It's ten in the morning. I'm sitting in my usual spot near the window in Jenn's Cafe and ordered a cafe au lait. The cafe is located not far across from where I live.
The owner of the cafe is Jenny. She's one of my mom's good friends. I grew up having her as a second mom since my dad passed away when I was 4 years old. So basically, I've known her for my entire life.
I'm waiting for my best friend to come. It's been about 15 minutes now but she's still hasn't arrived yet. She was supposed to accompany me to the mall. Since my boyfriend's birthday is in a few days, I was thinking of buying my boyfriend a birthday gift. I still haven't decided on what to get him yet.
The waiter brought my order and I took a sip from the cup. I took my iPad out from my handbag and started to write for my next book. It's Saturday today, and usually, I don't work on weekends.
I was so focused on my iPad, I didn't even realize that someone has sat in front of me.
"Hey Ry, sorry for being late," she said apologetically while waving her hand at the waiter to order.
I looked up and saw my best friend has finally arrived. That's Daisy Wright. My childhood friend. The queen of "better late than never arrive."
"What took you so long to get here?" I said as I rolled my eyes at her.
"Sorry again. My mom was bragging again about the last blind date that I went on. You know me, I'm not the kind of person to settle down after one date, " she said and let out a sigh.
Her order has arrived and she quickly took a sip from the cup. As usual, she ordered a pumpkin spiced latte.
"Yeah, I know but didn't you like going on these dates?" I asked and chuckled.
"I used to, but now I don't feel like it's relevant for me to go on these blind dates anymore if I only see them once and never heard from them ever again, " she said.
"Why don't you find someone nice to introduce to Aunt Lucy. Maybe then she will stop arranging blind dates for you, " I said and smirked at her.
"How can I ever find a boyfriend if my mother only wants to see me with either a doctor or anyone that works in the medical field. It's not easy falling in love with people who are probably busy as f*ck and always ready for a 24 hours call from the hospital," she said while rolling her eyes at me as I took another sip of my drink.
I let out a sigh and smile at her. After a few more minutes of chatting, we finally decided to pay for our drinks and head out to the mall. We waved at Aunt Jenny and say our goodbye.
The mall is a 10 minutes walk from the cafe. I didn't bring my car because the location of both the cafe and the mall is not that far from my apartment.
As we were about to enter the mall, my eyes caught on a discount advertisement for men's clothing near the entrance door. Suit&Tie Boutique is having a sale. I immediately knew what I wanted to get for Lucas.
I grabbed Daisy's wrist and marched to the elevator. She just follows me obediently. The store is located on the second floor.
As we reached the store, one of the shop assistants greeted us with a smile and offered to assist us.
While browsing for a nice tie for Lucas, Daisy suddenly asked me. "So, did Lucas know about this?"
I shook my head. "No. It's supposed to be a surprise, remember?" I said as I flick her forehead. She rubs her forehead and frowned.
A black and gold tie caught my attention. "This is it," I said as I showed Daisy the tie.
She just smiled at me and nodded as if she's agreeing to my choice of gift. I handed the tie to the shop assistant and she brings it to the counter. Before I could even turn around to pay for the tie, Daisy suddenly pinched my cheek and said that she also wanted to buy a tie for her dad. I growl at her while rubbing my cheek. It was odd for her to buy a tie for her dad since she always buys him high-quality cigars.
"Does this tie makes you look old?" she asked. She picked a naval blue tie and showed it to me.
"I think it's okay. Your dad is still youthful so it won't be a problem for him rock any colored tie, " I said and give her a warm smile. She nodded and we're both headed towards the counter. We paid separately for the tie and waved to the shop assistant as we leave the store.
We walk around the mall for a bit until it was lunchtime. Daisy suggested that we eat at Leigh's Kitchen, a newly opened restaurant. The food was good I guess.
After we finished lunch, we headed our separate ways. I went back to my apartment and Daisy went to the salon to get her nails done.
