CHAPTER START------
YANG POV------
The trip to the castle wasn't as long as I thought, partially because I ran quite fast now since becoming level 2. It only took a few hours and I got here just as the sun was setting. I guess I wasted an entire day of training time but whatever. Extending my training won't be a problem. Walking around the area I found a mostly baron dirt area with a small pond nearby. This is exactly what I needed. Water for camping and diving into if I set myself on fire and nice hard dirt that can't start a forest fire. I guess this is my training spot for the foreseeable future huh.
I set up my camp and take out some rations to eat before bed. Biting into them I honestly expected it to taste like cardboard but to my surprise, it tasted like meatloaf, and every ration had a unique flavor. Damn, I love a world with magic like this. I wonder if I can order specific flavors when I get back. The possibilities would be endless I guess huh. After eating one of the rations it made me feel super sleepy. That many calories aren't meant for a normal day meal, they were designed to be eaten while fighting your way through the dungeon and not having much time to stop and cook so eating it and not doing any exercise is a bad idea I suppose. As I quickly take a small walk around my campsite I put out the fire and bundle up in my tent to protect myself from the winds as i get ready to write my list of things to practice tomorrow. I take out my stat sheet and a blank book i got and begin brainstorming what I can remember from before I woke up in this world, 'I wonder what skill I can copy from characters with my magic'. Eventually, I go to sleep to get up as early as possible and not waste daylight.
Waking up the next morning and changing out of most of my clothes aside from shorts I get ready to train. My dream list includes things like enhancing my speed and strength, flying, controlling the elements around me, and making shields. Before I do any of that however I need to know what I can and can't access with my magic. It said Elementalist so I would like to assume it gives me all elements but that would mean light which I believe means healing magic in this world, not even sure if that's considered elemental but couldn't hurt to try. I do expect water, earth, fire, air, cold, and lightning however and with my skills I don't think direct healing would be a big deal once my elemental absorption and resistance get high enough I can essentially trade my mana to restore my health by simply absorbing the damage my elements do to my body and heal from it instead. Alright, no more stalling, this is gonna hurt, a lot. But no pain no gain right.
Yang walks into the middle of a dried dirt field, closes his eyes, and stretches his arms forward trying to feel the magic around him. To his surprise, he can actually feel everything from the wind to the ground around him as if waiting for his commands. As he feels the wind he opens his eyes as he closes his hands and pulls both down. This creates a gust of wind that displaces sand and dirt causing a small dirt cloud a few feet in front of him, 'huh, nothing major but everyone has to start somewhere, I guess since I'm in a field earth is next'. As he crouches down and places both his palms flat on the ground he focuses his magic on the earth. This goes on for minutes as compared to air taking only a few moments. Eventually, he feels a connection and he pushes his palms down as he opens his eyes to see a small boulder no larger than 5 FT rising out of the ground a few feet in front of him. He pours more and more mana into this until the boulder stops as he releases a breath he hadn't realized he was holding.
Sweat covered his face and his breath was ragged. His entire body was trembling and his stomach felt like it was yelling at him to eject its contents. Yang's head was spinning and he had to drop to all fours just to stop himself from falling over'. Damn it, why do I feel like I'm dying. Is this just because moving magic into solid objects is harder, agh everything hurts. Maybe I just need more mana or something'. After a half-hour, he eventually got back up and decided to test his water element at the small pond nearby. Just as with wind this came much easier as he made small waves in the pond by only using his will but unfortunately it required a physical connection, for now at least. Finally, he came to the elements he dreaded dearly.
Fire was the first he awakened and it burnt his body. The pain was still fresh in his mind as it only happened yesterday. He had adrenaline to dull the pain then, there is no adrenaline now. He stood in the field for almost 20 minutes trying to talk himself up to it before realizing 'You can't talk yourself into lighting yourself on fire' and just decided to go for it. He held up one finger and focused on the appendage. Slowly he saw it warm up and begin gathering heat around it until there was a small candle flame shimmering into existence dancing on his finger. To his surprise, there was no heat or pain. 'Well I guess my resistance is absorbing all the energy from it and healing me so I can't even feel it, I'll have to test exactly how that works soon' he lamented in a hesitant tone.
He stood on the shore of the pond to test his flame but now he moved away to the next element, with his fingers on his right hand spaced out he relaxed and concentrated on the space between them as he focuses his magic to move between the gaps. To his delight, small sparks began to dance and jump between his fingers causing a manic smile to form on his face. ' Alright, that's enough playing with my lightning magic for now. Whoa, that's actually a sentence that I can say and really mean now, hahaha. Time to test my cold element.
As he walks back to the pond he calmly squats down at the shore and places one hand into the water as he focuses on his hand and pushes his magic to it. Slower than the fire magic he focuses on it being steady and calm this time and small bits of ice form in the water around his hand. He then removes his hand from the water with a smile on his face and does his next tests. He attempts to create ice and water in his hand with no source of the element. Unfortunately for him, it seems that the cost of creating solid elements is extremely high as focusing that much mana into his palm for either element made him extremely lightheaded almost to the point of blacking out. He decided this was fine. Being able to use all the elements should make up for needing a source for the physical ones.
Most people can create elements from nothing with their magic but can't have all the elements with the level of control he eventually plans to achieve one day after all.' Until I get to a higher level and have enough mana to make walls and streams with just my magic it's best I focus on fire, lightning, and wind to fight, for now, I seem to grasp those 3 easier anyway. That's probably because they aren't solid so I guess that makes sense. Anyway, time to start training'. As he finishes his thought he begins running laps around his camp to build stamina before practicing his elemental magic far past sunset and deep into the night before eventually going to bed for the night.
2 DAYS LATER YANG POV------
I'm having lunch with my feet soaking in the pond, below my knees have small burns all over. My last attempt at flying didn't go so well, at least I got off the ground this time. My control of the flames isn't focused enough to keep me in the air and it got a bit, explosive. Small flames wisp around my upper body as I eat my ration for lunch. Thankfully I can keep these little candleflames up indefinitely so they essentially act as healing magic in very small doses for me. Another hour or 2 of this and my burns should be fine, not like I'd be waiting for them to fully heal anyway. As soon as they stop stinging I can get back to training. training 18 hours a day for 2 days has taught me one thing for certain, I can't be afraid of my own magic. I need to just push forward and expect my absorption and healing to take effect. Every time I overdo it and burn myself I just do some small exercises with magic and the burns heal. My next step after I get the control of fire, wind, and lightning under control enough is to mix them. Fire and wind should help each other and I'm sure lightning can help, somehow. When I let it flow through me I can feel my mind and body speed up so maybe it's best to use it internally. The headache after isn't even that bad I just need a moment to focus. Not battle ideal but better than nothing I suppose.
I'm counting on a swirl effect(Element mixing with air) to make the power of my flames strong enough to carry me. A week seems a bit hopeful for getting this done but so what if I stay here a bit longer, besides I'm still a kid in a candy store with magic. This is still new and shiny to me so of course I'd rather be out here where I can keep testing it and maybe fly around than inside the city. 'My legs are good enough now, time to get back to it' Yang gets up and walks away from the lake with a wide smile on his face.
