Chapter 2 - Welcome Home

The day had progressed as normal for Steven. A simple dinner with his mother and sister, followed by a quick shower. He finds himself laying down staring at the ceiling. Watching the blades of the fan rotate, one by one. Steven couldn't shake what he saw. It was glued to his psyche.

He looked over to his nightstand, where the locket now sat. "Is there a point to this," he thought. "Or should I just throw it away?"

"Well it's not gonna go anywhere so I guess I'll leave it for future me." Steven promptly turned off the light and rolled over.

Several hours pass with nothing abnormal. At least nothing abnormal to Brianna. Her body ached and felt as if she had woke up from a coma.

She sat up in her bed and began to look around. Something was different yet she couldn't quite place it. Maybe she was too groggy to figure it out. All she knew is she desperately had to use the bathroom.

She stumbled over to the door to the right of her bed and turned on the light. In typical fashion, she found herself completely blind for a few seconds. Keeping her head down she headed for the toilet.

After relieving herself and cleaning up she began to walk back to the bed. She turned off the light and looked at the nightstand. A little golden locket was resting on a stack of sports magazines.

Brianna reached for the light switch and picked up the locket. It was different from what she remembered. "Where'd this little scratch come from, and why is there little red specs all over it?" She put the locket back down and turned the light off once again.

She crawled in to bed and began to go back to sleep. She was too tired to investigate her locket. That was something she'd do when she awoke again.

The sound of birds chirping and horns blasting startled Steven awake. He looked over to his bedroom window seeing his curtains were wide open. The sun welcomed him by attempting to melt his eyes. "Jesus fuck, why are my curtains open."

Steven promptly jumped out of bed and blocked the suns harmful rays. After getting dressed Steven walked in the hall to get slammed in to by Amy.

"Dude really?"

"I'm sorry Stevie. I'm just so excited for school!"

"Well fucking take your excitement somewhere else. It's too early for that much energy."

Amy pushes Steven back. "You're always a jerk in the morning!"

A cool breeze rolled in over Steven's right shoulder, causing him to shudder. Steven didn't give it any thought though and progressed through his morning routine.

First he went to the basement and did a light workout. Mostly cardio, with a little bit of upper body. While drinking a protein shake, he climbed the stairs and headed to the bathroom. A quick shower and he was practically ready for school.

There was still 30 minutes before he had to be at school so he grabbed a bowl of cereal. At the dining room table sat his mom. She was a middle aged woman with blond frizzy hair. She was heavier set but still clearly active. Her eyes were remarkably similar to Steven's. The shimmered whilst reading her newspaper.

"It's not ever day you decide to eat twice in a morning." Her voice was calming but a little scratchy.

"I don't know, I guess I'm a little more hungry today."

"Where you out late making bad choices!"

"Really mom, you know I'm not one for partying."

"I know I know." She chuckled. "Maybe it's more growing. You may be 17 but you've still got more spurts in ya."

"Whatever it is it's rumbling." Steven poured himself a bowl and wolfed it down. He wasn't sure why he was so hungry. It felt as if he hadn't eaten in years. This with his extra sleepy demeanor made for a strange morning.

He placed the bowl in to the sink, rinsing it out. Again he felt a cool breeze on his shoulder. Though he didn't bother to connect it to the other one. After this shudder the feeling didn't disappear though.

It felt as him something was breathing down his neck. A tad bit of cool air bouncing off his collar, followed by nothing. This repeated for a second. Each breath tensing his muscles more. He swung around to see nothing there. He sighed in relief. He heart tightened as he notice his breath appearing before his eyes.

"Jesus fuck. I'm leaving."

Steven bolted for his bag, then the door. Before reaching the door his mom came around the corner

"You don't have school for 20 more minutes. What's the hurry?"

"Uh, I forgot I was supposed to meet someone before school. I'm actually late right now."

His mother didn't seem to flinch to such a blatant lie. "Alright well tell your friend I said hi."

"Will do! Love you mom."

"Love you too. She paused and then yelled up the stairs. "Amy finish up! It's time to go!"

Steven promptly departed for school.
