Luna bit her nails, so tensed that she even started chewing the skin on her finger. She was being tortured as her mind jumbled, with no clue of a distinct decision to make!
"Is it that hard?" Kaden asked, amused.
"It's the same feeling of picking dieting over pizza!" She answered, her silliness splitting him a second of a chuckle.
"Let me help you then," Turning towards her, he continued, "Luna had a lot of enemies masking as her well-wishers while Hazel have nothing more than a normal pity life!"
He waited, his only wish was for her to understand the second part of his line.
Luna blankly stared at him, "It really didn't help!"
Leaning back on the couch, she questioned, "But who are you by the way?"
"Are you a duck by birth or a human?"
"No, wait it looks like a duckling!" She continued, pointing to the yellow duck on the ground.
"Wait, are you an immortal?"
"Do ducks also have superpowers like vampires and other creatures?"
"Why are you helping me?"
"Do you also have a system?"
"Have you met God? Are you a God's son?"
"No, wait are you his follower? You work for him?"
"Have you visited heaven? How about hell?"
"Do you know Lucifer then?"
"Are you," Kaden closed her mouth with his hand truly irritated and his touch was cold and electrifying, something so new that she felt as if being haunted by a handsome devil!
"Concentrate on your business! Not mine!" He chided, looking into her eyes with his blue mints deeper than an ocean. He was not a human, she could sense just by his aura. Oh, wait, even his looks shouted that he was from a faraway world!
Removing his hand, he got up and declared, "You have a minute. Decide your path!"
Lured by his seriousness, Luna closed her eyes, things mix-matched in her head, her past, her present, her fans, her family everything crossed in front of her eyes, of course, 2x speed.
Opening her eyes, she took a long breath and with determination, she answered, "I will choose revenge as my path."
Nodding, Kaden took out a device something similar to a watch band. He was running out of time and he needed to get back to hell, only if he didn't wish to suffer more.
Pressing the button on it, he wrapped it around her wrist and added, "Congratulations, your system has been upgraded. It will now assign you the tasks relating to the route of revenge, it will also enhance your skills to achieve the things you wish."
"You will be first rewarded with things of greater importance. As you level up, the system will guide you to reach your goal."
When she blankly stared at him, Kaden added, "Let me tell you this, you have chosen a very dangerous path and the quests will hold the same amount of viciousness. Be careful in your new way!"
"And never ever take out this watch!" He said, pointing at the watch.
Hazel just nodded even when she couldn't understand a single point he shared with her. Taking one last glance at her, Kaden sighed and got ready to leave.
"Wait Wait Wait!" Holding his beige coat, she questioned, "Can I get your number?"
He blinked at her, his lips slightly parted in surprise.
"If I need any help, how should I reach you?" She cleared, her hand still holding his coat.
Scratching his forehead, he looked at the time and sighed. Taking the notebook from the table, he noted down a number and passed it to her.
"Goodbye!" He mumbled before walking towards the bathroom.
"But the door is that wa," Her mouth widened as he carelessly walked through the wall. Blinking her eyes, she croaked her head, he really walked through the wall! Walking slowly, she touched the wall trying to push her hand inside and sighed in failure.
"Death was the better option!" Luna grumbled closing her eyes, her poor mind was still frenzying over the unrealistic things that were happening to her.
"But how did he come out of a duckling?"
"Is he a fox spirit something?" She mumbled, his identity was still a mystery to solve. With not much knowledge about the mythologies and supernatural creatures, Luna could only cry out in frustration.
[Congratulations, your system has been upgraded. Hope you have a good time with it.]
For the first time, Hazel heard that voice in her mind precisely. It was the same voice that had replied when she said stats at her mentor's order.
'Stats.' She demanded closing her eyes.
The only thing she didn't understand was the last aspect. Why would a mentor tag along with the system? In some of the system novels, she read so far there wasn't any category called mentor! All it had were things required in levelling up.
Her head again felt heavy with all questions rising one after the other. Shaking her thoughts, she took a long breath to keep herself calm.
Walking towards the kitchen, she opened the fridge, grabbing all the things that caught her eyes.
"I don't know if Ha Hazel is a beggar or sort off!" She mumbled placing all of them on the dining table.
Munching the Doritos, she opened the coke and drank it along. Her mind dwelled again, this time with the thoughts of Hazel.
Taking two more packets of Doritos, she walked to her bedroom. Turning on her laptop, she wiped her hands on the black coat that guy had given her earlier. And at that moment, her memories, her foolish rant of him being her fan started piling up and that only made her cry again in embarrassment.
"Now it makes sense about his drug comment!" Shaking her head in regret, she took off his coat and placed it aside. She tried her fingerprint and failed to log in, so using the password, she opened her laptop.
"Hazel Brown." Typing the name, she munched her chips waiting for all the results to show up.
The hundreds of profiles confused her, so she typed the city name and around 3 results came out a bit relatable.
"At least, she isn't a beggar!" She commented, opening the profile with the same new face she had.
The posts were simple, just like those of normal citizens making her nose twitch in disapproval.
"She is simple, very simple unlike me!" Her words surely held some disappointment.
'She is still 23, I can groom her into a new person!' Luna thought seeing more of her posts and also the people tagged along in a few pictures.
Taking the printouts of people and also a few of her pictures, Luna punched them into a file and smiled in satisfaction.
Then opening the resume Hazel had attached to her profile, Luna read through it. Her eyes widened looking at the qualification. A degree, wait double degree in Journalism and Mass Communication?
Rubbing her eyes, she moved closer to the laptop and scanned it again! And Hazel also worked as an intern in the prestigious AP news company? While all Luna had a high school certificate to brag about, huh now she regretted pursuing her arts degree.
"I did major in acting. That is tougher than reading books and writing exams!" Boosting herself, Luna tore another packet of chips. Taking a printout of it, she placed them aside and did a bit more research about Hazel, her new identity.
"What a nerd!"
"No boyfriends at all! Such a boring body I am blessed with!" With an annoyed look, she stared at her profile picture. And that thought reminded Kaden, questions about his identity resurfaced again.
Looking at the black watch, she tried pressing on it and blinked when the screen started revolving on its own.
"Hey, I am your system! Glad to meet you, master!"
And she almost choked hearing that cute duckish voice. Swirling on her chair, she turned around only to throw the chips packet in shock.
It was none but the rubber duck from earlier, it was even wearing a smile on its orange lips but made her cringe in shock. What was it now?
"You can give me a nickname if you wish." It added, moving forward and smiling at her.
"I will be always with you, so you don't need to feel alone. I can even make you laugh, comfort you if you are depressed. All you have to do is, press that button on your watch, I will be activated."
"Nice to meet you, too," Luna replied, forcing out a smile.
"Here is your first quest! Please make sure to do well and bring rewards to both of us." The duckling smiled and bowed before getting back to its toy life.
And Luna had no idea what was happening to her. Will she die in a panic because of all this system stuff? She literally was hoping for it now!
[Quest Activated - Attend Luna's Funeral]
[Side Quest Activated - Fight with Manager Lim]
That voice echoed one more time and Hazel widened her eyes.
Why would she attend her own funeral? And also fight with her sweet manager? That was not going to happen! Not at least in this lifetime!
She thought and Kaden's words immediately rushed back.
'Enemies masking as well-wishers!' That line made more sense now, it was also a clue this new quest held behind!
Wait, but how can a normal citizen meet the famous manager of the country? There was no way, those bulky bouncers of hers would never allow her to go near him, considering how miserable he would be at her funeral.
