Chereads / Fleeing From Fate / Chapter 14 - Elemental Sight!

Chapter 14 - Elemental Sight!

Seth was blind! The burning liquid had burned his eyes too much and now they didn't work. Seth slowly stood up, he was shaky because one of his senses wasn't giving him any information. Seth felt like something important was missing. He had never really thought about blind or deaf people in his past life, he had other things to deal with. But he had a newfound respect for them, he could already tell that living without hearing or sight was hard. Seth was able to stabilize himself, he felt like he could fall at any moment though.

Seth felt a slight breeze flowing around him. As he stood, the breeze became stronger and stronger. For some reason, the breeze didn't seem to exert any force on him. It was as if the breeze was only his imagination, not in the real world. Seth started feeling a little bit weird, the "breeze" was causing his skin to itch. Seth started scratching himself, he couldn't hold back. Everything was too itchy! The scratching didn't help anything, the breeze still blew against his skin, even in places that were covered. It was like the breeze was in his skin, rather than blowing against it. Seth continued to scratch himself for almost ten minutes.

The breeze stopped abruptly, only for another odd thing to happen. Seth felt a massive amount of magic well up, almost his entire reserve. He hadn't even used a total of half of his maximum magic in his entire life! And now almost all of it was being used? Seth tried to stop the magic from moving, but he couldn't. His own magic was too strong for him to control. Seth grimaced and sat down, focusing entirely on observing his magic and trying to make sure it wouldn't harm him.

What Seth saw was amazing. There was an innumerable number of elements, all of them were leading his docile magic through his body. They were bringing his magic up from his abdomen, through his heart, up to his head. Seth could feel the elements speaking to him, they were reassuring him. They were telling him that they were helping him, Seth didn't trust them, but he didn't have a choice. The elements led his magic to his brain and his eyes, establishing a new connection, and essentially creating a new part of the brain. The elements built a new part of his brain from his mana and a few specific elements. They infused themselves into his eyes and formed connections to the new part of his brain.

Everything was over in less than a minute, Seth's magic reserve was almost empty, but he could see! Well, not really. He could see millions of elements everywhere. he couldn't see objects, but he could see the elements in them. The elements had given him sight! Although it wasn't the best for practical use, it would help him greatly in controlling elements and at least he could make out his surroundings. Seth looked around, he wasn't in his room. This room was huge and there were a lot of beds with people on them, Seth was in a hospital.

Seth looked around for a door, he couldn't find one. All of the walls had the same elements in them. Seth was still not used to his new vision, it was awkward and it was hard to make out details. Seth walked around the room, most of the beds were empty. Seth could see different elements in all of the people he saw, all with different amounts too. On one bed, Seth saw someone with four elements, in massive amounts no less. This person was stronger than he was! Seth tried to use Inspect, it came back with all question marks.

After walking around the room a few times, Seth's eyes started hurting and his vision swam. After a few moments of nausea, Seth's vision cleared up. He looked around, everything was clearer. Seth even noticed that he could see through some things with few elements in them. The elements in the world stopped flowing when Seth looked at them. He could actually see clearly now. His sight still wasn't exactly the best, but he could see a lot better. When Seth looked at people though, the elements in their bodies didn't stop. This meant that Seth couldn't see people that clearly, but he could still make out their figure. It was like he was looking at their shadow if it were bright and colorful.

Seth thought back to the old man, he wasn't even mad at him, he already knew that he was a Peak Mortal enemy. Seth had gotten a lot of points from the encounter and his talent had even increased. He had even gotten magical sight, his affinities for the elements had increased by so much from this. Seth sighed and walked a little ways back to his bed, he didn't want to be caught walking around the room.

"Seth?" A woman's voice appeared out of nowhere. Seth jumped and looked around, spotting a bright blue and red figure in the corner of the room. There was a door there, it was hard to make out but he could tell.

"Hello?" Seth didn't know who this woman was but judging by her elements, she was strong. She still wasn't as strong as the person in the furthest bed though.

"What are you doing out of bed sweety?" The woman sounded very motherly as if she was doting on her baby.

"Who are you?"

"I'm your nurse, little buddy." Seth grimaced a little, he hated when people talked to him like he was a child.

"Please don't call me that." Seth's tone didn't fit well with his voice or face, it was hard to sound serious when you're a child. The woman just laughed and walked over to him. Seth didn't feel any danger, but he guarded himself anyways.

"Whoa kid, what happened to your eyes?" The nurse noticed Seth's opaque irises.

"Nothing, I'm fine."

"Wow! How can you even see me?" The nurse didn't even try to sound nice anymore, her overly sweet tone had gone.

"Curiosity killed the cat." Seth used an idiom from Earth, he completely forgot that he was in a different world.

"Ah, boy. You must be from Earth then." Seth shuddered at those words, he leaked out a massive amount of killing intent as he slowly turned around.

"What. Did. You. Just. Say?" Seth spoke slowly, ready to attack at a moment's notice.

"I just said that you're from Earth too. You're not the only one that reincarnated you know." Seth's killing intent lessened, what the nurse was saying made sense. He wasn't the only one that had the system, that wouldn't make any sense. If he was the only one with the system, how would other people know about it? How would he have gotten a Starter Package from an Overlord if the Overlord didn't have the system? Everything Seth had thought about the world was changed. He wasn't alone, he had competition.

"How do you remember Earth if you haven't even maxed out your Growth?" The nurse was dumbfounded at Seth's words. Seth was surprised that the nurse could remember Earth, memories cost so much more than anything else. Why didn't she spend a few points on her stats and Growth if she was so rich?

"What are you talking about? What do you mean, Growth?"

"I'm talking about how fast you get stronger, your stats."

"What? This isn't a game. This is real life, there are no stats or whatever." The nurse didn't seem to have the system or memories of after her death.

"What do you remember of your life?"

"I remember all of it, I died during my sleep when I was ten." The nurse sighed, reminiscing.

"What year did you die?"

"I died in 1922."

"But... I died in 2019." Seth started to grow a little suspicious about the nurse's memories.

"But I'm 22 now, how does that timing make any sense?" Seth wondered if the system had any more functions. Could it be that the system had caused one of them to travel through time? Seth then realized, the nurse said she died in her sleep. What if she died much later but didn't redeem all of her memories? She could have been a big name with a huge number of achievements. But it all came back to stats. If she had so many points, why in the hell did she not buy all the Growth or stats she could? It just made no sense to Seth.

"What was your name?"

"Chien-Shiung Wu, I was a Chinese-American."

"I have never heard of you before."

"Why would you have heard of me? I was just a random little girl that died at the age of 10."

"That was nothing, nevermind."

"Well, I was just sent here to check up on you, you look okay to me though. I just need to tell the doctors about your blindness and that you look pretty healthy."

"Okay then, I'll see you later then." Seth nodded back to the nurse as she turned and left. Seth continued to walk around the room and look around to get more used to his new vision.

Seth stayed in the room for a few more hours before another nurse came in. The new nurse already knew about his eyes and she just checked up on all the patients, set trays of food next to the beds, and left. She didn't even utter a single word throughout the entire time. Seth sat on his bed and ate his food after the nurse left. As Seth sat on his bed, he remembered his Regeneration skill. He wondered if he would be able to get his normal vision back.

[Regeneration can regenerate health faster and heal wounds much faster]

[upgrade Regeneration to Higher Regeneration to affect permanent injuries]

Seth almost fell off the bed, the pop-ups had appeared without warning. He hadn't even asked the system a question, it was actively talking to him. Seth nodded at the notices but his eyes sharpened a little as he closed the tabs. Seth didn't like how active the system was, as if it was trying to make him rely on it as much as possible. He shook his head, the system already warned him not to think ill of it. He would need to wait until he was strong enough to even think what he wanted.

With nothing to do, Seth fell back to thinking about the nurse from before. She was from Earth, just like him. If she was from Earth, there would be others from Earth, right? Could some of the people from the government base be here too then? Seth grinned a little, thinking about getting revenge on them. Seth thought about it a little more and realized, there was a low chance that they would be able to go to this world. This world cost him 2000 points to get, and it might not be the only one that was 100 for both World Strength and World Size. There could be hundreds or even thousands of worlds like this one.

If Seth wanted to get revenge on everyone, he would have to be able to travel to other worlds. He would have to at least be Ascended, maybe even Divine, if he wanted to beat everyone, he would need to ascend past the system. Seth would need to beat the only thing that could help him. He would need to be ruthless and evil if he wanted to achieve his goals. Seth finally decided, he would be an evil god, a blight on the beautiful world. He would not only kill his enemies, but he would destroy their souls completely, so they would never reincarnate again. He would do what he wanted regardless of the consequences.
