After we parted ways, I drove my car straight to the hospital. I haven't been to the hospital for a while now.

As I arrived at the hospital, I scanned for an empty parking lot closest to the entrance. After I stationed my car, I got out and locked the door. I scooted towards the elevator. A ding sound indicates that the elevator has arrived. I entered and push the button to level 5, which is the female ward.

When it reached level 5, I dashed out of the elevator and head towards my mom's room. Without hesitation, I enter the room.

"Hey, guys," I muttered. To my surprise, mom was sitting down facing the window. She turned her head over her shoulder to look at me and smile as our eyes met.

I walked over to her and gave her the warmest hug and kissed her cheek. "What are doing sitting here alone? Where's Aunt Jenn?" I asked.

,

She squeezed my hand. "Hi, sweety. She went out a while ago to go resolve something at her cafe. I missed you," mom retorted back.

"I missed you more. How are you feeling? Is the treatment working? Have you been taking your medicines according to the doctor's instructions?" I raised a lot of questions to her.

She giggled. "Slow down dear. One question at a time. As you know, before this, it's really hard for me to walk around but since doing all the treatments suggested by the doctor, I am doing much better now. Although, I can't say that the treatments are a hundred percent working. And yes, I am taking my meds according to the doctor's instructions."

"That's a relief to hear. Uhm, mom?" I pause.

"Yeah?"

"I want to apologize for not coming here as often as I should. I know, I am a bad daughter. When you needed me the most, I was never here to accom...," I stumbled and burst into tears. I can't seem to finish my sentences. I kneeled beside her.

"Don't cry dear. You did nothing wrong, don't say things like that. I know you have been through a rough time lately, with the breakup and the sudden news about my sickness. It's a lot to digest. I understand. Besides, Jenny's here with me. So no worries sweety," she tried to calm me down.

I know deep down that she's hurting but she doesn't want to admit it just because I am her daughter. I felt so bad. I cried even more.

She just caresses my head and says nothing. I just want the time to stop so I can have this moment forever with my mom.

INT. Jenn's Cafe

"I quit. I can't handle this alone anymore. I am just a manager and you're the boss. How can you leave me here to manage this cafe while you're out there, having fun," said Steph, Jenn's Cafe's manager.

Janny sighed. "Listen Steph. I already told you. I was at the hospital accompanying my friend. I still pay you for doing all of that, didn't I? You can't just quit like that. It's not easy finding a replacement."

"I don't care. My decision is final. Why the hell are you taking care of your oh-so-called friend at the hospital. As far as I know, she has a daughter. Why can't she be the one taking care of the sick mother," Steph retorted. Her tone sounded frantic.

"It's complicated. Her daughter is having a rough time right now. She..."

Steph cut her off before she could finish her words. "Well, that's her fucking problem. You were supposed to manage this cafe not manage someone else's stupid life."

Jenny was furious. "You know what Steph, I don't need a person like you as a manager. You're repulsing attitude is tainting this cafe. Here's your last salary and get the fuck out of my face," She blurted out.

Steph was dumbfounded. She has never seen Jenny this mad. "Good luck finding a replacement," She took the envelope for her salary and left the cafe.
