Sometime during lunch recess.
"Are you really from Parrotise?" Elle asked Meteor Shower.
"Yes, why do you ask?" Meteor Shower replied.
"Oh it's nothing. Everyone was just surprised because, we thought, y'know, parrotise had mostly parrots?" Elle was a bit nervous because she had long ago learned that Parrotisians had the strongest magic. Ofcourse she knew that humans lived there as well but simply couldn't think of any other way to justify her first question. Especially because the way she said it made it seem like she was doubting Meteor Shower.
"Ah, yeah. Honestly that makes sense. I wonder why?" Meteor Shower had never considered this before. Why were humans living in a place called Parrotise? He would certainly have to ask Professor Parrot when he got home.
Seeing that her random question seemed to have worked Elle was secretly relieved.
Her friend Krilly though was also caught up in her question and was wondering why would humans live in a place called Parrotise?
As he was thinking, Meteor Shower took out a guava and began munching on it. Because they didn't want to disturb him, neither Elle nor Krilly said anything as Meteor Shower was lost in thought.
Above the trio a small yellow ball could be seen on a tree branch.
…
"Has he used any kind of magic yet?" Evan asked a blonde haired boy next to him.
The boy trembled slightly. "Nothing yet sir."
Che… someone needs to provoke him or this will go nowhere… Evan contemplated silently.
The blonde boy next to him was sitting cross legged with his eyes closed, but if one looked closely they would see that his eyes were faintly glowing. He was using drone magic and spying on Meteor Shower who was eating lunch in the field!
Evan and the blonde boy were not the only ones in the room however. There were 5 others who were all patiently eating their lunches while waiting for results from the blonde boys spying. Naturally, these kids were all part of Evan's little gang.
Evan was actually from a powerful political family, but because he had been unable to wield magic till this past summer, he had been enrolled in this public school. As soon as this semester was over, his family planned to transfer him to a private school. This was one of the reasons he acted so arrogantly with this group. Many of these kids used to bully him before for not being able to use magic. Now, the tables had turned as he could use magic and had a powerful backing. Hence, they fearfully became his henchmen to avoid retaliation after he made an example of the person who led the others to bully him.
That poor student had been completely wasted. Just thinking about him made these kids shiver.
Unfortunately, for Evan, Meteor Shower never spent the rest of his lunch break eating guava after guava thinking about why humans were living in Parrotise.
Some of the theories he had come up with were rather ridiculous even to himself. For example, what if all the humans were secretly parrots! And because he had floated down a river, they decided to use magic to take on human forms and raise him to conquer the human world in their name? Or what if, he was also secretly a parrot but they turned him into a human with magic so that he could be used to infiltrate the other nations and steal seeds for new and improved guava trees? Or what if it was because they weren't allowed to buy houses as parrots so some of them took on permanent human forms in order to become property owners? Or maybe it was to become hotel tycoons!?!?!
The possibilities were endless and a 14 year old Meteor Shower had the imagination and enough secret identity complex to come up with even crazier ones.
...
After lunch, Triasterisk began his next lesson, history.
"Millenia ago, the homo sapiens sapiens began to appear across the world. Due to unknown reasons, they outcompeted every other humanoid race for food, shelter and reproduction rights. Eventually leaving themselves to be the only intelligent life form on our mother planet of Earth. They spent 10,000 years as hunter gatherers before the agricultural revolution where they began to farm. Farming eventually led to civilization which appeared in several river valleys. It was sometime after that, that war became large scale, kingdoms rose and so did technological development. The generalist hunter gatherer societies were outcompeted by specialized craftsmen. They began making tools of metal, learning forging and engineering. Don't look down on these ancestors of ours for not having magic, because it was the work they did that lay the foundation for our society today.
Millenia after the rise of civilization, the so-called Europeans discovered other continents in our world. The Americas. They colonized them due to a technological advantage which gave them the resources to finally become global hegemons. They became the first imperial powers.
It was in this period of dominance by those of european descent that the industrial revolution took place. The assembly line and factories took the place of specialized craftsmen. After a few centuries, the economic advantage was once again held in the hands of the generalists, not the specialists. Especially when the internet was invented. We use a modified version of that to allow our citizens instant access to the library of spells, however due to the propensity for digital networking to get out of hand, we have banned non governmental digital public forums because people are too easily influenced by fake information that they receive there. It is because of the interconnected forums of the internet that the great powers of that time were displaced, however as they did not have magic, the revolutions to topple them were not capable of being overly catastrophic. The great ancestor of magic, the black saint, was also one of those revolutionaries and the nation he overthrew was called the United States of America. Unfortunately, after the successful coup to overthrow the nation he was in, the race unification occurred equalizing all humans, changing their bodies and genes to match that of a single race. Because magic was unique to the black saint's race at the time, it became lost. Eventually, magic evolved, or degraded and began to recognize all humans and so entered our bodies once more. Then, when our races began to diverge once again, and my dwarf race, the beastmen, the elves, and everyone else began to appear from mutations, we retained the ability to use magic."
Most of the class had heard of this before but for some people, it was completely new. Meteor Shower was one such person, however he did not want to bring attention to himself so he pretended to have known this information beforehand as well. Nevertheless, he was shocked learning about all of these things. He had always thought magic was an integral part of the world, not that it was man made!
After the summary, Triasterisk began lecturing in greater detail about evolution, a man named Charles Darwin and some other things before then going back to talk about the evolution of mankind. He seamlessly integrated biology and history together, lecturing about them both till the end of school.
