One month later, Bella was moved from the intensive care unit after a month of treatment. Although her condition seemed much more stable, there was no guarantee that she would wake up from the coma.
Mary sat by her daughter's bedside. She had already regretted staying away for most of Bella's life, but now that regret weighed on her even more heavily.
"You should eat something," Shantel said, looking at Mary, who had lost so much weight over the past month.
"I'm not hungry," Mary replied, shaking her head without even glancing at the food Shantel had brought.
Shantel's heart ached too. She had watched Bella grow up, but she put on a brave face, knowing that both mother and daughter needed her support during this time.
