As much as I want to say that things shouldn't have ended like this, I can't say that I'm surprised. I've been tempted for a while now to just let the demons take over, yet I'm hesitating because it's about to happen. Maybe it's the fact that the choice wasn't mine or maybe it's the small percentage of me that actually still wants to live for some reason. Either way, I managed to calm down once I realized that there's no reasoning with Nova. Speaking of the devil, there goes her voice again.
"Any last words?"
I'd roll my eyes if I had the ability to, but instead I just replied in a sarcastic tone.
"Do I even have a choice in the matter, my little superNova? Even if I wasn't ready you'd still go through with it anyways."
Nova's voice suddenly became dark and monstrous.
"Well then...TIME TO DIE!"
I inhaled and closed my eyes as my body started to fall. This was it, this was my end. Although if I could have another chance, I'd go out more...and stop living this life I had in fear...
It was when I started to fall that I heard a voice in the background calling out.
???: "Hey wait up! What the hell are you doing?!!"
I was waiting for my body to hit the water, waiting to feel the water enter my lungs and see what the darkness really felt like. I noticed that Nova had left my body and I had control again. Slowly I opened my eyes and looked down to see that I was dangling just feet above the body of water. Panic sets in and I squirm before the newfound grip on my left wrist tightened. I then heard somebody grunt.
???: "Ughh, stop moving! You weigh like a hundred n' something pounds, I'm not Superman. Give me your other hand so I can get you back on the bridge."
When I look up, I see a guy around the same age as me with dark curly brown hair and hazel eyes. Attractive, but he probably already knew that much. So I give him my other hand and he pulls me up back onto the bridge. I kiss the ground and sigh of relief.
"Thank GOD! I was not tryna die today."
When I look back over, the tall six foot stranger is sitting not too far away from me, with an unreadable look on his face. I couldn't tell if he was confused, angry or just plain weird. Probably all three. We sit there for a good while, staring at each other in silence. Right as I was about to open my mouth to say something though Nova appears...talk about a party crasher.
"Sorry to put a stop to your little staring contest, but you and I have unfinished business girly."
She winks at me and I feel my blood start to boil. I can already tell that if I allow myself to become any more frustrated than this, it'll show what I truly am. I have to be careful. I stand up about to get into a fighting position before Hakeem steps in front of me, stopping me in my tracks.
"Don't. I'll handle this."
I look up at him confused.
"Do I look helpless? Try again. I don't NEED to be saved."
No matter what I would've said though, he ignored me. He stepped forward, his eyes turning white while Nova dashed towards us with her claws blaring and a bone-chilling aura surrounding her. He raised his hands up, a large beam of white light stopped Nova in her tracks. The beam trapped her and all you could hear were screams with the sizzling of burning flesh in the background. He was... purifying her??
The only ones that have the power to purify anything... are angels. Curiosity seemed to get the best of me as I found myself blurting it out after he'd finished turning Nova into ash.
"Soooooo... strange attractive guy who saved my life... are you...an a-"
He rudely cuts off my sentence like that's some normal thing to do..
"An angel? No, but my name is Hakeem, and you can repay me for saving your life by explaining exactly why you have the attention of all of the demons around here. They don't usually swarm around a simple human like that so why are you so special..?"
As he spoke, he kept stepping towards me, which cautiously made me take steps back. Yet it was no use, eventually I backed up into a pole and he was now standing two feet away. This Hakeem sure wants to know a lot for someone who barely even knows my name.. but it's not like I could tell him it even if he asked. His sharp thinking made me smile and slightly tilt my head to the side.
"I wonder who taught you to think outside the box. As much as I'd love to sit here and give you a whole run down of my life story mister...Hakeem, I've got places to be. Thanks for saving me though. Maybe we'll meet again under better circumstances."
With that, I slid past him and started heading back towards the way I came. I could feel his eyes on me as I walked, and before I got off the bridge, he called out to me.
"Hey, one more thing!"
I stopped and turned my head to look at him, raising an eyebrow in curiosity.
"Yeah what's up?"
I could practically hear the smirk in his voice as he answered back.
"Do you really think I'm attractive?"
It took everything in me not to roll my eyes to the back of my head. There's no turn off worse than a hot guy who's full of himself! Turning around for a quick second, I flipped him off as I continued to walk.
"Keep dreaming smartass!"
Even though I'd only met this guy once, I could tell that he's gonna be a thorn that's gonna get stuck in my side more than once. In other words, this won't be the last time we meet. He'll come around again. I'm not sure when, but I'll be waiting.
