imagined even the most ferocious of them to be, was tearing into the throat of the chief.
"Damn!" Serenica cursed again. She fired a warning shot into the air in order to salvage as much of the windpipe of the man as possible.
He did need it for some chit-chat with the captain.
