Noele descended from the sky. Lizern corpses rained on the people below.
Looking around him, he saw no more lizerns infesting the sky. However, there were still some attacking down below. He got rid of the wind carrying him and fell down.
As soon as he landed, numerous earth spikes rose from the ground and simultaneously pierced the lizerns through their acid sacs. The lizerns dropped all at once.
Noele approached the dumbfounded Felum. With every step he took, a spike rose up from the ground and took a lizern's life.
"Wha- wha...?"
"What's up, fellow Elementalist?" Noele smirked.
"But, how...? And why are you so awesome?"
"I don't know either. It came out of nowhere..." Noele tried to recall what had happened right before he gained this power. "Hmm, the only trigger I can think of is Megna. When she pulled my hand, I suddenly felt full of mana."
"Megna? Your neighbor that wears glasses?" Felum creased his brows. He could still remember her feeding Felum the Mana Suppressing Pill secretly.
'Come to think of it, Noele is unfathomably powerful, despite having wielded elements for like, what, a few minutes at most... Maybe Megna was telling the truth? Noele's father wanted to keep this under wraps?'
Felum fell into deep contemplation.
Noele shrugged as he examined his surroundings. The lizerns' number was wearing thin.
He decided to leave the rest to the teachers. Raising an earthen chair, he sat down, intending to test out his newfound powers.
Out of his palm, a small wisp of flame appeared.
'...Holy crap, this is so cool!'
Replaying the battle in his mind, he couldn't help but grin. 'The way I flew through the skies, slicing the enemies with freaking water!! I feel so awesome right now!'
Even though the situation had calmed down, the beating in his heart hadn't yet. Adrenaline still continued to flow through his veins.
There was one word on his mind right now--fight.
Fight. Fight. Fight! I wanna fight someone!!
Megna and Vinny arrived at the bottom of the stairway, panting.
Vinny rushed towards Carra and Felly, while Megna adjusted her glasses as she looked for Noele.
Noele was grinning to himself as he looked at all of the elements he could control right now. Visible inside his eyes was a dangerous flame that could not be controlled.
When Megna saw that visage of Noele, she started to hyperventilate. Her vision kept flashing between now, and the future she was from.
The image of Noele in the future... coincided with that of him now.
She crashed down on her knees onto the scorched grass, sweating profusely.
"N-Noele, no! No!"
She clenched her chest, finding it harder to breathe. Was it all worthless? Was he fated to become like that, from the start?
At the back of her mind, Megna thought that she could stop hiding from Noele the fact that he had insane talent.
'Maybe,' she thought, 'I can stop feeding him those pills. Maybe, after so many years of not wielding any power, his personality would be different than that of the him that I fear.'
However, it was evident to her now that that was not the case. The crazy, battle-hungry self of his did not disappear—it was simply only suppressed along with his talent.
Megna's grip on the water tumbler tightened as she got a grip of herself. She couldn't have a panic attack right here, right now.
She stood up and stabilized herself, bringing the water to Noele.
Noele was busy manipulating the elements inside his palm.
He made a humanoid figure made out of fire. It walked around on his palm stiffly.
Using his other hand, he drizzled the flameman with a little bit of water.
"'Stop,' he says. 'I'm gonna die-bleurgh!'"
The gentle spray of water abruptly turned into a high pressure jet that targeted the flameman accurately. Before long, the flameman had been extinguished completely, leaving behind only smoke.
Noele chuckled. 'This is really fun! I can't believe everyone aside from me had the ability to do this for so long!'
He stopped playing with elements like dolls when he felt someone's presence approaching him from the side.
'A schoolmate... I doubt he knows who I am, but...'
As the student passed by Noele, he started to sweat thinking of what would happen if word were to spread of him playing doll with the elements.
"Noele? Playing doll?" "What a kid!" "Hahahaha!"
'If that ever happens then I could just...'
He looked at the flame in his hands again. The fire seeped through his fingers and around his hand. This small wisp in his hands could probably instill fear in a person or two, or three...
The corner of his lips curled up.
"Yeah, I have no reason to be afraid. Nothing to fear. Not anymore."
Suddenly, someone tapped his shoulder.
"Hm? Megna?"
"You must be parched. Drink some water first."
Noele shrugged. He grabbed the tumbler and chugged the water inside. Soon enough, not a single drop was left.
"Ah, that hit the spot. I really was thirsty, huh. Thanks!"
Megna flashed an awkward smile.
"Oh, right, did you see me? Were you watching me and my awesome display? Bah, who am I kidding, you definitely saw that, right?" Noele's eyes sparkled as he excitedly narrated what had just happened.
Megna stayed silent throughout his story.
Suddenly, a low growl echoed from the forest.
The remaining lizerns stopped attacking the teachers. They speedily rushed back inside the forest.
Megna widened her eyes. 'That growl, it's from a Lizarck! What's going on, is it attacking now?'
The Lizarck, king of lizerns. Hidden deep underwater, it would normally never rise from its position since its birth until death. Humans would not know of its existence until 3 years later, when all of the lizerns in a particular forest were exterminated. It was forced to show itself.
That day, almost a million people died.
Since she was locked inside the house, she only knew the facts from a brief news snippet on TV.
After that, Noele had personally hunted down 10 of these beasts by himself.
Megna could still remember his words when he went home that day.
"These Lizarcks... they're weak and slow. Those people deserved to die for not being able beat such an easy opponent."
