Grace, Bandit, Smoke, Lu, and I were walking through the forest, looking for the group of cats Grace spoke of. She said, "We should be able to find them if we find a patch of flowers. Oliver loves flowers." I was happy that I still had a sister my age. She was having kits as well. With my tail up high, we searched for flower patches.
Bandit said, "I hear something in this direction." He pointed his nose east, so we followed Bandit until we found three cats feasting on a fish. Grace said, "Well that was easy. It hasn't even been an hour." Grace bounded to the cats, and they greeted her kindly. Bandit said, "She's telling them about us, but I think they're scared."
Grace signaled me to come out, and she said, "He's good. He's my brother!" A Maine Coon with yellow eyes said, "Name's Rooster." A Siamese walked up to me and said, "I'm Oliver." Then a Tuxedo cat said, "Hi! I'm Moe!" Grace asked Rooster, "Hey, you can group up with us and the wild cats if you want. We need Oliver and Moe to dig tunnels."
Rooster glared at her and said, "We better not get eaten alive." He walked towards the bushes where the others are, and he said, "Nothing escapes my eyes. You can come out." Lu said, "Ugh, let's just go so I can check on Grace, please." Rooster rolled his eyes, and he signaled Oliver and Moe to follow him. Smoke and I took the lead, and we went back to the camp.
When we got there, Salt hissed angrily. Moe said, "Wait, is that Salt?" Rooster grumbled, "Yeah it's him." Jay wasn't in the clearing, but everyone else was. Moe was greeting everybody, while Oliver was talking to Grace. Rooster stayed near me, and Smoke went back to Yuna. Bandit was chasing Moe all around the camp, and Lu was in her den.
Rooster asked me, "So who's the one in charge?" I said, "A cat named Jay. He isn't here at the moment." Rooster glanced at me and said, "Well it kind of seems like you're the leader. You look over all of the cats like a leader." I looked down at my paws and said, "I'm not really a leader type." Before Rooster could reply, Jay came back and he said, "Wait you found them already?"
Smoke came up and started talking to Jay. Rooster said, "Is that Jay?" I said, "Yeah. He led us out here, but this whole thing is mainly about me." Rooster's tail swayed angrily, and he asked, "Protect you from what?" I said, "From my brother. One of the kings of this forest." Rooster said, "I understand, but do you want this?"
I sighed, and said, "I made a vow. I vowed that I will never kill a cat. If I started a civil war, it would be my fault." Rooster snorted and said, "You can't escape death or killing. Someday you may not have a choice." Jay walked up to us, and he said, "Then you must be Rooster." I look at the two stare at each other with looks of challenge.
Then Jay said, "Listen up. I'm the boss around here, so get digging." Rooster glared at him and said, "You act like a child." Before Jay could say anything back, Rooster walked off, and while doing so, he hit Jay in the face with his tail. Jay growled, "He'll pay for that. Why were you even talking to him?" I said, "Why not? Besides, we still haven't chosen a leader since Lu chewed you out."
Jay's eyes lit up and he said, "We need to vote then. Everyone! Come here!" Everyone, including the new guys, came over, and Jay said, "We still don't technically have a leader, so why don't we vote?" Lu gave him a toothy grin and said, "Sure bud. But I'll choose the ones to be chosen." She chose Jay, Smoke, and I.
Jay said, "Wait, you choose Birch to- but... why?" Lu growled, "Shut up, you fool! Let the vote commence! The new cats don't have to choose! You can take your time to decide!" Instantly, Lu and Grace chose me, and Bell chose Jay. A few moments Bandit and Yuna chose Smoke, and Quinn walked over to Jay. Echo walked to me, and Salt sniffed his way to Jay.
It's been a few minutes because of the tie, Rooster got up and chose me. This didn't surprise Lu, and she announced, "Birch is the new leader of the rebels!" I just wanted to fall into a pit and stay there for a while. I was the new leader, so Jay is definitely going to tell me all of his ideas for the rebellion, and I'm going to feel crushed by all of the responsibilities.
Before I walked away, Rooster gave me a look that said "you can do it".
