Chapter 9 - Jeshan's Dream

Since the only hobby of Jeshan's that I know of is that he trains often to become an adventurer, I've decided to take him to the only place I could think of that suits that very hobby: the gym. If I watch Jeshan train, not only will I learn what type of adventurer he wants to be exactly, but I'll also learn his training routine as well. Not to mention Jeshan will hopefully actually enjoy himself this time.

I look at Jeshan with a smile on my face. "You're sure to enjoy spending time with me here, right?"

Jeshan looks back at me. "But what about our classes?"

I pause, looking down as I recall what just happened. "...I don't want to go back right now...but I don't want to be alone either... You said you were my bodyguard, so you have to stay with me..." I gently grasp the sleeve of his blazer.

Jeshan pauses as well before responding. "...Alright. If we stay out here then your parents are sure to find us though. News will travel to them fast and they'll be looking for you."

I gasp silently, cupping a hand over my lips. "I hadn't even thought of that..!"

"Don't worry." Jeshan grasps the hand that holds his sleeve, pulling me along for once surprisingly. "I have somewhere they won't find us, somewhere safe too."

"W-Where to?" I ask as he pulls me along, my face somewhat flushed from the shock.

"The spot where I train at, away from any prying eyes." The two of us run quite a bit, going to the edge of town, through the woods, and finally into a cave that lights up upon entry due to several float torches.

I pant a bit as we come to a stop. "Do you train alone so you don't get distracted by anyone?"

"Yeah...kind of." He looks back at me as I catch my breath.

"I can't train in front of you because of the law, but I can show you something." I look back at him and nod, though frown somewhat as he turns his back. I was hoping I'd get to see him train, but I had a feeling that this might happen, considering the rest of my failed attempts. I wish those government officials hadn't added that new law. I know people using their fighting skills in public to show off or fight caused several dozen accidents, but to send someone to jail if they used their abilities when it wasn't absolutely necessary in public is a little harsh in my opinion. On the bright side, at least I know that Jeshan has trained enough to gain a couple fighting skills that are dangerous enough to make him want to follow that law, and that makes me smile.

I watch as Jeshan moves a few rocks off of a strange steel box that's rather thick, and he opens the small box. I can't see what's inside due to his posture, but I can hear him let out a sigh. "Good, they're both still here." He turns to me and shows me what's inside the box, and I gasp at the sight I see. Inside are two beautiful daggers that are the exact same shape and size, but their designs are completely different. Both have crystal blades, one being a bright golden color with a sun shaped gem in the hilt and the other a bright silver color with a crescent moon shaped gem in the hilt. The blades are curved and they look sharp enough to cut through solid steel.

"They're beautiful Jeshan...simply stunning. Where did you get these..?" I keep my voice low on the off chance that someone might be close by and watching us, since it's not like it would be the first time.

"It's a long story, but I'm not showing you these just to show off." Jeshan carefully takes the sun themed blade out of its holster in the box, grabbing the sheath that lays underneath of it and sheathing the blade inside of it, holding it up to me. "I want you to have it."

I stare at him in shock. "W-What..?"

"I want you to have this and use it if you're ever in danger like that again and I'm not there to protect you." Jeshan looks directly into my eyes as he speaks.

"B-But I'm far too afraid just looking at a weapon like this..! Much less holding one and actually using it to fight! I-I...I could never attack someone with that..." I mutter.

"I'm not asking you to use it to hurt someone." He gently takes one of my hands and places the hilt of the dagger in it, gently closing my hand around it afterward. "Just use it for self defense. If I'm ever not around and something bad happens, just scream my name and I'll be right there."

I blush faintly and giggle softly. "We're not children, you don't have to say stuff like that to me Jeshan... How are you gonna hear me scream if you aren't close by?"

"Trust me." He speaks bluntly now. "If you scream for me, I will come right to your side. That's what a bodyguard is supposed to do, right?"

Once again, he makes my heart feel warm as he promises me that, and I think to myself, "Is it some kind of skill he has..? Something that'll tell him when I'm in danger or screaming for him..?" Either way, I trust Jeshan's words. The image of him saving me this morning flashes through my mind, and I smile. "Okay... I trust you Jeshan." I grip the dagger in my hand and hold it close to my heart. "You'd better come save me if I scream, you hear me?"

Jeshan nods, not taking his eyes off of me. "I will. I promise."

I giggle and stand up. "Then let's go buy some kind of strap for this and head home before my parents have the entire police force looking for me." Jeshan nods and closes the steel box, putting it back into its hiding place before standing up.
