Chapter 10 - Forget Me Not -Ch 9

Dream laughed. "Nice try, George."

George looked serious. "Um..Do I know you-? Where even am I?!"

Dream froze, a shiver going up his spine. "You're serious?"

"Why wouldn't I be? I mean, you sound familiar, but I dunno.."

His heart dropped like a stone. It shattered like shards of ice for the second time within less than 12 hours. "W-what?"

George looked around, bewildered. "What is this- am I in a hospital?!"

"D-do you actually not r-remember m-e?" His voice started cracking in pain.

"I'm serious! Why am I in a hospital?!"

Anxiety started slowly creeping up all throughout his body. "U-uhm I f-found you passed out on the f-floor, s-so I call-" He took in a shaky breath. "I called the ambulance."

"Oh.." He hesitated. "So- who are you? You sound really similar to one of my friends.. but I've never seen him before."

"U-uhm first, how much do you remember-?"

He thought for a moment. "I remember uhm- I was getting ready to go to the airport.."

"Wait. so how do-"

"Nevermind. Okay, well I'm Dream, u-uhm, yeah. We met up and you were staying at my apartment and yesterday I-.." He paused. "I just wanna say sorry, even though you might not remember what had happened."

"What do you mea-" He stopped mid-sentence as they both heard footsteps getting louder and louder. A doctor walked into the room.

"Hello, are you Clay?"

"I am." He responded dully.

"Okay, so George's mother wasn't able to make it here for some reason.. Anyways, we've found out that George was hyperventilating, and as we found him at your estate, he must've become unconscious and fell back, causing him to hit his head, giving him a concussion. We asked if he remembered anything, and he couldn't recall where he was or why he was. We think he has some memory loss, but it can be restored. He'll be staying here only for a few days." She waited for a comment, in which Dream had nothing to say. He was speechless.

"I'll leave you guys to chat." Just as quickly as she came, she left.

Dream froze in shock, tears filling his eyes. He blinked, making tears spill out onto his cheeks.

He turned to George. "G-george please, just remember me. I'm Dream, I'm your best f-friend."

"Uhm.." George shuffled in his bed uncomfortably.

"Please! I'm sorry.. I'm so sorry.." He lowered his head, tears gushing out. "How can I prove to you that it's me.."

"Uhm... I dunno, I guess. What's your real name?

"C-clay."

"Who's your best friends and their real names?"

"You, which you're George, and Sapnap, and he's Nick."

"Hmm..Only Dream would know this, but what did I once say that I wanted to go to ask someone out?"

"Uhhh, you never told me anything like that??"

George smiled. "So it is you. I was wondering why you sounded so familiar." He giggled. "Well, since I've never told you this, it's a gazebo."

Dream half-heartedly laughed. "Cringee."

"W- whatever. I'm tired, I'm gonna go back to sleep. Come see me later today or something. Also, you look a lot different from what I expected, but not in a bad way."

Dream smiled weakly, and left the room. He decided to go check up on his mom as well, because she was transported to the same hospital, ironically.

โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”

Dream sat in his house, scrolling through twitter. He sighed. It felt so empty and strange without George screaming at him or something. Even though he'd only been there for a few days, Dream had gotten used to the ruckus. Even if they weren't with each other in person, they'd still be calling each other. It made him feel so lonely. He missed him so much.

As he shut off his phone, his stomach grumbled. He clutched his stomach, got up, and dragged his feet to the pantry, it being full of the groceries he and George had bought a couple days ago. He decided to take out a ramen noodle package, but hesitated. The voices started finding their way throughout his head.

They hissed.

George would want me to eat, and it's not my fault.

๐˜-

He realized the voices had a point. Why should he be able to eat when George was stuck in a hospital clueless? It was his fault. He decided to put the pizza back, even though his stomach protested. He took a glass of water and chugged it down.

โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”

The second day of George being in the hospital was hard for Dream. It felt so different. He wasn't used to the fact he couldn't hear George's voice unless he went to see him sitting in a hospital bed looking miserable. Dream chugged down another glass of water, realizing a few minutes later he had to go to the bathroom.

Dream walked into the bathroom and quickly used the toilet. As he was washing his hands, he noticed his razor placed next to his toothbrush. He started at it for a while in debate, while shutting off the water and drying his hands. He hesitated for a moment as he reached out to grab it.

Dream took a shower, pain seeping through his cuts from the pressure and heat of the shower water. He did his best to ignore the water that turned into a slightly red color when it fell from his arms and the sting of the water against his skin. He sighed, turning off the shower head and drying himself off. He got dressed and decided to lay in his bed and watch youtube. His arms stung, but he did his best to ignore it.

Soon, it grew to be night and Dream decided to try sleep off all of the pain he felt, physically and mentally.
