Chapter 5 - Decisions, decisions, decisions

`` = quotation marks

Enrico looked on behind a shelf, seeing the cashier being held up at gunpoint by a man holding a shotgun. Enrico mentally scolds the man for using a shotgun as anyone with a single brain cell would know that shotguns aren't good since they take long to reload, especially during a robbery.

Enrico just continued to look, he thought about all the possibilities, all the outcomes of this encounter and what did he decide to do?

Nothing. Absolutely nothing. There was no reason for him to do anything. The only way anyone would get hurt was if the cashier tried to fight back, the robber fired his gun (whether it was on purpose or not didn't matter) and the other was if he intervened.

So Enrico just waited, watching everything go down.

The cashier was sweating, he'd never been in a situation like this and he didn't know what was going to happen to him if he didn't comply with the robber's orders. He was sure that he'd die but due to his fear, he was making stuff up in his head.

As he handed the robber the money from the cash register they both heard something get knocked over behind the counter. Then something else got knocked over a little further down, both the robber and the cashier stared at the end of the counter, waiting for whatever did that.

After a bit of waiting, they found out what knocked over those things.

A rat. A very odd-looking rat.

The rat had scarlet fur with a thicker coat covering its neck, yellow eyes and the word GΔCT written everywhere except its face.

Everyone including Enrico was confused when out of nowhere another rat, identical to the first, appeared.

Enrico was the most confused as he felt a connection of sorts to the rats but he couldn't figure out why. The cashier seeing the opportunity tried to take the shotgun only to shake the robber out of his stupor. They both wrestled for control of the shotgun until the robber managed to riggle it free from the cashier but, in doing so shot him.

Terrified of what he just did he ran out of the store, leaving the money behind.

Enrico meanwhile had stopped paying attention to the two and started to pay attention to the rats, after all, they had a similar design to the arm that appeared when he punched the bathroom wall.

Enrico watched as the rats turned right towards the front of the shop after smelling something. He was going to continue to follow them but as soon as he turned the corner the rats disappeared. While he was definitely shocked at who fast they disappeared from view, he accepted it nonetheless, after all, what else could he do.

Feeling slightly disappointed at the disappearance of the two strange rats, Enrico started to make his way towards the entrance but stopped after noticing the money on the counter.

Giving it a good think over he decided to not take it. Suddenly he noticed something, the cashier was missing. Looking over the counter Enrico saw the cashier on the floor, blood flowing from the hole in his stomach.

The only thing Enrico could do at that moment was smile, he'd wonder how the arrow would react to other people and now was the time to do so. Taking out the stone arrow Enrico jumped over the counter and bent over the dying cashier. He raised the arrow over his head before jamming it into the man's hand.

Enrico waited and waited and waited, yet no matter how much he waited nothing happened.

Feeling his disappointment rise Enrico felt like his day was being ruined. Getting up he removed the arrow from the cashier's hand and headed back to his hotel unaware of the numerous eyes watching him from the shadows.
