Chapter 1: Plans

It was a dark and scary night. The wind howled and the rain poured. two dogs, White Fang and Lord Vador, the most feared of all dogs, fought.

Let's start at the beginning. It was Monday, December twenty-third, and perfectly sunny outside. Not a speck of cloud was seen for miles around. It was a little humid I'l admit and there was a little breeze but what possibly could go wrong?

Well, stuff could go wrong and did. First off at Dog Headquarters Black dog got the call that no dog ever wants to get. No, it was not time to go to the vet. This was worse. He heard from Mad Claw and Mad Dog that Lord Vador was running amok. He was somewhere in Michigan but that is all they knew. They knew he hated cats and every cat he saw he killed on site. None of them knew any cats around but they knew someone who did. Underdog! There was one problem though. Where was he? That question puzzled and boggled the three.

"He could be anywhere," Black dog said to the group.

"He's probably somewhere where we least expect," Jazz said, helping bring a little fun light to the situation.

Underdog sat at his computer thinking about what he should do today. Only one thought stood out. He decided to take a deep beauty nap cause he needed it.

He was about to fall into a dream when suddenly there was a knock at his door. Underdog played it off as something in his head and closed his eyes again but there was a second knock and this time louder than the first.

Underdog said a few words under his breath then lazily got up and tread to the door. On his way through the kitchen though he was awake enough to grab his gun knife but not his coffee. He opened the door.

"Greetings friend," Lord Vador said, with arms outstretched.

Before Underdog could fully wake up and realize who it was Vador picked him up and chucked him across the room. Underdog realized who he was.

In a flash, Vador was on Underdog's chest and a knife was in his hands aiming down at Underdog.

He was so close to flesh that he could smell it but he was shot from behind and dropped the knife.

He turned and there were the three. He had run into them before. Still up to there old ways. Black dog cocked the gun and Vador stood still.

"You couldn't shoot me then and I know you're not going to shoot me now, Blackdog."

"God knows I want to."

Vador picked up his knife and Black dog shot. Vador dodged then jumped and crawled from wall to wall so it was harder to pinpoint him. Black dog tried to shield his eyes but Vador fell on him and pinned him to the ground. He slashed Black dogs eye drawing blood then he escaped out the front door and past a bewildered Mad Claws who stood stunned.

The moment he saw Underdog on the floor and unsuccessfully get up he snapped back to. He helped Black dog up then went to tend Underdog.

Mad Dog was gone. He took him but Mad Claws couldn't think about that right now. He knew Mad dog could defend himself.

"Are you hurt," He said, slowly helping Underdog up.

"You should see the other guy," Underdog said, trying to smile. He started to cough and his chest hurt.

"Don't do that. Let me feel. Vador must've broken some of your ribs when you hit the wall old man. You're losing your touch."

Underdog smiled then looked around the room.

"Where's Black Dog?"

"He's in the kitchen. Vador slashed his eye pretty good. I guess those cats are wearing off on him more than we thought."

"Where is Mad Dog?"

Mad Claws stopped and bowed his head.

"Claws?"

Claws slowly raised his head.

"Vador took him on his way out the door."

There was silence for a few seconds then Underdog spoke.

"We have to help him. Come with me."

"Old man. Hii. Sorry about your kitchen."

"It's ok…..whaaaaaaaat!"

There was blood and towels everywhere. You wouldn't have even known there was a countertop and kitchen there if I hadn't told you that there was earlier.

"Black dog, wipe up your blood. We got a cat too find."

"Yes sir!"

"Cat," Mad Claws whispered to Underdog. "How'd you know? That's why we came over here."

"I'm not old for nothing. Now there is one cat that I know of and her name is Paws. Now, now don't laugh. She is one that'll steal your watch and keys without you even knowing. I may know where to find her."

The three opened the door and ran into a girl. They toppled and her head barely nicked the tires of a passing car. A few strands of hair were left on the road.

"What're you doing? I almost had them."

"Hello to you to Paws."

"...Underdog," she said recognizing him. "It can't be. You haven't grown an inch since last I saw you. You've gotten a little chubbier if I say so myself."

"Paws, we need your help, my lady," Black Dog said, cursting to her.

She looked at him then back at Underdog.

"Told you she doesn't laugh," Madclaws said, bumping Black dog on the side.

"You're telling me you missed the SUV that just passed your house? That was one of Lord Vadors. I was tracking it to his HQ. I wasssssssssss going to steal the car but instead, I did something else. I already have my own problems but now I have you three to deal with. Why don't you just kill me now."

"I heard you can't…' oomph.' Madclaws hit him in the side to tell him to shut up.

"What's your problem?" She asked.

"One of mine has been taken and I believe he is in the same spot where you're going. Why don't we tag team."

"With you? Like old times. You slowed me down last time. Not going to happen."

"It wasn't me who slowed us down remember?"

Madclaws cleared his throat loud enough so everyone could hear and stopped.

"It's not that I don't want to hear about your love life or have the time but rn the SUV is getting away and so if my friend so can we both go?"

The rest looked at him then agreed. Hands and paws went in the circle and a plan was struck up.

They waited until the SUV stopped and the dogs to leave before they came out of hiding and snuck in.

"Heh, boys!"

The dogs looked at her and shot but she easily dodged while Underdog came up from behind and knocked the two unconscious.

"You two check this floor and me and Paws will check the upper."

"Yeah, you do that," Black Dog said. Then MadClaws yanked him back into the other room.

"How have you been?" Underdog said, trying to ease the tension.

"Fine," she said rather abruptly.

They walked in silence the rest of the way.

"So how did you escape?"

"What was that?" She yelled.

"I said, how did you…." He was cut off by an uproar of wings. It sounded like a helicopter

The two looked out the window and a helicopter flew and looked into the building directly on them. Underdog looked across the room and there sat MadDog tied up to a chair, bagged and tape over his mouth. He took a step and Vador shot.

"Now here's what's going to happen. Paws, I saw your trick. Very crafty if I must say so. Thanks for that. Now, you're all going to just sit there and die. BOOM. Disintegrated. I fly in with my helicopter, jump off and try to save you but I'm too late. I plead to the people that I didn't mean to leave you those many years ago and that I changed and was trying to help. It's all about reputation in today's world. Isn't that right, Underdog.

Paws looked at him and he stopped with a pleading look on his face.

"You take any sudden movement and I will shoot this place down. You call for any of your friends and I will shoot you down. You so much as breathe without my consent and you're dead.

The two looked at each other and knew what to do. They sprinted as fast as they could dodging all the bullets and grabbed their friend as the whole building went BOOM and up to flames. The dogs were never seen from again.

Robot Trouble

By Taylor Scott Valk

I remember it so clearly. It was a Friday afternoon, I walked up to Zach's house and did a few knocks on the door. It was a wonderful day. Clouds lined the sky but the sun peaked its head out just enough to add the warmth the day needed. I could not have picked a better day to come over. As I was standing on the steps of Zach's house I thought, "This will be an awesome week." The week was going to be anything but. It was going to be the most horrific week ever. I did not know that yet but I was going too soon. After the ninth ring of the doorbell, that I repeatedly hit every so often the door opened and Zach was standing there in the doorway.

"Where did your parents go?" I asked.

"They went to Florida for a surprise anniversary for my mom so we it is just you and me here all week."

I walked in, the Xbox was already on, and on the game we were going to play.

Zach went into the kitchen and returned with a few bags of chips and he set them on the counter. Then we sat down in the living room and played for a while. It was a game we were never supposed to play but we played anyways. The game was called King of the Underworld.

We were playing for some time until we got bored I asked if Zach had any other games. He did not say anything. I asked again but he was staring blankly at the TV screen. I snapped my fingers a few times over his eyes but nothing. I looked and saw a weird demon looking robot face. I knew it was in the game but that was not the crazy part. The face started talking and said, "This is only the beginning."

I quickly reached for the remote to turn the TV off but before I could hit the power button, the TV turned itself off.

"Zach, did you see that?" I asked a little scared.

"I saw exactly what you saw bro. It was freaky but we should just forget about it."

Right after he said that the front door opened and Zach and I jumped for the ceiling. That is literally how high we jumped off of the couch.

We touched the ground and we were gone. We hid behind the counter but the only one that entered was Ben. He walked in and was confused.

"I heard you two screaming. Why were you screaming?" He asked.

Both of us almost in unison said, "The Face."

"Slow down. What face?"

"We were playing a videogame and then a face popped up and said, 'this is only the beginning. Then he vanished." I said.

"I think you guys are imagining stuff. Anyway, I bought you a videogame. Do you guys want to play it with me?"

"I've had enough creeps for one day." Zach said.

"Guys, it's not real. "

Right as he had said that the front door started opening again but this time with a loud moan.

Ben dropped the game and all three of us jumped but when we saw what was behind the door we screamed and jumped even higher than before.

Evil Robot

When the door opened, the person we saw was standing clear in the doorway.

Ben was about to talk when the robot appeared behind him and Ben stopped short. We all turned around

Flame

Dark and stormy was the night whilst everybody slept. There were three horses still up and awake in their stalls. Flame, Fire, and Water. Flame was three stalls down from Fire and Fire was three stalls down from Water.

"Pss, is anyone awake? The humans and all the other horses are asleep. Flame, Water wake up and come on. We are getting out of here. We've done it before and have never gotten caught," Fire said as he saw Flame and Water lift their heads and stand.

"Are you serious? What do you mean we have never been caught. Last time we broke out to look around the humans found us and we almost were caught. Plus it is thundering, lightning, raining, dark, and spooky outside. You expect me to go out there. Hell no," Water said shaking his head.

"Almost. Key word. Almost got caught. What, you're scared of a little rain. Your name is Water. You should be used to it by now. I'm going with Fire even if you are a little scared," Flame said.

"You seriously are going out there? Think about all of the things that could jump out, bite you and eat you alive. It is so dark and I am tired," Water said, laying down.

"Lame excuse. I'm just too tired to go out. Fire and I both know you are scared of the dark. You have always been scared of the dark. The dark spooky, dreary, lonely night. You have us as your protectors. Fire and I will light the way, unless you don't trust us," Flame said.

"No. I don't need you two to protect me. I am fine on my own. You two would more make a fool of me then protect me anyways." Water said.

"Ouch. You cut me real deep, Water." Fire said jokingly, touching his heart.

"The real reason you don't want to go is because you're a chicken," Flame said.

"I am not a chicken!" Water said shooting back at him super-fast and standing up hastily with great speed.

"Ohhhh, you're not. Well then prove it," Flame said making bawking noises in an attempt to wake the other horses.

"Fine. I will come only if it shuts you two up from mocking me and that bawking noise is starting to get on my nerves," Water said unlocking his stall.

"Oh no. This is going to be very awkward. Two horses and a chicken. Fire please don't let him come with us. Please. He will blow both of our covers. And he is not even our kind. He is a chicken. Oh, please no. Pleeease," Flame begged to Fire.

"Flame, he is not a chicken and he is coming with us. End of story," Fire said.

"Yes ma'am, as you insist," Flame said.

"Don't call me ma'am ever again or else you're not going," Fire said with his nostrils flaring.

"Yes mother. If you insist," Flame said ducking a punch from Fire.

Early the next morning when all the horses woke up they were shocked to see that Flame, Water, and Fire were all gone. They all talked at once aloud saying, "Where are they? Where are they?" There was panic in everybody's eyes.

Rocky woke up from his dream with a start.

"Everybody settle down. If you're looking for Flame and the others they're not here. No, they were not taken to die. Alfred I see that look. They're in the woods just looking around and said they would be back early this morning. Now don't wake me again. I had a good dream going."

A horse across from Rocky said, "Is this true and if so who told you and where are they?"

"Like all of you those three woke me up from my good dream with their jibber jabbering. Since I am one of Flames best friends he saw me listening in to what they were saying so he asked if I could be their backup if anything went wrong which I said yes. If anything does go wrong which probably won't happen, but if it does come and search for us."

"So do you want us to help you search and find them? They could be anywhere or as we speak they could have gotten eaten or shot or worse." Another horse said.

"They could have been struck by lightning or lost because of scaredness," Another young horse said,

"Seriously," An old horse said shaking his head. What kind of books and movies have you been watching lately?" A horse said.

"Well, sometimes the people from time to time like to watch scary horror movies at night to see how long they can take it so I stay up all night peering into the window and watch it with them," The young horse said.

"Oooooh. So that is where all the shakiness of my stall and the floor are coming from. Scared little you. Well come over here and I'll show you what real fear is and give you something you will never be afraid of," The old horse said digging with his hooves.

"Ooh. You want to go. Let's see what you are made of, fragile old man."

"Guys, Can we cool it and refocus? I know those three horses and the last thing they are are scared babies. They are never scared of anything." Rocky said.

"Well they may not be scared of anything but I am scared for them nonetheless so let's go get them before they actually do get lost," A horse said.

"Do we seriously have to go out there now, I am still tired." The young horse said.

"You can stay here if you would like and be a chicken. Bawk, Bawk!" Rocky mimicked.

"You got that from Flame didn't you?"

"Nope, he got it from me."

"Who is his other best friend? Let me guess. A chicken?" the young horse said sarcastically.

"Well, actually. Yes. His other best friend is a chicken."

"You're making that up."

"No, I am not."

"Let's go."
