No one's P.O.V
The cool breeze made Sheylia's brown locks dance in the wind as she walked to school. Hands stuffed in her hoodie's pockets listening to her favorite song (Slow Motion by Charlotte Lawrence, my favorite song!) The little stones on the paved sidewalk getting kicked by her Doc Martin's, flinging them somewhere out of sight. She sings,
The colours are fading out
Is it quiet where you're sleeping?
Your records, my empty house
I wish I knew what you were feeling
Suddenly someone pushes her from behind,
"Aahhhh!!" screams Sheylia, she turns around to find her best friend, Mia, who was the culprit of the push, but also realises her brother, Gregory, isn't there with her. Which she thought was weird, as he always walks to school with them.
"Oh it's just you, don't do that you scared the crap out of me!!" glares Sheylia,
"Oh don't be such a baby!" complained Mia while placing her arm around Sheylia's shoulder as they continued on their way to school.
"Umm where is Gregory?" the younger girl asked confused,
"Oh my brother? He is already at school, he left early to work on his and Lyde's project that's due tomorrow," Mia said. Sheylia shuddered by hearing the name Lyde, but responds a second later by making an o shape with her mouth and nodding her head slightly.
After a bit, a comfortable silence found its way between the two girls.
"Hey, did you eat breakfast today?" Mia suddenly asked worriedly, breaking the silence and making the latter jump.
"Yeah..I did, Zoe said I should," Sheylia answered quietly. Mia hummed in response, happy that her friend's sister got her to eat something.
"I didn't want to though, me eating breakfast isn't helping with my weight!" she yelled, now annoyed with Zoe, and herself for listening to her.
"You do know that not eating anything isn't a very healthy way to lose weight you don't have," Mia said looking towards her friend and rubbing her shoulder with her thumb, trying to see if she understands and is listening to what she is saying. But sighing, after getting no response from her friend.
Sheylia knew what she was doing wasn't the right way to lose weight, but it was the only way she could think of doing it because it was easier than working out, in her opinion. And, she has kind of gotten used to the feeling of being hungry, so she doesn't really mind.
After a few more moments of silence they arrived at the high school. Watching all the other students arriving at school and disappearing inside. Once the two girls entered the school they got surrounded by the loud noise of students chatting and laughing amongst themselves, and the sound of squeaking lockers being opened and closed reaching their ears as they walk down the hall, up the stairs to the top floor, and to their lockers.
Their lockers weren't right beside each other, but they weren't too far, with only five people between them.
Once Sheylia puts her backpack into her locker and takes out her gym clothes, she shuts her locker and locks it. As she starts heading down the stairs, someone rubs by her. She quickly spins around ready to apologise when she notices the person who rubbed by her, Lyde, the one person she wishes didn't exist and who is, in fact, her cousin.
You see Sheylia has been scared of Lyde for 3 years now. Ever since she was little she would always go over to her cousin's house, to play and hangout with her favorite cousin, Lara, who is only a year younger than her. But when she turned twelve years old, she noticed something different about Lyde. He had this threatening, dominant aura around him all the time when she was over there. She had also noticed how he would constantly burn holes through her with his dark eyes. Every time she caught him staring, he looked as if he was going to kill her any second, and wouldn't look away even though he got caught staring. When she turned thirteen years old, he started rubbing against her body (particularly her butt) when he would walk by her.
At first she didn't think anything of it, until she noticed one time after he had just walked by and rubbed against her, that there was plenty of room for him to walk and not be so close. Things between them got worse for Sheylia when Lyde and her brothers got closer which led to him coming over all the time, eating dinner, spending the night, and just practically living there. It all made her feel uncomfortable and scared that he would do something worse than staring and rubbing against her someday. She never told anyone about what was going on because she didn't think they would believe her when she would say that he has been doing these things for two years. She was also scared of Lyde getting mad and doing something horrible to her.
The only thing she told was her diary. Everytime something would happen she would write it down; what happened, the time it happened, and how she felt. She always told herself that she would tell her parents or just someone so the harassing would stop, but everytime she would gather up the courage to do it, she would freak out and give up in the end.
Sheylia now deals with anxiety and stress because she is always paranoid and on edge. Being stared at and watched 24/7 doesn't help.
She is terrified of Lyde and his actions but also furious with what he has been doing to her. She is mad at herself for not doing anything about it, and feeling weak and defeated when she lets him get away with it.
She hates feeling like a victim.
