Chapter 2 - Episode 2 : The desire to live

"Are you kidding me?"

Lilac threw paper at him with all his might with a distorted face. A smooth piece of paper that left her hand fluttered in the air and landed gently on the floor. She was usually aggressive and nervous. In the past, Vessel had taken the violence as if it were nothing. But now even a piece of paper she threw has become a target of fear.

'The engine is about to explode. But my whole body is cold.'

It was the first time to feel this kind of emotion, so the whole situation was confusing. Unfortunately, confusion and fear were not a good combination.

'What is this condition?'

Not knowing that it was an emotional change in the body's condition, he concluded that there was a problem with the engine and cooler. He curled up and tried to escape from this situation for a moment.

'I want you to calm down.'

This cringe was an act that could not solve the problem he had to face. He knew that, but his body didn't move at will. He just looked forward to this moment to pass by.

'You don't even know what you're doing, do you?'

Unfortunately, the way she curled up and stayed still increased her anger.

She tucked her finger into a hole in Android's helmet. Pulling back on the helmet on his finger caused a considerable shock to Vessel's neck. He staggered reflexively out of her grasp.

Lilac yelled at him when her fingernails got slightly broken when she missed his helmet.

"You want me to take it apart right now or what?"

Falling down the stairs and rolling around, he knelt down and began to calculate in a rush.

'Living comes first.'

If he couldn't get out of here, he won't be able to live a life of making decisions. He thought he wouldn't even get a chance to live. It was decided that he should be courageous right now.

Flap!

He tried to turn around and stand up, but the hydraulic pump on his leg did not work properly. The way he sat down did not look confident. He sat on the floor calmly trying to ask for a favor.

Unfortunately, his courage was halved by the creepy clear sound of her shoes.

"Wait, wait."

It was decided that the Lilac, which was getting closer and closer along the stairs, should be stopped first. While raising his hand in an urgent need, he uttered words that he had not thought about.

"I know!"

Her expression became even more distorted when she saw him screaming out of nowhere.

"Are you protesting?"

She acted as if she was watching Android, which defies her owner's orders.

Vessel's loud voice shrank as she stared at him. It wasn't the only thing that changed the size of the voice.

This is because Lilac said something shocking to the machines.

"Machines need to be beaten down to work. Right?

When he first heard it, he didn't feel anything. However, now that there is a problem with the system, he felt very anxious and scared.

Lilac made Vessel's chaotic moment even more painful. Attempts to stop her made her come down faster. Frightened, Vessel decided not to think of the consequences and began to say anything out of the speaker.

"I know you hate the lower classes."

But when he said anything, there were many problems. Because he couldn't find what to say next.

"How did you..."

Lilac never thought a machine that supported her would know hers beliefs. It was also the first time she heard such a thing.

Most of the machines that helped or worked with her broke down in less than a year. To be exact, it was broken down by her. However, she has never blamed herself for the Android being damaged.

'Is it because it's lived a long time?'

The android was operated without failure or damage for about a year and a half. In addition, it was the new Android with the best performance.

Therefore, learning Lilac's behavior was not a big problem. But she didn't know about it.

Lilac stopped halfway down the stairs.

'Okay, talk to me.'

She tried to listen to what he was about to say before discarding the android in front of her.

Recognizing her behavior that gave him a moment to talk, Vessel breathed a sigh of relief into his mind. Then he continued what he was saying.

"That is the only place I can be accepted as a broken Android."

Lilac looked down at him. She thought he was saying something that was not important. He looked pathetic.

'It would be more odd to even accepting you.'

She didn't think anyone would accept the broken machine. In addition, she thought that what Vessel was doing all these time was kidnapping, so no one would see it as a good thing. No matter how many people there was.

"Please, just please."

Her mind was in conflict with the way he asked for a favor which he had never done before.

He was using a different tone from his usual voice. And he was doing something different from what she saw in the past. No matter how hard she tried to ignore him, she couldn't help but be bothered.

'Why are you doing this to me?'

She thought it was surprising that his usual perfection was nowhere to be found and seemed to show his lack of perfection like a human being.

'Why aren't you get angry right now?'

Meanwhile, Vessel was wondering why she wasn't angry.

He wanted to think that he delivered his opinion properly. But he couldn't tell whether she was worried or angry.

'Should I have left without asking permission?'

He was going to run away if she was wondering about the most painful way to break him down. She usually chose a way which give her satisfaction. There was no consideration for the other person when using those method.

That possibility made him more frightened. He felt my back stiff and a cold sweat was flowing. Of course, he didn't sweat at all because he was a machine. However, he felt a sense of cold water dripping through his spine.

'Ugh... I hate this feeling.'

He tried to ignore this sensation. However, as the time went by, the goose bumps that spread to the spine became worse.

'Is this my last moment?'

He thought he should say the last thing he could before he leave this world. After giving up, his fear seemed to disappear.

"Whoa..."

He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. He spoke to her with a calm voice for the first and last time.

"I want to live, Lilac."

Lilac turned her head when he said that he wanted to live.

'What did I hear something wrong?'

With one eyebrow raised, she was surprised. No matter how much she thought about it, it wasn't him she knew.

She never thought some kind of midday machine wanting to "live." Or, such an object was discussing life in front of her.

'You want to live? A machine wants to live?'

Lilac read all of the manual of all the machines she was given. She also checked the occasional upgrades and periodic updates in detail. She thought she had a complete grasp of this machine.

Nevertheless, the fact that there was a change surprise her.

'No, He couldn't know what it is to living a life.'

A year and a half would not be such a long time for humans. However, it can be said to be a long time for machines that cannot exceed a year due to frequent breakdowns. No matter how hard it was, she thought there was a limit to the big changes that machines could make.

'Can a machine think like this?'

It was a very unusual change for her. No matter how much she thought about it, she thought that Vessel's condition was not normal.

'A machine that expresses the desire to live.'

She turned her head and tried to covered it. Hiding her expression, she was lost in the sea called deep thought.

'Can they even think this way?'

The Android people who worked with her before might have thought they wanted to live. If they had, they would have resisted her behavior severely. When she thought about it, she remembered that she was actually rebellious.

She had brutally dismantled and cut down robots that had a desire to live. She was almost shocked by what she had been doing. However, she was not a person who was shocked and panicked by such a thing. That's why she got her mind together easily.

'Mission failed.'

While Lilac was holding her thought, Vessel was giving up all hope. He thought about what would happen if it was scrapped.

He first thought of the case when the limbs were broken down. This was the case when the prosthetic leg or prosthetic arm was attached to the human body. He then thought of the case of being thrown away.

'They say it's okay up to the prosthetic leg. No, maybe it's better to be thrown away.'
