"Keep dreaming smartass!"
Assisted by a middle finger that was thrown my way, that was all I got from the girl whose life I just saved. Doesn't hurt that she was sassy and witty, not like anyone else around here. You can tell she ain't easy to fool with good looks alone.
I can't help but think that she looks so familiar. The entire situation had me thinking the entire way home. There was no way that she's an ex. I would have never let that go.
I didn't have anywhere to be but taking a walk around helped clear my head. Other than today I haven't seen a lot of demon attacks around town. They all seem to scatter when I head their way, and I never knew why. The one that attacked the girl on the bridge has been the only one bold enough to even come at me and she wasn't even worth the purification.
This makes me wonder why demons like her are even attracted to girls like that. Is it because she seems weak physically or weak minded? Picking on the weaker beings...stealing away their life force just to get another chance at life?? It's cowardly and I'd never stand for it, but for now all I can do is help those people.
I guess I must've been so lost in thought that I didn't notice who had walked up right in front of me I flinched when she wrapped her arms around me and blinked.
"Wooow, I see how it is! I've been calling you for at least the last five minutes and I don't get any kind of response until I hug you. Is that how we're treating our childhood friends now?"
Her voice seemed as calm as always with a hint of her childish spark that could make anyone smile. That's Sapphire for you.
"Sorry Sapph, I just stumbled on something unusual today…or should I say someone? I don't know but it was pretty weird."
I hug her back bending over a little bit to wrap my arms around her small frame because of our height difference, her being five foot seven and me being six foot two. We both soon let go as Sapph takes a step back with a new confused look on her face.
"SomeONE unusual? In the world that we live in? What could possibly top unusual when we've got demons and angels running around? We're literally living in our own fairytales."
I can only really shrug but I can't help thinking about it. Sapphire notices, sighing when she finally comes to the conclusion that I won't snap out of whatever I'm thinking about.
"Alright alright, come talk to me about it, let me see how I can help. If this person gets THIS much attention from you then they've got to be something special."
Sapphire gestures for me to follow her into a building not too far from here with the words "Demon Research HQ" labeled on it. For a minute I'd forgotten that Sapph was a professional scientist and doctor that works for one of the biggest research groups out there. And she's only twenty one?? I'm proud of her.
Anyways, as I follow her into the building she leads me into the lounge where I take a seat. She sits in front of me with her legs crossed over one another, ready to listen. You'd think people would be under more pressure or that the places around here would look worse due to the different attacks every now and then, but people seem to either just rebuild places and act like nothing happened or leave it as is, destroyed.
I have to take a minute to think over everything that really happened today before I tell her about the girl I found. She is a scientist after all it's not like I'm exactly sure what that girl was in the first place. I went on until the end, which ended with her flipping me off and how I'd come back with Sapphire. Sapph listened through the whole thing, nodding at certain parts and throwing in a "mhmm" every now and then to let me know that she was listening so that I could keep going. At the end she looked at the floor and held her chin in one of her hands. She looked like she was thinking about something, which didn't happen very often because she wasn't the type to look all serious. When she didn't reply after a while, I waved my hands in front of her face and tried to crack a joke to break the ice.
"Earth to Sapphire please respond, you're scarin' me a lil' bit by looking so serious. What happened to the childish girl who pouts like a six year old whenever she doesn't get her way??"
Sapph instantly brightens her mood when the biggest smile spreads across her face and she playfully swatted at one of my hands.
"Oh shut up! I do NOT pout whenever I don't get my way!"
"Oh ShUt uP! I dO nOt PoUt wHeNeVER I Don'T geT mY wAY!"
I mocked her, which only made her roll her eyes and cross her arms against her chest as she tilted her head.
"Alright then Alexander I guess you really must not want to know what my input is on the situation.."
She started to get up and pretend that she was leaving, so I sighed and had to basically beg her to come back.
"Okay okay I was only kidding I promise, take a joke. Come back and tell me what you think please because I'm running into a brick wall trying to figure any of this out."
I could already see the grin on her face before she turned around came back and now it was my turn to roll my eyes. This girl had me wrapped around her finger and she knew it, in a friendly way of course. Sapph then sat back in her seat and looked at me.
"So personally I've never really heard of a girl who looks like that. Everyone around here seems all boring and bland, or the same. I'd totally remember and question a person if I saw them walking around with fiery orange hair, that's mysterious.."
A certain dark look that I'd never seen before suddenly swept over Sapph's face that I didn't recognize. It made my eyebrows crease as I watched her.
"Why are you so worried about this girl though? What is she to you? Your girlfriend or something??"
