Chapter 39 - Where It Begin

Jiutian Xuannü, "A long time ago, when Nuwa created mortals, she also created gods and goddesses to help her take care of her creation.

At that time, I asked Nuwa to create the most power god to protect the Demon Gate. Nuwa made Syaoran from my flesh and blood.

Syaoran's job is to defend the Northern Fortress in Horsemen Land. I was proud of the creation, so was Nuwa. We gave him all the five elements power, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water, and Wood. Syaoran was the most powerful creature on earth at that time. Both demons and gods are afraid of him. The only mistake he made was to fall in love. That god is you, Ping'an."

The mirror showed a very handsome man, in his thirty, and about five feet elven inches tall. His skin is white as snow. His hair is white, his eyebrows are white, and his eyes are green. He wears white from head to toe. His two ears are like elves.

Syaoran walked on a lonely path up the mountain when he encountered two dying flowers struggling to survive. The two flowers are the most beautiful flowers he has ever seen. He immediately fell in love with the flowers. The thought of the two dying flowers made his heart sad. He sat down beside the two flowers. Then he stroked the flowers tenderly.

Syaoran frowned, "Something so beautiful, but so short lived. I would love to see and smell you two every day, but I am immortal. I will not age or die. Soon, your pedals will fall off, you will become dirt. Your seeds will go further and be replanted elsewhere to enjoy the new atmosphere. I... I will still walk the same path and be connected with the same fate." He took a big breath and sighed, "I envy mortals. They can choose whom to love and be loved by the person they desire in their hearts. One life time with someone you love and they love you is enough."

Syaoran stood up and started walking away, but suddenly he turned around and stared at the two dying flowers again. Then he thought of something. He is immortal. Everything about him is immortal. His blood is immortal. If he waters the flowers with blood, they will also become immortal. He can save them with his blood, and observe and smell them every day. They will be with him for eternity. He will not walk this path alone. He will no longer need to talk to his own shadow.

Syaoran took out a hairpin, he cut open all his left fingers, and blood dripped from his fingers to the flowers. The color of the flowers changed immediately. When he observed carefully, the two flowers turned bright, and the sweet purple of the flowers gradually returned to their original color. There was a big smile on his face. In the past thousand years, he has never felt so happy.

Syaoran smiled, "If we are destined to be each other's partners, you two must not die. If you two are still alive, I will bring you two home." He bent down and smelled the sweetness of the flowers. Then he walked away.

Syaoran went up Mount Tortoise. Once a month, he will visit his old friend Jinqui. The two friends play chess and enjoy their tea.

Jingui is an thousand years old sea turtle. Jingui senses something different about his longtime friend. On the fifteen day of each month, when his friend came to play chess, he is always so gloomy like he carrying the whole world on his back. Today, he is different, he is cheerful and have a smile on his face, his green eyes is alive when the direct sunlight hit his green iris.

Jingui said slowly, "Today, there is something different about you."

Syaoran, "Really?" Syaoran refused to make eyes contact.

Jingui said, "You seem to be alive." Jingui studied Syaoran. "I have known you for a thousand years. l can feel when there is something different about you, old friend."

Syaoran gave his old friend a smiled. Jingui never thought that one day he would see the fearsome Syaoran smile.

Jingui asked, "Tell me. Would you like to share your happiness with your old pale? If there is a problem, I can help you. Two heads are better than one."

Syaoran smiled and said, "During my journey...I saw two dying flowers. They are the most beautiful of all other flowers." Then he frowned, "We are all created the same way, breathing the same air. Why some are mortal and other are not?"

Jingui replied sipping his tea, "Rules are rules. We don't set the rules. We live by the rules."

Syaoran tried to reason with Jingui, "I know, but some people are immortal and others are mortal. This is unfair. After you die, I really don't have any friend who understand me like you. If I don't have a life partner to accompany me throughout my life, I hope those two flowers can be my life companions. I live among the Horsemen, among the animals on the mountain, and I watch them die one by one. I want a soulmate who understand me." He paused. "So, I decided to water the two flowers with my blood."

One must have a lot of patience when talked with Jingui. He spoke softly and slowly. He choked on the tea, coughed several times, and cleared his throat. He slowly shook his head and looked at Syaoran.

Jingui slowly said, "You are immortal. A God. A symbol of faith. Before taking any action, you must think carefully."

Syaoran, "I did. If men can choose their soulmate, why can I?"

Jingui said, "Don't be stubborn. You are no man. You are a god."

Syaoran looked away very upset, "Maybe... I don't want to be a god. I would rather have one short life as a man and be with someone I love, than be a lonely immortal god who talk to his own shadow." Syaoran frowned stubbornly. "I have to go."

Jingui, "Why are you rushing? We have not finish our tea and our game."

Syaoran, "See you next month." He rushed out of the stone pavilion.

Syaoran didn't have much hope for his return journey. He stopped, then hesitated. If he passes this rock, there will be the flower field. He didn't want to see failed experiments, but at the same time, he was eager to find answers. He slowed down. When he reached that path, the two flowers were already fully alive. Syaoran was so happy he dug the two flowers up and took them home.

Syaoran lives alone in a beautiful valley full of wildlife and wildflowers. Next to his tree house, there is a beautiful small waterfall.

Syaoran watered the two flowers with his blood every day. He recited poems to them. The more he talks with the two flowers, the lonelier he becomes. A few months passed, and his heart was sad again.

In the month of December, Syaoran journeyed to play chess with his friend alone. At this time of the year, snow covers the northern mountains. The once beautiful green landscape is now just a lonely white land with no source of life. He walked through the flower field. There are no living plants, no wild life, he only hears the wind howling, dry leaves rustling as the wind passes by. He turned around, there was only one set of footprints on the road. The frustrated lonely winter was exactly what he felt at that time.

A female voice whispered into Syaoran's ear, "Your Grace."

Syaoran calmly said, "Where are you, show yourself now?"

The female voice, "I'm everywhere."

Syaoran asked, "What do you want?"

The female voice laughed, "Perhaps, I should be the one asking."

Syaoran saw thick black smoke gradually forming fog.

Syaoran lowered down his voice, "You shouldn't be here. Go back where you come from and no harm shall come to you."

The female voice said slowly in a lusty voice, "I have been watching you for several years. I know what you want and most desires. Perhaps, we can reach an agreement."

Syaoran, "I have everything I need." He frowned. "Now, you go back."

The female voice was surprised, "Really? Then why do you envy mortal men, my grace?" Dark clouds hovering around Syaoran. It quotes, "I envy mortals. They can choose whom to love and be loved by the person they desire in their hearts. One life time with someone you love and they love you is enough." It laughed lustily.

Syaoran closed his eyes and smiled, "You have been following me. Get out of here now, or your soul will be lost forever by my strike."

The smoky dark cloud began to fade away, and the lustily voice said slowly, "Oh... so much pride. Perhaps... you don't want to know how those two flowers can become human." The dark mist laughed, and then despaired in the air.

Syaoran stayed there for a while. He froze in time with the winter snow. The last words of the voice echoed in his mind over and over again. When he finally came to realization, the heavy snow had covered his footprints. He decided to walk to the small village at the bottom of the mountain instead of visiting his old friend.
