"Sacrifice?"
Serenica imitated Ed by pinching the bridge of her nose while trying to avoid displaying any other obvious signs of desperation. It was always this way with Spade, he always wanted to take parts of himself and give them away, it was as if he had an integral part in him that commanded him to destroy himself in the least cost-effective way possible.
"Do you think these things are free?" he asked, but the lack of malice in his voice made the idea of losing him even more hard to bear.
"No, but I also don't think that the one doing the sacrifice must be one of us, all the time," Serenica said.
She helped herself to some coffee. The topic was pretty hard to discuss with her empty eye socket still aching a little. She had thought there had been enough sacrificial gifts for a lifetime.
"Why is it so important to you to get the Maroon King killed?" she asked.
