Chapter 7 - Chapter 7

Finished with testing the new ability I was left slightly disappointed. Unfortunately through experimenting, I found I could not put in living organisms, which I tried with many unsuspecting insects. Furthermore, objects within could not be dropped and could only be removed from the space by placing my hand in and selecting the object.

"There goes the gate of Babylon idea"

Having been impressed by the ability from one of my favorite series. I tried implementing multiple methods to launch objects through space to cause massive damage. However, dreams are left dreams for a reason and my outward stretched arms were the only thing moving in the space I occupied. Thankfully the ability did allow me to put in any objects under 2m allowing for massive storage. Although the Dimensional storage had no offensive power the sheer utilitarian use it brought to the table, mixed with the pink rank of Epic left little else to be desired. We all know Epic is a high rank through many video games.

After my extensive testing with the miraculous ability, I began putting in items to prepare for the approaching dangers.

Here's a question. What item would you consider the most useful in a possible post-apocalyptic scenario?

It's salt, good old-fashioned salt dah.

Piling objects through the whole clearly not affected by the small opening the objects flowed through relentlessly. After finishing looting the small section of the store I occupied I turned around and began to fill the backpack near me. You may wonder with a storage-based ability why would I need a bag. Well that's simple I know I have storage abilities but for those with decent intelligence, seeing me leave an obvious grocery shop buck empty of any food would look suspicious after all the survivors passed the door seemed to be looting to their heart's content. I had no desire to show anyone my ability, keeping it well hidden and removing any food from the bag on my back. After all if past these doors the Army had taken control of the situation I may become a guineapig.

Grabbing the two kitchen knives near me, I slid them through the belt on my waist and a loop attached to my left forearm, for both defensive and easier to grab. The cool steel rubbed over my skin under the filthy jacket, obscured from view but with ease of access. Unfortunately, the flimsiness accompanied by these small knives was not very reassuring compared to the clubs wielded by the monsters. The truth was that household knives would only penetrate a few times before becoming worn and dull, however, that was enough for me to test my earlier hypothesis. Slinging one club over my back in between the bag and another in my right hand, both graciously given to me by the three musketeers.

My current costume a mix of a clown from the colourful bag and steam punk-like clothes, unfortunately, did not add an edge to my current vibe as I sauntered through the double door making my way to the back exit. My clothes clearly not helping, however, the scowl on my face and my previous action allowed me to flow through the panic-stricken crowd with only light murmurs around me.

" Hey, where are you going Raza. You know you'll get killed out there right. I think you should stay here with us "

Turning around a smooth 180, my sight landed on the calmest individual other than myself.

" Ha, I appreciate the love mate but I don't swing that way"

"Don't worry if I die that'll be on me along with six feet of dirt"

Jordan simply sighed at my comment clearly unimpressed by my humor. My humor probably being one of the reasons why I was never in the popular club but I didn't care anyway.

"Alright man its your life after all. Stay safe out there were going to wait here until help arrives"

Glancing at his face, it was clear that the words spoken were empty, him clearly happier than anything of a potential competitor leaving adorned a smile on his face. The others here might think all the monsters were dead, but I had a feeling there was a much worse monster here, and them all being grown individuals added with the fact that they preferred me gone with there deathly stares allowed me to leave with no regrets of not warning these lost sheep.

Swiveling around once more I peered through the glass on the door. Unfortunately, this side had no larger windows to see out of so seeing through the small clearing was the only choice. Going out the front door would be obvious suicide as any hiding monsters would you see walk past the overly large windows. Through the glass, my eyes darted on the backyard of the store. Trucks used for deliveries on both ends along the side of an impressively large fence. Eyes darting absorbing information on any crevice and vantage point I could gain I finally saw a sneaky creature. This one clearly waiting for a fresh pray. Only seeing this creature through luck by following the blood trails on the ground leading to the coroner. It seemed one of the drivers met a rather unfortunate and grim end, nut that allowed me to see the creature almost blended in with the grey metallic gates.

The creature in question was taller than the green ones from before. Having long slender arms ending in tipped talons still covered in fresh blood. Narrow shoulders and skin a dark greyish colour looking adorned of life. The frame standing a tall 6'4 on large springy legs finished with a very complimenting face. Not complimenting in a good way but very, very bad for me. Rows of jagged teeth curing over the creatures minuscule lips almost like a shredder. It was clear that this creature was made to kill. Due to the particular appearance, I named it a ghoul. With such striking similarities and a name suiting it perfectly already, what was there to refuse. The only good news was that the newly named ghoul was alone. Clearly showing it was a solitary creature unlike the goblins from before. Had there been more I may have lost hope. Seeing that the weapons would undeniably be speed as it held nothing, I visited my stat sheet to assign the previously gained point hoping to gain an edge. I dumped them all into agility as that seemed the obvious choice.

Having confirmed my option I was embraced by a stifling warmth. My joints and tendons felt looser almost moving instantly when thought. The obvious increase to my perception showed as the voices behind seemed slightly slower. This could have resulted from the boosted nervous system. Feeling as prepared as possible armed with my new highest physical stat turned to address those behind me.

"I'm going out through these doors. I'm going to leave them open encase I have to rush back so don't you dare close them. I'm outa here "

Seeing my voice land on deaf ears but the obvious fear in their eyes indicated that they wouldn't do something stupid, hopefully. Giving a quick not to Jordan I clasped the club tightly, the white of my knuckles showing. Firmly grabbing the door I pushed through using my increased force relieved as it opened unobstructed. Going through the glowing frame the sun now visible.

"Hey sun, yeah brilliant time to come out when the monsters come. Let's all have a vacation now, not all those times before."

My eyes transfixing back to the location of the ghoul and landing on nothing. My heart pumped fiercely attempting to push out of my chest and then instinctually raising my left arm, the extra points clearly not gone to waste. The searing pain flowed from my left arm the kitchen knife barely saving it from being broken as I catapulted away from the entrance. Forcing myself to look past the large ghoul I saw Jordan smile as he gruffly slammed the door shut.

"Grrr that dchde cedb hdbhe traitorous guy"

The injury making my verbal abuse come out as noises. Growling I stood feeling my left arm by slowly opening and closing my hand. Thankfully it didn't seem broken.

"Of course the door would close, the door always closes you should have learned by now"

Berating myself for another silly mistake. An overlook on my part which could have lead to a very bad ending. Thankfully I invested the point before leaving otherwise my head would be missing a body.

Pushing of the ground I launched myself toward the ghoul flexing the club in my right hand. The best defense is offense after all. Stopping just before colliding I swiveled on my outstretched right foot swinging my arm around building momentum. Narrowly missing the mighty paw ripping through the air I brought the club down in a mighty thump landing squarely on the creature collarbone. The ghoul clearly having not fought an armed opponent ignored the weapon and charged forward attempting to rip me through with its claws. It cut deeply gnashing my already injured left arm now a sacrifice for my life as I swung it down once more on the collar breaking it with a sickening crunch. I rolled backward across the floor, soaking it in warm red blood as I regained my balance. The ghoul not giving me a chance charged forward, half its body hanging behind due to the injury, opening its maws wide to devour me in an instant. I fought to regain my balance the hot pain searing my nerves and once more awkwardly launched back into the rough metal of the truck. The ghoul angered by missing its prey launched forward not showing any hesitation as it opens its mouth wide once again. Backed to the corner I did the only thing I could, thankfully the years of boxing experience allowed me to narrowly bob and weave avoiding the first attack from its mouth and the subsequent arm. Sliding across the truck I pushed forward into the monster causing us both to tumble to the ground, its claws missing and sinking into the sheet metal of the truck like knife through butter. I stood quickly the creature's arm stuck from penetrating to far into the truck and brought the club down to meet its face realising an arc of blue blood high into the sky. The blood masking my face like a camouflage of blue as I struck repeated heavy blows to my downed opponent.

The stillness of the corpse mixed with the exploded skull calmed my raging heartbeat threatening to pump one too many times. Collapsing to the floor I took a heap full of quick breathes to bring my heartbeat down. Turning to look at the creature I realized that during that fight the creature was not as fast as me. Clearly experienced in darting in and out to catch prey, but lacking close quarters combat ultimately led to my victory. Realizing my earlier stupidity to fight a monster I knew nothing about having been taken over by the excitement of my abilities made me think to approach future threats more cautiously. Pulling out the knife I attempted to force the knife into the monster however even after all my force I couldn't penetrate the thick hide. This was all the information I needed to confirm my earlier hypothesis.

Standing quickly to search my surroundings whilst flipping a finger towards the glass of the door, I confirmed no more irregularities in the surrounding. Gathering my thoughts I stalked of towards the gate hoping to leave this accursed place as soon as possible.
